Description (EN):

The 3DCENTRAL project aims at connecting “islands of innovation” to a stable network of regions for innovation. It´s focused on smart engineering & rapid prototyping where a substantial, current & future emerging market for CE cooperation partners is visible. Generally there is solid knowledge base in the CE area, but less structured and less connected. This leads to some inefficiencies in developing regions, RTD and business sector. To tackle these challenges, to transform and improve this situation consequent, durable solutions with sufficient resources are required. Therefore the main objective is to develop, implement and anchor powerful, practicable, future robust Knowledge Axes for the CENTRAL Europe (KACE) cooperation area to tighten and boost the linkages and capacities amongst the relevant technology & innovation actors of smart engineering & rapid prototyping. 3DCENTRAL fosters a change to the current situation by establishing and anchoring a practicable, user-friendly, replicable and future robust system of new strong structures (KACE), repeatable processes (CE Brain Base) and leading edge implementation cases (CE flagships). The respective main outputs are a transnational, action-oriented system for 11 CE relevant knowledge axis, the toolbox & transnational Tech&Inno Camps to make the change elements stable, 11 CE flagship pilot demo cases. The project group, the involved partners (RTD, companies, Stakeholders) and regions benefit directly from the outputs. The innovative character of the approach is demonstrated & highlighted by the concerted, replicable, anchored setting of the methodologies, tools and instruments which is unique for the addressed fields of technologies as well as for the participating regions. The main structures, processes and outputs are all transnationally oriented. 3DCENTRAL unites highly competent partners with strong networks & capitalisation to guarantee appropriate “money for value”.

Achievements (EN):

3DCentral brings together Project Partners who represent technology hubs and expertise across Central Europe. All of these partners have an extensive network of organisations as companies, clusters, research institutions, who carry knowledge and expertise related to smart engineering and rapid prototyping. All the good practices and associated lessons learnt are derived from real-life examples to which the project partners have been exposed. This ultimately means that they have good access to the organisations involved in the good practice and can more easily facilitate cooperation and the competence enhancement that makes up a key output of this project. The methodology behind is composed of two major steps: 1st step – identification of Smart engineering & rapid prototyping solutions offered by SMEs and research institutions in each region 2nd step – out of identified regional solution providers Good Practices and lessons learnt were selected and described by each partner A diversity of different practices related to smart engineering & rapid prototyping in different technologies and cross sectors – from development of smart services to the optimization of entire production processes – led to identification of 11 specialized topics which served as a base for a road-map and action plans development. Action plans are representing the solid ground for joint activities as R&D projects which present the basis for capitalization, trainings in the format of Moodle platform and strategic actions in format of workshops with key stakeholders. Most important achievement of the partnership is that we managed to demonstrate cross-sectoral characteristic. It shows that advanced manufacturing techniques such as smart engineering and rapid prototyping, are relevant and currently in practice across different aspects of Central Europe’s value-chain. It also shows that techniques can be applied across sectors; something that emerges in the municipal transportation sector, could be viable in the industrial engineering sector; and something that is viable in the textile industry, could be applied in the medical sector. Idea behind the concept was to identify possibilities which could be transferred via pilot actions and in later stages as follow up project. The take-aways from mobility actions, events and pilot actions could be summarised: We can not talk about the digital business optimisation anymore, we should discuss digital business transformation: product and services and new business models. Thus, also financing on the level of SMEs are shifting towards investing more into innovation. Following lessons learned, a total of 11 flagship projects and 22 Transfer and Cooperation Actions were initiated during the project duration and realized beyond the end of the project. The flagship projects and transfer and cooperation actions directly serve the overall project goal to connect islands of innovation related to smart engineering and rapid prototyping in Central Europe and are briefly described below. Expected Results (EN): R 1.1 Status of linkages among actors of the innovation systems achieved through transnational cooperation in central European regions.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The project´s main results are all gained by a high potential partner net and well embedded in a stakeholders´ environment to assure a deep as well as a long-term impact / change to the initial situation. Thus 3DCENTRAL aims at the following results: R1: Increased cooperation potential between research, technology and market partners, public institutions to face the challenge of innovative, stable & durable transnational knowledge axes. R2: Optimised transfer structure and processes of RTD results and knowledge to the involved and addressed companies within smart engineering / rapid prototyping. R3: Increased skills and services for managing innovation at the interfaces of cross-sectoral technology cooperation and transnational business performance. R4: Improved qualitative as well quantitative push of transfer potentials for pilot demo projects and transfer projects both including relevant stakeholders´ net (regional, national, Europe) and further interested partner organisations / regions in CE cooperation area. These results are derived by the following outputs (see WPs): R1:O1, O2, O5, O6, O7; R2: all outputs; R3: O3, O4; R4: all outputs.
