Project - Connecting VSE-SMEs to high potential maritime markets

Description

Description (EN): Port areas are large experimental laboratories in the heart of densely populated urban areas. They combine a solid base of industrial and tertiary activities, as well as environmental, social, technological and economic challenges, and they therefore enable VSE-SMEs [Very Small Enterprises – Small and Medium Enterprises] to identify markets. The ports of the future are the real drivers of recovery for a sustainable economy for the territories. In the future, the challenges related to new uses, the new environmental and societal requirements, and to technological innovations will enable VSE-SMEs to invest in rapidly growing new markets. Among the sectors of port activities, three seem to currently sustain the growth of the ports and their VSE-SMEs: - Plaisance and Yachting: the area recognises many tourism ports for over 150,000 routes, dozens of shipbuilders, hundreds of contractors, that is tens of thousands of direct jobs; - Logistics: logistics includes the activities of transporting goods, storage, maintenance, packaging and various associated services. 20,000 to 30,000 jobs are directly linked to logistics; - Cruise ship and Ferry ports: twenty ports host ferries and cruise ships, that is tens of millions of passengers per year and tens of millions of euros of economic benefits for the companies in the territory. BlueConnect proposes to list, in an observatory, the socio-economic data on the port activities of Var, the Maritime Alps, Corsica, Sardinia, Liguria and Tuscany, to use this data from the observatory to build a cross-border network of players in the territory’s economic development, and tackle the issues facing the growth of existing companies (VSE-SMEs).
