Site historique de la Première Guerre mondiale, le Hartmannswillerkopf est aujourd’hui constitué d’un mémorial, d’une nécropole et des vestiges du champ de bataille. Afin de compléter ces éléments, ce projet prévoit la création d’un historial qui présentera au public l'histoire des batailles qui ont eu lieu sur l'ensemble du front des Vosges mais offrira également les clés de compréhension du contexte de la Grande Guerre et les traces qu’elle a laissées dans la région transfrontalière du Rhin supérieur. Le projet, révélateur du dynamisme du tourisme de mémoire dans la région, devrait permettre l’accueil d’un plus grand nombre de visiteurs sur le site mais également participer plus largement à la sensibilisation des citoyens, et en particulier du jeune public, à l’importance de la région dans l’histoire et contribuer ainsi à leur identification au Rhin supérieur.

The First World War historical site at Hartmannswillerkopf currently consists of a memorial, a cemetery and traces of the battlefield. In order to complement these features, this project plans to create a memorial museum of the history of the battles that took place along the Vosges front. In addition, it will explain the context of the Great War and its lingering effects on the Upper Rhine cross-border region. The project, which reveals the dynamic nature of remembrance tourism in the region, ought to attract more visitors to the site and play a greater role in raising public awareness of the region’s historical importance, particularly among young people, thereby contributing to their identification with the Upper Rhine region.

Am Hartmannsweilerkopf, einem der bedeutendsten historischen Schauplätze des Ersten Weltkriegs, können heute bereits eine kleine Gedenkstätte, die Nekropole sowie Relikte des Schlachtfelds besichtigt werden. Mithilfe dieses Projektes sollen diese Einrichtungen um ein sogenannten „Historial“ ergänzt werden, das dem Publikum die Geschichte der Schlachten in den Vogesen anschaulich vermittelt und damit ein besseres Verständnis für die Umstände des Ersten Weltkriegs und seine Folgen für die grenzüberschreitende Region am Oberrhein ermöglicht. Das Projekt, das auch von der Dynamik des Gedenktourismus in der Region zeugt, soll dazu beitragen, die Besucherzahlen an diesem Standort weiter zu steigern und gleichzeitig bei den Bürgerinnen und Bürgern, und insbesondere den junge Menschen, das Bewusstsein für die gemeinsame regionale Geschichte zu wach zu halten.
