Description (EN): This Project is jointly developed by the partners from Lithuania - Šiauliai region and Latvia - Kurzeme region. Communities in these regions are facing serious challenges of intensive depopulation, lack of employment, possibilities, skills, knowledge, deficient infrastructure and services. Therefore, this project is tackling such problems and is primarily designed to improve the living conditions of the targeted deprived communities in the regions.
Specifically, they main output of the Project is to create the cross-border network of the healthy lifestyle and basketball enthusiasts through the regular Venta River Basketball Tournaments and networking activities. Such experience sharing and sports activities will empower members of the selected six deprived communities in Lithuania and Latvia to participate more actively in the processes affecting their daily social life, and will build commitment and confidence in tackling their problems.
The communities participating in the project are located in the districts of Akmene, Lithuania and Saldus, Latvia that are bordering each other, and both having the same river Venta running through them. This symbolic natural connection will be used to facilitate broader knowledge exchange and cooperation initiatives in the field of healthy lifestyle and sports. There was very little cooperation in the area of sports and healthy lifestyle among these particular districts and communities over the years and the game of basketball - well admired and played in both countries - will become a new catalytic factor of bringing them closer.
Read more Description (LV): Šis projekts ir kopīgi izstrādāta ar partneriem no Lietuvas – Telšu reģions un Latvijā - Kurzemes reģionā. Kopienas šajos reģionos saskaras ar nopietnām problēmām saistībā ar pieaugošo emigrāciju, darba iespējām, prasmju un zināšanu trūkumu, nepietiekamu infrastruktūru un pakalpojumiem. Tāpēc šī projekta mērķis ir risināt šīs problēmas, kas saistītas galvenokārt ar dzīves apstākļu uzlabošanu attiecīgajos nabadzīgajos reģionos.
Konkrētais mērķis šajā projektā ir izveidot starptautisku basketbola entuziastu kopu ar veselīgu dzīvesveidu kas ar basketbola turnīru un sadarbības pasākumu palīdzību apvienotu Ventas upes reģionu. Šī pieredze un sporta aktivitātes ļaus sešām nabadzīgajām kopienām Latvijā un Lietuvā aktīvāk iesaistīties ietekmējot procesus ikdienas sociālajā dzīvē un sniegt daudz lielāku apņēmību un pārliecību par savu problēmu risināšanu.
Kopienām, kas piedalās projektā ir Akmenes rajons, Lietuvā un Saldus novads, Latvijā, kas ir blakus viens otram kuriem cauri plūst Ventas upe. Šis simboliskais dabas savienojums tiks izmantots, lai veicinātu plašāku sadarbību un dalīšanos zināšanās par veselīgu dzīvesveidu un sportu. Pēdējos gados ir bijusi maza sadarbība starp šiem reģioniem īpaši veselīga dzīvesveida un sporta jomā, jo īpaši basketbolā – spēlē kas patīk un ir populārākā abās valstīs, kas kļūs par jaunu stimulu, kas var radīt lielāku tuvināšanos.
Read more Achievements (EN): During the project local residents gained basic knowledge in sports and healthy lifestyle. In total 144 training sessions in Saldus, Kalni and Zirņi (Latvia) were implemented. Project started with seminars on healthy eating and physical trainings presented by Ms. Vineta Ikauniece – Ozoliņa. Coach Edgars Buiķis implemented very interesting and highly popular training sessions.
A regional basketball tournament was implemented in Saldus in two age groups (2005 and expert (no age limit group)) – two teams from Latvia and two teams from Lithuania took part in this tournament.
The main event of the project – Venta River basketball tournament was successfully launched on 16th-17th of December, 2017 in Saldus, Latvia. A total of 10 teams in two age groups (2005 and expert (no age limit group)) participated in the tournament: 5 teams in each group. First big collaborating stage was done in city. All 3 project communities from Latvia: Saldus, Kalni and Zirņi) and two teams from Lithuania: Papile and Venta took part.
The tournament itself took place from February to April, 2018. Seven teams from Lithuania and Latvia took a part in championship. Tournament turned out very well organised and collaboration between both country basketball players was taken to the next level.
During summer 2018, 2×2 summer basketball tournament in age group 2004 and younger boys and girls took place. Three stages were implemented in three weeks. On 29th and 30th of September, 2018 Venta Basketball mini-tournament in two age groups was implemented.
Friendly tournament in Telšiai with Lithuanian partners U13 group was organized in preparation for Venta Basketball League (VBL) final games. 5 day training sessions in Telšiai were organised, including basketball tournament with U13 Lithuanian boys’ teams.
Four Venta Basketbal League Summer Outdoors Tournament “Street Basket Saldus 2019” stages were implemented in 4 weeks. The biggest VBL outdoor 3 x 3 tournament took place on 29th of June, 2019. Attended by approx. 100 players and more than 200 spectators in Latvia, it proved very successful event. Venta River pre-season tournament on 7th and 8th of September, 2019 in two age groups 2003 (U-17 boys) and PRO (No Age limit men) was held in
During the project basketball uniforms and basketballs for each of the 3 communities in Latvia were purchased. Automated basketball shooting machine and high-quality scoring board was purchased for Saldus Sports Hall for the improved trainings of the community teams.
