Ostslowenien und die südliche Steiermark sind sich in vielen natürlichen Gegebenheiten, wie z. B. in der Geologie, in der Bodenzusammensetzung und in den klimatischen Verhältnissen, sehr ähnlich. Dies führte zu ähnlichen historischen Entwicklungen in der Versorgung mit Nahrungsmitteln und damit in der gesellschaftlichen und kulturellen Entfaltung der Region, die sich auch im reichen archäologischen Erbe manifestiert. Die Nahrungsmittelproduktion im Programmgebiet dient heute nicht nur der Versorgung der Bevölkerung, sondern ist ein wesentlicher Teil des Tourismus und muss gegen zwei große Herausforderungen ankämpfen: eine intensive landwirtschaftliche Produktion, durch die die Produktion von traditionellen alten Sorten von Nutzpflanzen und die damit verbundene Biodiversität reduziert wurden, und ein übergroßes Angebot an Nahrungsmitteln, das die Entwicklung von unverkennbaren Identitäten von Produkten, die mit der Identität der Region verbunden sind, erschwert. Das Projekt PaleoDiversiStyria versucht neue Erkenntnisse aus der Archäologie und der Archäobotanik im Programmgebiet zu vermitteln, um das Verständnis für das kulturelle Erbe und die landwirtschaftliche Tradition zu fördern. Die Projektpartner haben sich deshalb Schlüsselaktivitäten zum Ziel gesetzt, die Maßnahmen von der Identifizierung ursprünglicher Pflanzen- und Tierarten in archäologischen Kontexten über die Revitalisierung des Anbaus und die Wiedernutzung von autochthonen Kulturpflanzenarten bis zu ihrer Einbindung in das touristische Angebot umfassen. Die Wiedereinführung von alten Kulturpflanzen führt zu einer größeren Biodiversität und ermöglicht es den lokalen Produzenten, neue und für den Tourismus attraktive Produkte anzubieten, die ihre Identität aus dem lokalen archäologischen Erbe erhalten. Diese Produkte tragen zur Hebung der Bedeutung des Schutzes des archäologischen Erbes bei, indem es zum Träger der Identität des touristischen Angebots wird.

Prostora vzhodne Slovenije in južne avstrijske Štajerske sta si, glede na naravne danosti, kot so geološka osnova, sestava tal in klimatski pogoji zelo podobna. To je vodilo k podobnem zgodovinskemu razvoju v zagotavljanju prehranske oskrbe in na ta način tudi do podobnega družbenega in kulturnega razvoja regije, ki se zrcali tudi v bogati arheološki dediščini regije. Proizvodnja prehranskih izdelkov v programskem območju danes ne služi zgolj zagotavljanje oskrbe njenih prebivalcev s hrano, ampak je postala pomemben del turistične ponudbe in se spopada z dvema velikima izzivoma. Prvi, s to temo povezan izziv nastaja zaradi intenzivne kmetijske proizvodnje, s katero se je zmanjšala proizvodnja tradicionalnih starih sort kultiviranih rastlin in z njo povezana biotska raznovrstnost. Drugi izziv je nastal zaradi preobilne ponudbe prehranskih izdelkov, ki otežuje razvoj razpoznavnih identitet izdelkov povezanih z identiteto regije. Projekt PaleoDiversiStyria poskuša posredovati nova arheološka in arheobotanična spoznanja z namenom spodbujanja razumevanja za kulturno dediščino in tradicijo v kmetijstvu. Projektni partnerji so si kot ključne cilje zadali aktivnosti, ki bodo vodile od identificiranja prvobitnih rastlinskih in živalskih vrst na arheoloških najdiščih k revitalizaciji gojenja in uporabe prvobitnih avtohtonih kultiviranih rastlinskih vrst do njihove vključitve v ponudbo programskega območja. Revitalizacija gojenja paleorastlin bo doprinesla k biotski raznovrstnosti kultiviranih rastlin in lokalnim proizvajalcem omogočila ponuditi nove turistične izdelke, ki bodo svojo identiteto gradili na lokalni arheološki dediščini. Ti izdelki bodo doprinesli k dvigu zavedanja o pomenu varstva arheološke dediščine, saj bo le ta postala nosilec identitete turistične ponudbe.

Eastern Slovenia and southern Styria are found in many natural conditions such as in geology, in soil composition and in the climatic conditions very similar. This led to similar historical developments in the food supply, and thus in the social and cultural development of the region, which is also manifested in its rich archaeological heritage. Food production in the program area is today used not only to supply the population, but is an essential part of tourism. The first challenge arises with the intensive agricultural production, which is related to the reduction of the production of traditional old varieties of crops and biodiversity. The second challenge arises from an oversized supply of food, which creates difficulties in the development of distinctive identities of products that are associated with the identity of the region. The PaleoDiversiStyria project tries to connect new knowledge from archaeology and archaeobotany in the program area, to increase the understanding of the cultural heritage and promote the agricultural tradition. The project partners have therefore set themselves key activities, which will lead from the identification of the original plant and animal species in archaeological contexts to the revitalization and utilization of indigenous crop species and their inclusion in tourism. The reintroduction of old crops leads to a greater biodiversity and allows local producers to offer new and attractive tourism products, which will build their identity on the local archaeological heritage. These products contribute to underlining the importance of the protection of the archaeological heritage by being the carrier of the identity of the tourist offers.

Die slowenische und österreichische Steiermark verfügen über ein reiches archäologisches und paläobotanisches Erbe, das zu einem Träger von neuen Ideen und Produkten gemacht werden soll. Dafür werden im Projekt PaleoDiversiStyria mit der archäologischen und archäobotanischen Forschung alte autochthone Kulturpflanzensorten identifiziert, wiederbelebt und in den Tourismus eingeführt. Um die touristische Attraktivität und damit die Gästefrequenz einer Region zu steigern, reicht es heute nicht aus, qualitativ hochwertige Produkte anzubieten, sondern ist es notwendig, die Besonderheiten der Region hervorzuheben und mit glaubwürdigen Aussagen eine Identität dieses Raumes aufzubauen. Den Touristen/innen werden nicht nur neue Produkte angeboten, sondern sie werden auch zum Besuch von archäologischen Fundstellen und Museen ermuntert, die sie sonst vielleicht überhaupt nicht wahrnehmen. Mit diesen zusätzlichen Aktivitäten kann ein verlängerter Aufenthalt im Programmgebiet erreicht werden.

Slovenska in avstrijska Štajerska ima bogato arheološko in paleobotanično dediščino, ki jo je potrebno razviti v nosilca novih idej in izdelkov. S tem namenom bodo v projektu PaleoDiversiStyria z arheološkimi in arheobotaničnimi raziskavami stare avtohtone kultivirane rastline identificirane, obujene in vpeljane v turistično ponudbo. Za povečanje turistične atraktivnosti in s tem obiskanosti neke regije danes ni dovolj zgolj ponuditi kakovostnih izdelkov, ampak je potrebno izpostaviti posebnosti celotne regije in zgraditi identiteto prostora na verodostojnih podatkih. Obiskovalcem in obiskovalkam pa ne bodo zgolj ponujeni novi izdelki, ampak bodo tudi vzpodbujeni k obiskovanju arheoloških najdišč in muzejev, za katere mogoče drugače sploh ne bi izvedeli. S temi dodatnimi aktivnostmi je mogoče doseči podaljšanje obiska v programskem območju.
