Dans l’UE, environ 50% des matières premières sont utilisées dans le secteur de la construction. Ce secteur génère aussi un tiers environ de tous les déchets. Les déchets de déconstruction et de démolition (CDW) sont formés de bétons, briques, tuiles, céramiques… (CBTC) potentiellement recyclables en granulats, du moins si le procédé d’élaboration est adapté. Aujourd’hui, en BE, DE, FR, LU et NL, 70% des CBTC sont réutilisés (sous-valorisés) dans les couches inférieures des chaussées, mais à peine 4% servent à refaire des bétons… Le projet vise à accroître l’utilisation des CBTC pour la production de ciments et de bétons dans le NWE. Il s’intéresse au recyclage des CBTC de bonne qualité pour faire des produits préfabriqués en béton (CPP) et au recyclage des fractions fines de moindre qualité (< 2mm) de CDW pour fabriquer du ciment (CM). Le projet permettra, dix ans après son achèvement, d’utiliser jusquà 13 millions tonnes/an de CBTC dans les CPP et CM du NWE. Les retombées de SeRaMCo seront (a) le développement de technologies permettant d’utiliser des CDW dans la production de ciment et de béton : méthodes de traitement innovantes des CDW et production de ciment avec diverses qualités de sables ; (b) la fabrication industrielle de CPP à base de granulats recyclés, comparables en coûts et qualité aux produits conventionnels. Les produits seront éprouvés dans les 3 régions pilotes : villes de Seraing (BE) et de Saarlouis (DE), région lorraine/Moselle (FR). Avec la fin du projet, les CPP pourront être commercialisés dans le NWE. Afin d’accroître la demande et l’utilisation de ces produits, un circuit d’approvisionnement et une base de données des producteurs de CPP dans le NWE seront établis. Les trois pilotes sont indispensables à la pénétration du marché. En parallèle, l’impact à long terme de SeRaMCo se traduira par un vaste plan de communication et des exemples de réalisation à l’échelle de l’UE.

About 50% of primary raw materials in the EU are used in the building sector, which is also responsible for about 1/3 of all wastes. Within the construction and demolition wastes (CDW), components like concrete, bricks, tiles and ceramics (CBTC) have high potential to be applied as recycled aggregates and sands. However, until now, recycled materials are mostly down-cycled to be used as filling materials in infrastructure projects. Although the recycling quota of CBTC is more than 70% in DE, BE, FR, NL and LU, less than 4% are re-used for the original purpose: concrete production. The project aims to increase the use of CDWs (mainly CBTC) as secondary raw materials for cement and concrete production in NWE. It is necessary to start a high-quality recycling of CBTC, which then enables the re-use of the materials for concrete precast products (CPP). In addition, the project will show how fines (<2mm) from CDW can be used in cement (CM) manufacturing . The project will thus enable, 10 years after its completion, an increased use of up to 13 million tons/y of CBTC’s in NWE’s CPP and CM. SeRaMCos overall outputs will be (a) Technologies enabling the use of recycled material in cement and concrete production: innovative treatment methods for CDWs and new cement production methods using various sands qualities; (b) Industrially produced cement and CPP from recycled aggregates, which will be comparable to conventional products in costs and quality. The products will be implemented in 3 pilot areas: City of Seraing, BE, City of Saarlouis, DE and Region of Moselle, FR. With the end of the project, the products will be ready for commercialisation in NWE. To increase the demand for and the use of these products, a supply chain and a data base of CPP-producers in NWE will be established. The 3 investments are crucial for market penetration. In parallel, SeRaMCo's long term impacts will be sustained with an EU wide roll-out plan and business model.

Etwa 50% der Primärrohstoffe werden in der EU im Bausektor verwendet, der zugleich für 1/3 aller Abfälle verantwortlich ist. Innerhalb der Bauabfälle (CDW) weisen Baustoffe wie Beton, Mauerwerk, Dachziegel und Keramik (CBTC) ein hohes Potenzial zur Wiederverwendung als rezyklierte Gesteinskörnungen (RA) and Sanden (RS) auf. Bis heute werden solche Stoffe überwiegend per Downcycling als Verfüllmaterialien im Tiefbau verwendet. Obwohl 70% CBTC in DE, BE, FR, NL und LU wiederverwendet werden, werden nur 4% im Sinne der Kreislaufwirtschaft der eigentlichen Betonherstellung zugeführt. Das Projekt zielt darauf, denjenigen Anteil, der wieder für die Zement- und Betonherstellung genutzt wird, in NWE deutlich zu erhöhen. Hierfür sind Prozesse zur hochwertigen Aufbereitung zu nutzen, die dann eine Verwendung vor allem in Fertigprodukte (CPP) sinnvoll und wirtschaftlich werden lassen. Zusätzlich soll das Projekt Möglichkeiten zur Verwendung von RA in der Zementherstellung (CM) aufzeigen. Es wird angestrebt, 10 Jahre nach Projektende einen Anstieg von in echter Kreislaufwirtschaft genutzter Wiederverwertung von CBTC auf jährlich 13 Mio. to. zu erreichen. Im Mittelpunkt von SeRaMCo stehen: a)Techniken, die eine Verwendung von recycelten Materialien in CM und CPP erleichtern; innovative Aufbereitungsverfahren und Zementproduktion unter Verwendung von RS; b)Industrielle Herstellung von wettbewerbsfähigen CM und CPP mit hohem Anteil an RA und RS. Die Produkte sollen bei 3 Pilotprojekten in City of Seraing (BE), City of Saarlouis (DE) und in der Moselregion (FR) eingesetzt werden. Die damit verbundenen Investitionen sind unverzichtbar. Bei Projektende sollen die entwickelten Produkte in NWE marktfähig sein. Um die Nachfrage zu steigern, soll eine Lieferkette und eine Datenbank mit dem spezifischen Angebot der CPP-Hersteller aufgebaut werden. Weiterhin soll die langfristige Wirkung von SeRaMCo mithilfe eines EU-weiten Businessplans sichergestellt werden.

Expected Outputs (EN): The use of recycled aggregates (RA) from construction and demolition wastes (concrete, bricks, tiles, ceramics) for concrete production is low: ca. 3 million tons in NWE and 0 ton of recycled sand (RS) used for cement production. The use of natural resources is high.
