Common problem: The development and production of high-tech components, both in the industrial and medical sectors, requires high standards with regard to the product quality. In many fields (e.g. in aerospace companies), the non-destructive testing (NDT) of components using micro computed tomography (XCT) is an important task. However, the demands on NDT methods are growing due to increasingly complex material combinations, which is why new multi-disciplinary NDT approaches must be developed. Project objective and targeted changes: The XCT systems in the Com3d-XCT project (FHW & ÚTAM AV ČR, CET) are state-of-the-art X-ray imaging systems, whose configuration is unique worldwide. The primary objective is the establishment of a research network for the combined analysis of samples with both systems. In comparison to the well-established methods, the combined approach provides a multiplicity of three-dimensional information. The strengthening of regional R&D capacities and the establishment of a cross-border competence centre is being pursued in order to become a leading authority throughout Europe in NDT, using XCT. Core outputs and profiteers The added value for the regions involved is the creation of an XCT Competence Centre in Upper Austria & Kraj Vysocina. By bundling the XCT and NDT expertise, we will keep pace with developments in materials science. FHW is already a leading Austrian institution in the area of NDT. The cross-border access to the XCT infrastructure in Telč will enable this position to be expanded. The CET also benefits from access to the Talbot-Lau interferometer XCT in Wels and a large network of research and corporate partners in Austria and Europe. This will enable new research projects to be acquired and the sustainability of the research network to be ensured. Overall approach and necessity: Since the two XCT systems can only be found in their respective regions, a cross-border approach is indispensable. Only through unimpeded access to the respective devices, can the samples be scanned with both devices to extract the maximum information content. By means of close cooperation, new evaluation methods can also be developed, which are specifically geared to the combination of the data. Above all, the transnational mobility of students, in addition to qualified staff, should help to mutually stimulate the respective ideas and approaches. Innovation content: The combined, multimodal examination of samples with the state-of-the-art XCT systems in Wels and Telč allows the processing of previously unanswered questions in NDT. This applies, for example, for fiber-reinforced plastics, bone replacement materials and natural building materials.

Společný problém: Výroba high-tech prvků klade vysoké požadavky na kvalitu produkce, vycházející z důkladného materiálového výzkumu. V mnoha odvětvích, např. v leteckém, automobilovém, medicínském či stavebním průmyslu, je proto důležitým úkolem nedestruktivní testování (NDT) dílů, využívající počítačovou mikrotomografii (XCT). Stále komplexnější kombinace materiálů znamenají zvyšující se nároky na NDT metody, a proto je nutné vyvíjet nové, multidisciplinární přístupy v NDT. Cíl projektu a očekávané změny, kterých má být dosaženo: Systémy XCT v projektu Com3d-XCT (FHW a ÚTAM AV ČR, CET - dále jen CET) patří mezi nejmodernější rentgenové zobrazovací systémy, ve svých konfiguracích světově unikátní. Primárním cílem je vytvoření výzkumné sítě, dovolující kombinovaný výzkum komplexních vzorků oběma systémy. V porovnání se stávajícími metodami takový přístup poskytuje mnohem úplnější prostorové informace. Bude usilováno o posílení regionálních kapacit výzkumu a vývoje a etablování přeshraničního regionu jako vůdčí evropské instance pro NDT založeném na XCT. Hlavní výstupy projektu a pro koho budou přínosné: Přidaná hodnota pro zúčastněné regiony spočívá ve vzniku NDT centra kompetence Horní Rakousko & Kraj Vysočina. Spojení odborných znalostí z oblastí XCT a NDT umožní udržet krok se špičkovým vývojem v oblasti materiálových věd. FHW je již nyní vůdčí rakouskou institucí v oblasti NDT. Prostřednictvím přeshraničního přístupu do CET k Dual Source XCT systémům a k znalostem s vývojem XCT detektorů může být tato pozice ještě rozvinuta. CET bude profitovat z přístupu k Talbot-Lau mřížkovému interferometrickému XCT a ze zapojení do velké sítě výzkumných a průmyslových partnerů z Rakouska i Evropy. Tak mohou být získáni noví zákazníci a nové výzkumné projekty, čímž je zajištěn následný udržitelný rozvoj. Způsob řešení a nutnost přeshraničního přístupu: Jelikož se každý z obou unikátních XCT systémů nachází pouze ve svém regionu, je přeshraniční přístup nevyhnutelný. Jenom za předpokladu bezproblémového vzájemného přístupu k oběma zařízením mohou být vzorky skenovány na obou zařízeních, čímž lze vytěžit maximum informací. Díky úzké kooperaci mají být kromě toho vyvinuty nové softwarové metody, zaměřené především na vyhodnocování kombinovaných, multimodálních dat. Především přeshraniční mobilita studentů a kvalifikovaného personálu má přispět k tomu, aby jednotlivé myšlenky a přístupy vedly ke vzájemnému obohacení. Inovativní obsah projektu: Kombinované, multimodální zkoumání vzorků vysoce moderními XCT-systémy ve Welsu a v Telči dovolí pracovat na dosud nezodpovězených otázkách v oblasti NDT. To platí například pro vlákny zpevňované plasty, materiály pro kostní náhrady nebo přírodní stavební materiály.

Gemeinsames Problem: Die Entwicklung und Produktion von High-Tech-Komponenten, sowohl im Industrie- als auch im medizinischen Sektor, setzt hohe Standards in Bezug auf die Qualität des Produkts voraus. In vielen Bereichen, z.B. in Luftfahrtunternehmen, ist daher die zerstörungsfreie Prüfung (ZfP) von Bauteilen mittels Mikro-Computertomographie (XCT) eine wichtige Aufgabe. Jedoch wachsen durch immer komplexere Materialkombinationen die Ansprüche an ZfP-Methoden, weshalb neue, multi-disziplinäre ZfP-Ansätze entwickelt werden müssen. Projektziel und angestrebte Veränderungen: Die XCT-Systeme im Projekt Com3d-XCT (FHW & ÚTAM AV ČR, CET) sind hochmoderne Röntgenbildgebungssysteme, die in ihrer Konfiguration weltweit einzigartig sind. Das primäre Ziel ist der Aufbau eines Forschungsnetzwerks zur kombinierten Untersuchung von Proben mit beiden Systemen. Der kombinierte Ansatz liefert dabei im Vergleich zu gängigen Methoden ein Vielfaches an dreidimensionaler Information. Die Stärkung der regionalen F&E-Kapazitäten und die Etablierung eines grenzüberschreitenden Kompetenztentrums wird angestrebt, um eine europaweit führende Instanz in der ZfP mittels XCT zu werden. Kernoutputs und Profiteure: Der Mehrwert für die beteiligten Regionen liegt in der Erschaffung eines XCT-Kompetenzzentrums Oberösterreich & Kraj Vysocina. Durch die Bündelung der XCT- und ZfP-Expertisen soll mit den Entwicklungen in den Materialwissenschaften Schritt gehalten werden. FHW ist bereits eine führende österreichische Institution im Bereich ZfP. Durch den grenzüberschreitenden Zugang zur XCT-Infrastruktur in Telč kann diese Position ausgebaut werden. Das CET profitiert wiederum vom Zugang zum Talbot-Lau-Gitter-Interferometer XCT in Wels und einem großen Netzwerk von Forschungs- und Firmenpartnern in Österreich und Europa. Dadurch können neue Forschungsprojekte akquiriert und die Nachhaltigkeit des Forschungsnetzwerks sichergestellt werden. Herangehensweise und Notwendigkeit: Da die beiden XCT-Systeme in ihrer Art so nur in der jeweiligen Region zu finden sind, ist ein grenzüberschreitender Ansatz unumgänglich. Nur durch den ungehinderten Zugang zum jeweiligen Gerät können die Proben mit beiden Geräten gescannt werden, um den maximalen Informationsgehalt zu extrahieren. Durch eine enge Kooperation können außerdem neue Auswertemethoden entwickelt werden, die speziell auf die Kombination der Daten ausgerichtet ist. Vor allem soll die grenzüberschreitende Mobilität von Studierenden, zusätzlich zu qualifiziertem Personal, dazu beitragen, dass sich die jeweiligen Ideen und Lösungsansätze gegenseitig befruchten. Innovationsgehalt: Die kombinierte, multimodale Untersuchung von Proben mit den hochmodernen XCT-Systemen in Wels und Telč erlaubt die Bearbeitung von bisher unbeantworteten Fragestellungen in der ZfP. Dies gilt z.B. für Faser-verstärkte Kunststoffe, Knochenersatzmaterialien und natürliche Baustoffe.

Prostřednictvím přeshraniční spolupráce, výměny studentů a pracovníků a společné nadregionální diseminační strategie (např. workshopů) budou podstatně zvýšeny přeshraniční aktivity, dojde k transferu Know-How a bude posílena vědecká spolupráce . Spojením know-how z oblasti XCT a NDT a díky společnému zaměření na základní výzkum může být dosaženo zvýšení vědeckého významu díky publikacím a diseminaci výsledků. Přitom je zohledněno zaměření H2020 ve vztahu k excelentnímu výzkumu, jelikož výsledky získané z projektu Com3d-XCT budou publikovány ve vysoce významných odborných časopisech. To povede ke zviditelnění zúčastněných partnerů a asociovaných strategických partnerů. Oba faktory, excelence a diseminace výsledků, posílí přeshraniční výzkumný prostor Horní Rakousy – Kraj Vysočina.

Expected Outputs (DE):

Durch den länderübergreifenden Ansatz, den Austausch von Studenten und Mitarbeitern und einer gemeinsamen überregionalen Disseminationsstrategie (z.B. Workshop) werden grenzübergreifende Aktivitäten signifikant erhöht, Know-How transferiert und die Zusammenarbeit während der wissenschaftlichen Studien forciert. Durch die Bündelung der XCT- und ZfP-Expertisen und den gemeinsamen Fokus auf Grundlagenforschung kann eine Erhöhung der Forschungsquote durch die wissenschaftliche Publikation und Dissemination der Ergebnisse erreicht werden. Dabei soll der H2020-Fokus in Bezug auf die Exzellenzforschung berücksichtigt werden, indem Ergebnisse, die durch Com3d-XCT generiert werden, in Fachjournalen mit hohem Journal Ranking publiziert werden. Dies erhöht die Sichtbarkeit der teilnehmenden Projektpartner und der assoziierten strategischen Partner. Beide Faktoren, Exzellenz und Dissemination der Ergebnisse, stärken den grenzüberschreitenden Forschungsraum Oberösterreich & Kraj Vysočina.
