The aim of our project is to create the first and in Europe the only cross-border bicycle-sharing system. In the programme area (in the Slovak-Hungarian border-region) will be realized a new public transport service. This will contribute to a better accessibility and improves the level of social interconnectivity. In the year of 2001 was opened the Maria Valeria Bridge between the Slovakian Štúrovo and the Hungarian Esztergom with the support of the European Union. For these 15 years owing to the bridge has explosively grown the accessibility of these two, until then closed cross-border regions: thousands of people commute between their workplaces and homes, hundreds of students attend their schools across the border. The majority of inha bitants do their shopping and their free time activities on the other side of the river. The local people and the tourists actually can cross the border by their own bicycles, cars or by bus. The aim of our project is to create a new public service – bicycle-sharing system -, which will better connect the inhabitants of the cross-border region and the tourist, who will come to Štúrovo or Esztergom. Owing to our new service, more people will cross the border for free and also helps to decrease t he pollution. In the project there will be established bicycle stations on many places of both towns. From these stations both traditional and electronic bicycles will be able to be borrowed. Thanks to the common development of the system, people w ill be able to borrow from all the stations and also return these bicycles to whichever station. The stations will be established near all the important urban functions (offices, transport systems). The system will serve mainly the local people (work ers, students, elderly people), who cross the border regularly - daily.

Cieľom nášho projektu je vytvorenie prvého a v Európe jediného cezhraničného verejného systému požičovne bicyklov. Na území programu, pozdĺž slovensko-maďarskej hranice, bude uskutočnená jedna nová forma verejnej dopravnej služby, ktorá prispeje k ešte lepšiemu prepojeniu dvoch pohraničných miest a k zlepšeniu úrovne ich vzájomnej sociálnej prepojenosti. V roku 2001 bol odovzdaný do užívania most Márie Valérie medzi slovenským mestom Štúrovo a maďarským mestom Ostrihom, ktorý bol znovu postavený za podpory Európskej Únie. Za uplynulých 15 rokov sa vďaka mostu rapídne zvýšila priechodnosť doposiaľ uzavretých prihraničných oblastí. Denne pendluje niekoľko tisíc ľudí medzi svojím bydliskom a pracoviskom a stovky detí navštevuje školy na druhej strane hranice. Veľká časť obyvateľstva pravidelne uskutočňuje svoje každodenné nákupy alebo voľno-časové aktivity na druhej strane hranice. Tu žijúci ľudia a turisti prichádzajúci do regiónu, môžu prejsť cez most pešo, vlastným bicyklom, osobným automobilom alebo autobusom. Cieľom nášho projektu je vybudovanie jednej novej služby pre verejnosť- systém požičovne bicyklov – ktorá ešte viac spojí obyvateľov žijúcich na oboch stranách hranice a turistov prichádzajúcich do Štúrova a Ostrihomu. Prostredníctvom tejto služby môže ešte viac ľudí prejsť cez hranice bezplatne a súčasne sa zníži aj miera znečistenie prostredia. V rámci projektu budú v oboch mestách na viacerých bodoch vybudované stanice na vypožičanie bicyklov, s ktorých sa okrem klasických bicyklov budú môcť vypožičať aj elektrické bicykle. Vďaka spoločne vyvinutému systému si bude môcť každý vypožičať bicykel s ktorej koľvek stanice a taktiež ho bude môcť do ktorej koľvek stanice vrátiť. Stanice budú umiestnené v blízkosti všetkých dôležitých mestských ustanovizní (úradných, dopravných) oboch miest. Vybudovanie systému a spustenie tejto novej služby bude predovšetkým slúžiť miestnym obyvateľom (pracujúci, žiaci), ktorí pravidelne každodenne prechádzajú cez hranice.

Pályázatunk célja az első és Európában egyetlen határon átnyúló közösségi kerékpárkölcsönző-rendszer kialakítása. A programterületen – a szlovák-magyar határ mentén egy olyan új közösségi közlekedési szolgáltatás fog megvalósulni, amely hozzájárul a két határ menti város még jobb összekötéséhez és a régió áteresztő képességéhez. 2001-ben adták át az Európai Unió támogatásával újjáépített Mária Valéria Hidat a szlovákiai Párkány és a magyarországi Esztergom között. Az elmúlt 15 évben a hídnak köszönhetően robbanásszerűen megnőtt az addig két elzárt határ menti térség átjárhatósága: naponta több ezer ember ingázik lakóhelye és a munkahelye között, több száz gyermek látogatja a határ túloldalán található iskolákat. A lakosok nagy része a napi bevásárlását és a szabadidő aktív eltöltését is rendszeresen a határ másik oldalán intézi. Az itt élő emberek és a régióba érkező turisták jelenleg gyalogosan, saját kerékpárral, személyautóval vagy bérelt autóbusszal kelhetnek át a hídon. Pályázatunk célja egy új közösségi szolgáltatás – kerékpárkölcsönző rendszer – kiépítése, amely még jobban összeköti a határ két oldalán élő lakosokat, a Párkányba és Esztergomba érkező turistákat. Szolgáltatásunkkal még több személy kelhet át a határon ingyenesen és ezzel párhuzamosan csökken a környezetszennyezés is. A pályázat keretében kerékpárkölcsönző állomások lesznek kialakítva több ponton mindkét városban, amelyekből a hagyományos kerékpárokon kívül elektromos kerékpárokat is lehet majd kikölcsönözni. A rendszer közös fejlesztésének köszönhetően bárki bármelyik dokkoló állomáson kikölcsönözheti a kerékpárt és szintén bármelyik állomáson vissza is helyezheti azt. Az állomások mindkét településen minden fontosabb városi funkció (hivatali, közlekedési) közelében ki lesznek alakítva. A rendszer kiépítése és az új szolgáltatás beindítása elsősorban a helyi lakosokat (munkások, diákok, idősebb korosztály) szolgálja majd, akik a határon rendszeresen – napi szinten átjárnak.

Achievements (EN):

The aim of our project was to create a new public service – bicycle-sharing system -, which will better connect the inhabitants of the cross-border region. A new form of public transport has been established along the Slovakian and Hungarian borders in the towns of Štúrovo and Esztergom, which further contributes to the connections of the two border towns and to the improvement of the level of social interconnection. The public bicycle sharing system called “Maria Valéria Bike” was jointly created by the municipalities of Esztergom and Štúrovo in the framework of the Interreg V-A Slovakia-Hungary Cooperation Program. Residents of Štúrovo and Esztergom and tourists are able to rent and use bicycles in the cities from February 1st 2020. The municipalities of Esztergom and Štúrovo also want to encourage residents and tourists to use environmental friendly solutions for their trips in the two cities. Total budget of the project: 921 155 eur. The project is co-financed by the European Union from the European Regional Development Fund and from the state budgets of the Hungarian and Slovak Republic. Following the successful public procurement, the T-Systems Hungary Zrt. with its subcontractor Neuzer Kft. executed the bike sharing system. Within the framework of the project 14 bicycle storage stations were set up in Štúrovo and Esztergom of which, six are located in Štúrovo and eight in Esztergom. The public bicycle sharing system includes 60 conventional and 45 electric bicycles. The common system allows residents of both cities, as well as tourists, to remove the rented bike from any dock and return it to any station. The stations are located near the frequented sites in both cities.
