Description (EN): The project „Creation of the relaxating-developing environment for special needs children from Latvia and Lithuania, for live quality improvement“ has been initiated by Visaginas ‘Verdene” gymnasium in Lithuania and Aleksandrovas boarding school for the disabled of Dagda municipality in Latvia. The main aim of the project is to provide help for disabled children suffering from social deprivation/inferiority/disadvantage by developing their social skills and improving the quality of their life. Both project partners have wide experience of working with disabled children and know that there are still poor conditions for disabled children to develop and realize their creative, artistic and intellectual potential. Therefore the project activities aim to socialize disabled children by art and sport. The project partners intend to share their good experience, design and realize educational programs, look for investment in order to improve the infrastructure and continue the collaboration after the project. Different educational and occupational systems of disabled people in Lithuania and Latvia will offer the opportunity to profit from partners’ valuable experience and methods when creating new programs and teaching aids for the disabled. During the project Visaginas ‘Verdene” gymnasium will equip a classroom for disabled students where the new educational programs of the project will be implemented. The gymnasium will also repair the sports ground where the disabled will be able to exercise and take part in sports events. Aleksandrovas boarding school for the disabled will equip a relaxation space and an educational nature path adapted for use by disabled people. In summer this school will organize summer camps for disabled children from both countries. The main outcome of the project should be the improved quality of life of the disabled (the repaired sports ground, relaxation space and a classroom equipped for the disabled) and a wider range of educational and occupational possibilities (new educational programs and summer camps).
Read more Description (LV): “Relaksējoši-attīstošās vides izveide Latvijas un Lietuvas bērniem ar attīstības traucējumiem, dzīves kvalitātes uzlabošanai” ir Visaginas “Verdenes” ģimnāzijas (Lietuvā) un Dagdas novada Aleksandrovas internātpamatskolas (Latvijā) iniciatīva. Projekta mērķis ir palīdzēt bērniem ar attīstības traucējumiem, kuri cieš no sociālās atstumtības/mazvērtības/trūkuma, attīstot bērnu sociālās prasmes un uzlabojot dzīves kvalitāti. Abiem partneriem ir plaša pieredze darbā ar bērniem ar īpašām vajadzībām, zinot to, ka daudziem bērniem netiek nodrošināti apstākļi, kuros bērns var attīstīt un realizēt kreativitāti, māksliniecisko darbību un intelektuālo potenciālu, projekta aktivitāšu mērķis ir socializēt bērnus ar īpašām vajadzībām, izmantojot mākslu un sportu. Dažāda izglītības un darba sistēma Latvijā un Lietuvā ar bērniem ar īpašām vajadzībām, dos iespēju projekta partneriem iegūt neatsveramu pieredzi, radīt metodes jaunu programmu un mācību līdzekļu veidošanai. Projekta partneri ir iecerējuši dalīties ar savu labo pieredzi, sagatavot un realizēt izglītojošās programmas, ieguldīt līdzekļus infrastruktūras attīstīšanai un turpināt sadarboties arī pēc projekta beigām. Projekta ietvaros Visaginas pilsētas “Verdenes” ģimnāzija ierīkos kabinetu, kurā tiks īstenotas jaunas mācību programmas, kā arī izveidos sporta laukumu, kurā bērni ar īpašām vajadzībām varēs trenēties un rīkot sporta pasākumus. Savukārt Aleksandrovas internātpamatskola ierīkos relaksācijas telpas un relaksējoši-izglītojošo dabas taku, pielāgotu bērniem ar īpašām vajadzībām. Vasarā Aleksandrovas internātpamatskola organizēs nometnes bērniem ar īpašām vajadzībām no Latvijas un Lietuvas. Projekta galvenie rezultāti ir balstīti uz bērnu ar īpašām vajadzībām dzīves kvalitātes uzlabošanu (izveidots sporta laukums, ierīkotas relaksācijas telpas un pielāgots kabinets bērniem ar īpašām vajadzībām) un plašāka mēroga izglītojošo programmu veidošanu, profesionālo iespēju attīstīšanu un sociālās atstumtības mazināšanu (jaunas izglītojošas programmas un vasaras nometnes).
Read more Description (LT): Šiame projekte dalyvauja Lietuvos Visagino miesto „Verdenės“ gimnazija ir Latvijos Aleksandrovo internatinė neįgaliųjų mokykla Dagdos savivaldybėje. Projekto „Poilsio-ugdymo aplinkos kūrimas specialių poreikių vaikams Lietuvoje ir Latvijoje, siekiant gerinti gyvenimo kokybę “ pagrindinis tikslas – teikti pagalbą socialinę atskirtį patiriantiems vaikams su negalia, vystant jų socialinius įgūdžius ir gerinant gyvenimo kokybę.
Projekto partneriai turi ilgametę darbo su neįgaliais vaikais patirtį. Neįgaliesiems vis dar per menkai sudarytos sąlygos lavinti ir panaudoti savo kūrybines, menines ir intelektines galias. Projekto veiklos nukreiptos į neįgaliųjų vaikų socializaciją, pasitelkiant meną ir sportą. Skirtingos neįgaliųjų ugdymo ir užimtumo sistemos Lietuvoje ir Latvijoje suteiks projekto partneriams galimybę pasinaudoti geriausiomis patirtimis bei metodikomis kuriant naujus neįgaliesiems pritaikytus produktus. Projekto metu Visagino „Verdenės“ mokykla įrengs neįgaliesiems pritaikytą klasę, kurioje bus vykdomos projekto metu sukurtos edukacinės programos, adaptuotos neįgaliesiems. Gimnazija suremontuos turimą sporto aikštelę, kurioje neįgalieji galės sportuoti, dalyvauti sporto renginiuose.
Aleksandrovo internatinė neįgaliųjų mokykla įrengs relaksacinį ir druskos kambarį, gamtos pažintinį taką, pritaikytą neįgaliesiems. Vasaros metu šioje mokykloje bus vykdomos neįgaliųjų vasaros užimtumo stovyklos, kuriose dalyvaus neįgalūs vaikai iš abiejų šalių. Pagrindinis projekto rezultatas – pagerinta neįgaliųjų gyvenimo kokybė (sporto aikštelė, relaksacinis ir druskos kambariai, neįgaliesiems pritaikyta edukacinė klasė) ir padidėjusios ugdymo ir užimtumo galimybės (edukacinės programos, vasaros stovyklos).

For Visaginas “Verdenės” gymnasium: Three non-formal educational-training programs for disabled children „Theatre educational program“, “Ethnocultural educational program” and “Making dolls in folk pedagogy” were created by gymnasium teachers with a help of Latvian colleagues. All programs were pilot tested during project implementation period, the participation in educational-training programs is very useful for disabled children, it helps children to get involved in active life of community more easily, helps to find new friends, socializes and motivates to be more curious about everyday world. During these programs, participants became familiar with the surrounding environment, household, social roles, perceives social life rules and cultural heritage, got to know better their environment, various material specifics, developed their work skills and creativity. As a result, children’s motility skills got better, they got to know and recognize colours, shapes, structures of materials. Participants become more creative, deprived of everyday tasks and routine. Created programs helped disabled children to show their real feeling, worries and thoughts indirectly.
Gymnasium has repaired the sports ground where disabled children and youth could exercise, take part in sports events, summer camps. Repaired sport ground attracts young people and motivate them to exercise, socialize and take part in team activities. During summertime disabled children come to exercise with their parents, during school year -with a help of teachers. Every summer together with NGO “Visagalis” and Visaginas municipality administration we organize sports competition for disabled on the sport ground to promote healthy living and equal opportunity.
Also school has repaired and fully equipped educational-training classroom for disabled students where the new education-training programs of the project are being implemented. New room extended the abilities of the school in providing services for disabled children, because repaired room planned in a modern way with furniture-transformer and all necessary equipment that allow to organize educational process differently but most important comfortably for children. The room is used as for formal as for non-formal educational activities such as movie watching, musical lesson and art lessons.

For Aleksandrava boarding school: Long term employment program “Development of the basics of agricultural skills” was created to develop the basic skills of agricultural works, to develop independent work, social and communicative skills and abilities, correcting mental and physical development disorders, improving the life quality for children with special needs. Program tasks are to create an idea of agricultural work in the summer; to create new and correct incomplete independent work, social and communicative skills and abilities; to teach work culture, mutual assistance, collective work skills; to develop a positive attitude towards work; to develop skills for planning income and expenses; to develop the skills of work product realization.
Natural trail were created and constructed, the nature trail consists of 5 different stages, formed from the different type of road surfaces (sand, wood, grass, bridge, pebbles). The length of the nature trail is 140 m. It provides an opportunity to learn, to recreate, exercise and observe a nature. As educational elements, nature trail convey information about flora and fauna. Children are able to explore different tree species (maple, linden, oak, chestnut, ash tree etc.), also there is an ability to watch the beautiful landscapes, listen to the birds chirping, and explore fishpond and river called “Dzegužupe”. To improve children skill development and socialization, in the end of each section there is various activities – relaxation activities, educational activities and workshops for the children with disabilities. The ending of the nature trail is fireplace, where all the non-formal activities take place. Nature trail offers access for children who use a wheelchair.
Also, relaxation space for disabled children were prepared. Relaxation Space consists of salt room, multisensory room, aggression reducing room, room for workshops and movies. Cosmetic repairs were carried out in the premises – replaced windows, doors, floor, painted walls. The premises are equipped with purchased inventory. Multi-sensory room is equipped with musical water bed, sand therapy equipment, different lights and stereo system for children relaxation after the learning process.

Expected Results (EN): Number of people benefiting from more accessible, efficient social inclusion measures and social services
Expected Outputs (EN): The main results of the project:
* the improved quality of disabled people's life: equipped sports ground, relaxation and salt rooms, educational class adapted for the disabled;
* increased education and employment opportunities; educational programs, summer camps.
The specified number of people will be able to use educational programs and summer camps. Participants will be registered. It is planned to take up 32 disabled children in camps annually, about 80 disabled people will be able to make use of educational programs. Later, these figures are scheduled to increase.
Much greater number of people will make use of educational class adapted for the disabled, sports ground, relaxation and salt rooms. The students of schools providing the project, students from other schools or the members of organizations, individual families with disabled children will also make use of them. The customization of natural cognitive path and sports ground is considerably wider, this infrastructure will be available to the general public.
