Description (EN):

Developing energy strategy in area of renewable sources Republic of Croatia has opened up possibilities for small investments in the construction of small photovoltaic power plants. Monitoring and measuring have proven that sun radiation is a natural potential for production of electricity through photovoltaic modules. Middle annual value of horizontal plane is between 1.2 to 1.3 MWh / m2 radiation. Within this project City of Novi Sad, Town of Belišće and Municipiality of Gorjani want to build photovoltaic systems (six solar power plants and 4km network of public lighting solar) and in that way raise awareness about the importance of ecology through energy efficiency and photovoltaic power plants. Project objectives are: - increasing the energy efficiency of buildings. - efficient use of available technology for producing and storing solar energy. - constant power supply in case of power failure. - reducing total energy cost. - CO2 reduction. - increase competitiveness of companies in Croatian and EU market. Advantages of photovoltaic systems as well as distributed generation of electricity are the following: -resulting in ecological clean electric energy without environmental pollution. - produced energy is consumed in the building, and there is no loss of energy in transmission and distribution. - reliability and safety of supply, and reducing peak loads during the day. -plant maintenance costs are much lower than maintanig centralized production facilities. -location for the installation of photovoltaic systems compared to large centralized production systems are faster and easier to find. - quick and simple installation and commissioning. Joint activities in the promotion of renewable energy sources are: joint competition in electricity generation by setting up e bike and organization of two conferences, SEAP Conference and Renewable source of energy conference.

Achievements (EN):

The R-SOL-E project, short for Renewable Solar Energy, builds on potentials for renewable energy sources in the cross-border area and contributes to increasing energy efficiency of public buildings. The 20-month implementation focused on awareness raising of using solar energy as an eco-friendly way of producing energy and continued to do so during the final event. The closing conference was held in Belišće and attended by representatives of the City of Belišće, Municipality Gorjani, City of Novi Sad and Managing Authority and Joint Secretariat officers. Belišće was chosen for the conference venue due to the city’s long-term commitment to become an energy-independent city. The R-SOL-E project’s aim is to promote use of renewable energy sources, reduce CO₂ emissions and contribute to environment protection. Ultimately, the largest part of promotion was done in order to showcase our investments to its citizens. For example, City of Belišće installed 5 solar plants on 5 public buildings and Municipality Gorjani installed a solar plant on its cultural center. City of Novi Sad installed 100 solar street lamps that are now lighting up children playgrounds and bus stops in suburban areas. With these investments, we achieved 30.000 EUR savings in consumption of electrical energy which would not be possible without co-funding ensured within the project”, concluded Ljerka Vučković, R-SOL-E’s Project Manager and Deputy Mayor of City of Belišće. In addition to infrastructural improvements, partners of R-SOL-E organised a number of activities to educate the local community on using renewable energy sources. One of them was the local competition in producing electricity; an electric bike was installed in Belišće to demonstrate energy efficient and smart solutions in renewable energy sources, attracting children from nearby nursery and elementary schools. In addition, partners installed 3 solar trees used for Wifi and mobile phones charging.

Expected Results (EN): Energy consumption by public buidings in the programme area.

Expected Outputs (EN):

Expected results are: - implementation of 130 kw solar power plants on public buildings in Belišće and Gorjani which will produce more than 150.000 kwh of electric energy from renewable source of energy. - implementation of public lightning (100 energy efficient lamps supplied with energy from solar power plants installed on road crossings) which will promote renewable sources of energy and reduce usage of energy produced by fossil fuels. - development of SEAP document (action plan regarding to energy efficiency) in Novi Sad and Gorjani which will take a part in planing future activities regarding to energy efficiency projects and measures. - upgrade of SEAP document in Belišće according to previous experience and activities (Belišće has already made huge efforts in implementation of SEAP action plan). - development of cadastre of public lighting in Novi Sad. - promotion activities regarding renewable sources of energy which will include items for promotion of energy efficiency awareness (for that reason partners will implement interesting items and organize workshops and competitions). - visibility actions: dissemination of project results, visibility and promotion action in order to promote good neighborly relations across the border between local communities and emphasize the EU's values, financial.
