Description (FR):

Le vieillissement de la population et l’augmentation des patients atteints de déficiences chroniques sont 2 défis auxquels l’UE fait face. Ceux-ci s’accompagnent souvent d’une perte d’autonomie et de liens sociaux. Dans certains cas, l’utilisation d’un Fauteuil Roulant Electrique (FRE) permet de retrouver cette autonomie et une vie sociale (62/10000 utilisateur en FR - 200/10000 au RU). Néanmoins, certains utilisateurs de FRE souffrent de confinement; éprouvent des difficultés à évaluer le FRE; certains soulignent des difficultés pour choisir le FRE le plus approprié à leurs besoins. En réponse à ces difficultés, des études soulignent le rôle clé des Technologies d’Assistance (AT), incluant la Robotique d’Assistance Sociale et des FRE intelligents (JRRD 2008) pour répondre aux besoins de mobilité et d’autonomie des personnes fragilisées pour les ré-inclure dans la vie sociale. Cependant, des obstacles subsistent à l’utilisation de ces innovations (standardisation, interopérabilité, faible implication des utilisateurs finaux, manque de formations des professionnels de santé sur les thématiques des AT, déficit de modèle de financement). Pour dépasser ces obstacles, le partenariat s’appuiera sur une stratégie globale d’innovation, basés sur des développements couvrant l´échelle de TRL 4 à 8 et des formations en AT. Les enjeux de rentabilité et standardisation des produits seront intégrés en amont afin de faciliter la mise sur le marché. Des pre/post questionnaires seront proposés durant le projet pour mesurer la valeur ajoutée des résultats et l’inscrire dans une démarche d’amélioration continue. -1 FRE intelligent et connecté compensant les handicaps des utilisateurs grâce à des technologies d’assistance à la conduite. Le fauteuil monitorera également les paramètres physiologiques du patient et transmettra les informations via internet. Ce système bénéficiera aux utilisateurs confinés et aux professionnels de santé pour le suivi de l’état de santé des patients (CH.#7). -1 simulateur de conduite en réalité virtuelle pour une expérience immersive du FRE intelligent. Cette plateforme permettra aux professionnels de santé d’évaluer la pertinence du dispositif pour différents types de patients et environnements. Elle permettra également une meilleure compréhension des besoins des utilisateurs (CH.#7). -1 package de formation destiné aux professionnels de santé sur les AT. Le simulateur + FRE intelligent seront intégrés aux programmes de formation (CH.#8). -4 accords de partenariat entre des instituts de recherche et des entreprises construits grâce à des événements locaux et internationaux pour créer des synergies, promouvoir et diffuser les résultats du projet (CH.#1,2,3). La valeur ajoutée de ce partenariat multidisciplinaire va au-delà des complémentarités techniques pour embrasser des dimensions réglementaires, culturelles et d’éducation pour construire une collaboration efficace et favoriser l’adoption des AT par le marché.

Description (EN):

Ageing societies and chronic disabilities are irrevocable trends in EU which usually result in a loss of autonomy and a breakdown of social relations. In some cases, the use of Electrical Powered Wheelchair (EPW) is the only way to provide autonomy and improve social inclusion (62/10000 people in FR - 200/10000 in UK). At present many people with complex disabilities face increased isolation due to loss of independent mobility because of difficulties of getting assessed for provision of an EPW and the availability of an appropriate EPW. In response to these trends, studies highlight the key role of innovative Assistive Technologies (AT), including Social Assistive Robotics (SAR) and smart EPW (JRRD 2008), as effective tools to empower disabled and aged people and improve social inclusion. But barriers exist in the uptake of AT (standardization, interoperability, limited involvement of users, lack of specialist training for health professionals and funding models). To overcome these barriers, the project strategy will rely on a framework of innovation including developments from TRL 4 to 8 and training in AT. Cost-effective products and standardization will be a focus in the developments to facilitate the deployment of the solutions to the market. Pre/post trial questionnaires will be used throughout the project to measure the added-value of the following innovative outputs and to continuously improve them to meet stakeholder’s needs. 1) Smart EPW to compensate for user disabilities through driving assistance technologies and report users’ health through connection with internet. This system will benefit severely disabled users and enable health professionals to monitor changes in user health (CH.#7). 2) EPW Simulator platform using virtual reality. This will give the user an immersive experience of the smart EPW and train them to drive in everyday life (CH.#7). Professionals will assess the suitability of the EPW for particular patients and environments and gain understanding from the user perspective. 3) Training of healthcare professionals in AT. This novel training provision addresses a gap in the current healthcare education. Project platforms (EPW simulator + smart EPW) will be captured in training protocols for the benefit of users and healthcare providers (CH.#8). 4) Formalized agreements between research institutions and companies built through 20 events ranging from local to international meetings for promoting and disseminating ADAPT’s results, creating synergies, identifing points ofconvergence for common studies so as to boost R&D and favor the spread of innovative ADAPTs AT to the market (CH.#1,2,3). The cross-border benefit of the proposed multidisciplinary consortium goes beyond the complementary technical skills to embrace the different cultural, regulatory and training environments building a fruitful context of collaboration to achieve greater convergence towards increasing market adoption of these AT.

Achievements (FR):

Développement d’un fauteuil roulant intelligent, d’un simulateur de fauteuil roulant de réalité virtuelle et formation de 15 000 professionnels de la santé pour améliorer l’indépendance de la mobilité parmi 300 000 utilisateurs de fauteuils roulants électriques dans la zone du programme.

Achievements (EN): Developed a smart wheelchair, virtual reality wheelchair simulator and trained 15,000 health professions to improve mobility independence amongst 300,000 electric wheelchair users in the programme area.
