Τα Γεωπάρκα του Ψηλορείτη και της Σητείας στην Κρήτη, της Λέσβου στο Βόρειο Αιγαίο και του Τροόδους στην Κύπρο, αποτελούν μνημεία γεωλογικής κληρονομιάς ενταγμένα στο Δίκτυο των Ευρωπαϊκών Γεωπάρκων και είναι επίσημα αναγνωρισμένα ως γεωπάρκα της UNESCO από το Νοέμβριο του 2015. Η αναγνώριση αυτή εκτός της προστιθέμενης αξίας που τους προσδίδει καταδεικνύει τον πλούτο της γεωλογικής και πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς που διαθέτουν και την ιδιαίτερη σημασία που έχει αυτή η κληρονομιά ως προς την επιστημονική και εκπαιδευτική αξία, την ποιότητα, τη σπανιότητα, σε ευρωπαϊκή και παγκόσμια κλίμακα. Ταυτόχρονα αποτελεί συγκριτικό πλεονέκτημα που αναδεικνύει τις μοναδικές αναπτυξιακές ευκαιρίες και δυνατότητες που ανοίγονται, μέσω της προβολής, προστασίας και αξιοποίησης αυτής της μοναδικής κληρονομιάς και ταυτότητας, για τη βιώσιμη ανάπτυξη των τοπικών κοινοτήτων και την ανάδειξη τους σε γεω-τουριστικούς προορισμούς αριστείας. Στο πλαίσιο της κοινής προσπάθειας για την ικανοποίηση των παραπάνω κοινών στόχων και αναπτυξιακών αναγκών, τα 4 Γεωπάρκα, το Μουσείο Φυσικής Ιστορίας Κρήτης καθώς και το Τμήμα Δασών Κύπρου προχώρησαν στον από κοινού σχεδιασμό του έργου που αποσκοπεί στην υιοθέτηση κοινών προσεγγίσεων μεταξύ των εταίρων, στην υλοποίηση κοινών δράσεων και στην παραγωγή κοινών προίόντων και υπηρεσιών, με κοινό στόχο τη διαφύλαξη και προστασία των φυσικών και πολιτιστικών πόρων και την αξιοποίηση τους για την ανάπτυξη του γεωτουρισμού και την ανάδειξη τους σε γεωτουριστικούς προορισμούς για όλη την διάρκεια του χρόνου. Περιλαμβάνει δράσεις βελτίωσης των υφιστάμενων και δημιουργίας νέων υποδομών, εμπλουτισμού και ανάπτυξης εναλλακτικών δραστηριοτήτων, ευαισθητοποίησης, ενημέρωσης και εκπαίδευσης των κατοίκων και των επιχειρηματιών καθώς και της προβολής τους. Το έργο αναμένεται να έχει πολλαπλά και σημαντικά οφέλη α) για την περιοχή μέσω της αύξησης της αναγνωρισιμότητας, της ελκυστικότητας και επισκεψιμότητας, καθώς και της επιμήκυνσης της τουριστικής περιόδου, β) για τους κατοίκους μέσω της ενίσχυσης της επιχειρηματικότητας, της απασχόλησης και της διαφοροποίηση της τοπικής οικονομίας, και γ) για τους επισκπέπτες μέσω της προσφοράς ποιοτικών προϊόντων και υπηρεσιών.

Description (EN):

The Geoparks of Psiloritis and Sitia in Crete, Lesvos in the North Aegean and Troodos in Cyprus are geological heritage sites that are part of the European Geoparks Network and are officially recognized as a UNESCO Geopark since November 2015. This recognition demonstrates the richness of their geological and cultural heritage and the particular importance of this heritage in terms of scientific and educational value, quality, clutter, on a European and global level. At the same time it is a comparative advantage that highlights the unique development for opportunities and opportunities opened by promoting, protecting and exploiting this unique heritage and identity, for the sustainable development of local communities and their promotion as geo-tourist destinations of excellence. Within the framework of the joint effort to meet the above common goals and development needs, the 4 Geoparks, the Museum of Natural History of Crete and the Cyprus Forestry Department proceeded to the project aiming to common approaches among the partners, joint actions and common products and services, with the common objective of preserving and protecting natural and cultural resources and their exploitation for the development of geotourism and their promotion as geotouristic destinations throughout the year. It includes actions to improve existing infrastructures and create new , enrich and develop alternative activities, awareness and education of residents and entrepreneurs. The project is expected to have multiple and significant benefits a) for the region through increased attractiveness and visibility, as well as the extension of the tourist season b) for the residents through the enhancement of entrepreneurship, employment and diversification local of economy, and (c) for consumers through the supply of quality products and services.

Expected Results (EL):

Βασικό αποτέλεσμα του έργου είναι η μεγέθυνση των δεικτών διάρκειας της τουριστικής περιόδου, των αφίξεων και διανυκτερεύσεων και της διάρκειας παραμονής των επισκεπτών στα Γεωπάρκα. Αυτό επιτυγχάνεται μέσα από την αναβάθμιση, προβολή και εμπλουτισμό του προσφερόμενου γεωτουριστικού προϊόντος, ικανοποιώντας την ολοένα και αυξανόμενη ζήτηση του στις τουριστικές αγορές της Ελλάδας, της Κύπρου και του εξωτερικού. Άλλα αναμενόμενα αποτελέσματα είναι: - Αναγνωρισιμότητα και δημιουργία «ταυτότητας» των Γεωπάρκων, ως προορισμός εγχώριου και εισερχόμενου γεωτουρισμού. - Εμπλουτισμός, αναβάθμιση γεω-τουριστικού προϊόντος και προσφορά ολοκληρωμένων γεωτουριστικών εμπειριών. - Προστασία, ανάδειξη και αξιοποίηση της φυσικής και πολιτιστικής κληρονομιάς των Γεωπάρκων και διατήρηση τους ως αναγνωρισμένα Μνημεία Ευρωπαϊκής και Παγκόσμιας γεωλογικής κληρονομιάς. - Βιώσιμη τοπική ανάπτυξη με υψηλή συνεισφορά στην τοπική οικονομία και επιχειρηματικότητα, προώθηση της ισότητα των δύο φύλων μέσα από την ενίσχυση της γυναικείας επιχειρηματικότητας, βελτίωση της ποιότητας ζωής του τοπικού πληθυσμού και ελκυστικότητας αγροτικών περιοχών ως τόποι κατοικίας και εργασίας. - Περιβαλλοντική εκπαίδευση και ευαισθητοποίηση του τοπικού πληθυσμού, των μαθητών-φοιτητών και επισκεπτών σε θέματα αειφορίας, προστασίας του φυσικού και πολιτισμικού περιβάλλοντος των Γεωπάρκων και κατανόησης των συνεπειών της κλιματικής αλλαγής - Αύξηση του βαθμού προσβασιμότητας στους φυσικών και πολιτιστικών πόρων των Γεωπάρκων.

Expected Results (EN):

The main result of project is to increase the duration of the tourist season, arrivals and overnight stays and the length of stay for visitors in Geopark. This is will be achieved through the upgrading, promotion and enrichment of the offered geotourism product, meeting its growing demand in the tourist markets of Greece, Cyprus and abroad. Other expected results are: - Identify and create "identity" of Geoparks, as a destination for domestic and incoming geotourism. - Enrichment, upgrading of geo-tourism product and offering integrated geo-touristic experiences. - Protect, promote and exploit the natural and cultural heritage of Geoparks and preserve them as recognized Monuments of European and World Geological Heritage. - Sustainable local development with a strong contribution to the local economy and entrepreneurship, promotion of gender equality through empowerment of women entrepreneurship, improvement of the quality of life of the local population and attractiveness of rural areas as residence and work places. - Environmental education and awareness of the local population, students and visitors on sustainability issues, protection of the natural and cultural environment of Geoparks and understanding of the consequences of climate change - Increasing the accessibility to natural and cultural resources of Geoparks.

Οι κύριες αναμενόμενες εκροές του έργου είναι: - η δημιουργία κοινών δράσεων δημοσιότητας και πληροφόρησης του έργου, με στόχο την αφύπνιση και ευαισθητοποίηση της τοπικής επιχειρηματικής κοινότητας, των τοπικών φορέων και του ευρύ κοινού γύρω από τους στόχους και τα αποτελέσματα του έργου, - η διοργάνωση workshops υποστήριξης γεωτουριστικής επιχειρηματικότητας, - ο καθορισμός κοινών προδιαγραφών ποιότητας, με στόχο τη σύνδεση των γεωπάρκων και των τοπικών επιχειρήσεων και την υιοθέτηση φιλοπεριβαλλοντικής διαχείρισης σε όλο το φάσμα των δραστηριοτήτων τους, - η παραγωγή εκπαιδευτικών προγραμμάτων και εφαρμογών μάθησης, - η διοργάνωση επισκέψεων σχολείων και πανεπιστημιακών ιδρυμάτων, με στόχο την ευαισθητοποίηση, εκπαίδευση του τοπικού πληθυσμού των επισκεπτών και ειδικών ομάδων, όπως νέοι και μαθητές, - ο σχεδιασμός και η ανάπτυξη ψηφιακών και εξειδικευμένων εφαρμογών, - η προμήθεια εξοπλισμού ενίσχυσης του αθλητικού τουρισμού, - η εκπόνηση μελετών ανάπτυξης εναλλακτικών δραστηριοτήτων, - η δημιουργία, σήμανση και βελτίωση της προσβασιμότητας μονοπατιών και χαρακτηριστικών σημειών-αξιοθεάτων, - η επέκταση και βελτίωση των υπαρχόντων κέντρων ενημέρωσης, με στόχο την ενίσχυση των δομών και τον εμπλουτισμό των παρεχόμενων υπηρεσιών γεω-τουρισμού, ανάλογα με τις ανάγκες κάθε εταίρου, - η διοργάνωση πολιτιστικών και αθλητικών εκδηλώσεων γεωτουρισμού με στόχο την προβολή των περιοχών, την προώθηση των τοπικών προϊόντων και την προσέλκυση επισκεπτών, - η υλοποίηση δράσεων κοινής προβολής και προώθησης του γεωτουρισμού (συμμετοχή σε επιλεγμένες διεθνείς εκθέσεις, δημιουργία κοινού σπονδυλωτού video-teaser, παραγωγή έντυπου και ηλεκτρονικού υλικού καθώς και η φιλοξενία έγκριτων δημοσιογράφων εξειδικευμένων στον τομέα του εναλλακτικού τουρισμού.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The main expected project outputs are: - Creating actions joint publicity for raising awareness to local business community, local stakeholders and to general public around the objectives and results of the project, - the organization of workshops supporting geo-tourism entrepreneurship, - the establishment of common quality standards to connect geoparks and local businesses and the adoption of environmentally management, - the production of educational programs and learning applications, - organizing visits to schools and universities, aiming at raising awareness, educating the local population, visitors and special groups such as young people and students, - the design and development of digital and specialized applications, - the supply of sports tourism equipment, - preparation of studies for alternative activities, - creating, marking and improving the accessibility of trails and landmarks, - the expansion and improvement of existing information centers with the aim of strengthening the structures and enhancing the geo-tourism services provided, depending on the needs of each partner, - organizing cultural and sporting geotourism events to promote the regions, local products and attract visitors, - the implementation of joint promotion of geotourism (participation in selected international exhibitions, creation of a common vertebrate video-teaser, production of printed and electronic material and the hosting of journalists specialized in alternative tourism).
