Description


Description (EN): The Sustainable Surfaces & Membranes (S²M) project focuses on the two key areas of antimicrobial surfaces for various applications (“Antimicrobial”) and a wide range of innovative and customized membrane technologies (“Membranes”). The project is located in industrial research. The questions asked by companies from different sectors (sanitary engineering, coatings, paints, sealants, adhesives, photovoltaics, fuel cells, food production and storage, etc.) will be addressed in cooperation with universities and research institutions. The use of conventional biocides and heavy metal compounds is consistently avoided in the production of antimicrobial surfaces; instead, intrinsically antimicrobial polymers (thermoplastic and cross-linked), high-energy nanoparticles and polydopamine are used, tested and developed for specific applications. The central objective of the project is to develop antimicrobial coating materials for outdoor use and in hygienically sensitive areas, antimicrobial adhesives and sealants for sanitary facilities and refrigeration rooms, antimicrobial components for sanitary engineering, antimicrobial composites and gel coats, antimicrobial films and coatings for solar modules, antimicrobial membranes, packing membranes for humidity control in food storage, repair resins for membrane grouting, ceramic materials and membranes for fuel cells. In addition, a technical method to characterize biofilms and a standard test method to characterize bacterial contamination in emulsion paints will be developed.
Description: Het project Sustainable Surfaces & Membranes (S²M)) richt zich op de twee belangrijke activiteiten van antimicrobiële oppervlakten voor verschillende toepassingen ("Antimicrobial") en een breed spectrum van innovatieve en op maat gesneden membraantechnologieën ("Membranes"). Het project valt onder industrieel onderzoek. De problemen van bedrijven uit diverse sectoren (sanitaire techniek, coatings, verven, kitten, lijmen, zonnepanelen, brandstofcellen, de productie en bewaring van voedsel, etc.) worden bewerkt in samenwerking met universiteiten en onderzoeksinstellingen. Om antimicrobiële oppervlakken te bereiken wordt consequent afgezien van het gebruik van conventionele biociden en zware metaalverbindingen; als alternatief worden intrinsiek antimicrobiële polymeren (thermoplastisch en verbonden), hoge-energie-nanodeeltjes en polydopamine gebruikt, getest en verder ontwikkeld voor specifieke toepassingen. Centrale projectdoelstellingen zijn: de ontwikkeling van antimicrobiële coating materialen voor gebruik buitenshuis en in hygiënisch gevoelige gebieden, antimicrobiële lijmen en kitten voor sanitair en koelruimten, antimicrobiële componenten voor sanitaire techniek, antimicrobiële composieten en gelcoats, antimicrobiële films en coatings voor zonnepanelen, antimicrobiële membranen, verpakkingsmembranen voor de vochtregulering bij voedselopslag, reparatieharsen voor membraangietwerk, keramische materialen en membranen voor brandstofcellen. Bovendien worden een methode voor het karakteriseren van biofilms en een standaardtestmethode voor de karakterisering van bacteriële besmetting in emulsieverf ontwikkeld.
