Description (EN):

Forecasts predict that in 2020 there will be up to 7 billions of wireless / mobile devices accessing the same transmission channel, the air interface. In addition, the demands of users on the data transfer rate are constantly increasing. The higher utilization increases the interference (i.e., mutual interference between the devices), which causes transmission errors and also connection drops. Although wireless standards ensure interoperability between different manufacturers for the same system (e.g. Bluetooth), they can not guarantee coexistence with other, unknown, wireless systems at the same or adjacent frequencies. This is particularly critical for the royalty-free usable frequency ranges, since they are used by an increasing number of heterogeneous radio systems. The project aims to capture, model and, for the first time, provide tools for planning and testing new radio systems, taking into account typical interferences. This know-how is to be brought together in a supra-regional project and made available to the regional companies for the purpose of strengthening their profitability. The findings will be tested between the project partners using UHF RFID identification and localization systems as examples, since a large number of different interference problems can be tested on commercial hardware as well as on modifiable developments. In pilot studies with Frequentis (AT) and Sewio or Evotech (CZ), the developed tools and procedures should be extended to other radio standards and interference situations in order to reach a wider public. The partner regions have a strong industrial base in the field of radio communication with established companies in the field of microelectronics, embedded systems and information technology. The business models of many companies in the partner regions are based on reliable radio transmission. The scientific cooperation and the involvement of regional companies will transfer know-how from the universities to the company partners. At the end of the project, the results and new tools will be presented to a wider circle of companies. Since specific adaptations are desirable for the optimal use of the developed tools, the supra-regional contact between business and academic partners is promoted. Combined with the already existing excellent regional networking of the universities, the basis for further supra-regional company projects and research projects should be created.

Dle prognóz bude v roce 2020 využíváno na 7 bilionů bezdrátových / mobilních zařízení, která budou komunikovat pomocí rádiové linky na témže přenosovém kanálu. Kromě toho zároveň narůstají požadavky uživatelů na rychlost přenosu dat. Se zvyšujícím se vytížení se zvyšuje interference (tj., vzájemné rušení mezi zařízeními) a tím i chyby přenosu, což může vést k přerušní spojení. Normy pro radiove komunikace sice zajišťují interoperabilitu mezi různými výrobci jednoho a téhož systému (například Bluetooth), nicméně nemohou garantovat koexistenci s jiným neznámým rádiovými systémy na stejných nebo sousedních frekvencí. To je zvláště kritické pro zařízení pracující na volných frekvenčních pásmech, neboť počet takovýchto heterogenních bezdrátových systémů se neustále zvyšuje. Projekt si klade za cíl zachytit interferenční efekty, vytvořit modely a v první řadě poskytnout nástroje pro navrhování a testování nových rádiových systémů s přihlédnutím k typickým rušením. Tyto znalosti budou v projektu přeshraniční spolupráce sloučeny, aby byly k dispozici regionálním firmám za účelem posílení jejich ekonomického růstu. Žadatelé (projektoví partneři) se v tomto směru navzájem dolňují v oblasti svých specifických znalostí i potřebných zdrojů pro řešení projektu (RF testovací laboratoře, hardware, software). Získané poznatky budou testovány projektovými partnery na případových studiích systémů radofrekvenční identifikace (UHF RFID) a lokalizace z důvodu jejich vhodnosti pro testování celé řady problémů spojených s rušením jak komerčního hardwaru tak vlastního vývoje. V průběhu pilotních studií s firmami Frequentis (AT) a Sewio nebo Evotech (CZ) by měly být vyvíjené nástroje rozšířeny i pro další bezdrátové standardy a scénáře interferencí s cílem oslovit co nejširší odbornou veřejnost. Partnerské regiony v oblasti bezdrátové komunikace mají silné průmyslové zázemí se zavedenými firmami v oblasti mikroelektroniky, embedded systémů a informačních technologií. Obchodní modely mnoha technologických společností mají přesah do oblasti bezdrátových technologií. Prostřednictvím vědecké spolupráce a zapojením regionálních společností v rámci plánovaných pilotních studií bude zajištěn přenos odborných znalostí od univerzit na firemní partnery. Závěrem projektu budou výsledky a nové nástroje prezentovány širšímu okruhu firem. Vzhledem k tomu, že jsou pro optimální využití vyvinutých nástrojů žádoucí přizpůsobení specifická pro dané aplikace, bude předně podpořen kontakt mezi průmyslovými a akademickými partnery. V kombinaci s již existujícím vynikajícím propojením partnerských univerzit, bude vytvořen základ pro další podnikatelské záměry a výzkumné projekty napříč regiony.

Prognosen sagen voraus, dass es im Jahre 2020 bis zu 7 Billarden drahtlose/mobile Geräte geben wird, die auf denselben Übertragungskanal, die Luftschnittstelle, zugreifen. Zudem wachsen die Anforderungen der NutzerInnen an die Datenübertragungsrate beständig an. Durch die höhere Auslastung steigt die Interferenz (d.h. wechselseitige Störung zwischen den Geräten) wodurch Übertragungsfehler und auch Verbindungsabbrüche entstehen. Zwar sichern Funkstandards die Interoperabilität zwischen verschiedenen Herstellern für ein und dasselbe System (z.B. Bluetooth), jedoch können diese nicht die Koexistenz mit anderen, unbekannten, Funksystemen auf den gleichen oder benachbarten Frequenzen garantieren. Dies ist insbesondere für die lizenzfrei nutzbaren Frequenzbereiche kritisch, da diese von einer zunehmenden Zahl heterogener Funksysteme genutzt werden. Das Projekt zielt darauf ab, die Interferenzeffekte zu erfassen, zu modellieren und erstmalig Werkzeuge für die Planung und den Test neuer Funksysteme unter Berücksichtigung typischer Störungen zur Verfügung zu stellen. Dieses Know-how soll in einem überregionalen Projekt zusammengeführt und den regionalen Firmen zum Zweck der Stärkung von deren Wirtschaftlichkeit zur Verfügung gestellt werden. Für dieses Vorhaben ergänzen sich die Antragsteller hervorragen im Bereich Ihres spezifischen Know-hows als auch der erforderlichen F&E Ressourcen (HF-Messlabore, Hardware, Software). Die gewonnenen Erkenntnisse werden zwischen den Projektpartnern exemplarisch an UHF RFID Identifikations- und Lokalisierungssystemen getestet, da hier eine Vielzahl verschiedener Interferenzprobleme an kommerzieller Hardware als auch an eigenen, modifizierbaren, Entwicklungen getestet werden kann. Im Zuge von Pilotstudien mit Frequentis (AT) and Sewio od. Evotech (CZ) sollen die entwickelten Werkzeuge und Verfahren auf andere Funkstandards und Interferenzsituationen erweitert werden, um so eine breitere Öffentlichkeit anzusprechen. Die Partnerregionen haben auf dem Gebiet der Funkkommunikation eine starke industrielle Basis mit etablierten Firmen im Bereich der Mikroelektronik, Embedded Systems und Informationstechnologie. Die Geschäftsmodelle vieler in den Partnerregionen ansässiger Firmen beruhen dabei auf einer zuverlässigen Funkübertragung. Durch die wissenschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und die Einbindung regionaler Unternehmen mittels der geplanten Pilotstudien erfolgt der Know-how Transfer von den Universitäten zu den Firmenpartnern. Zu Projektende sollen die Ergebnisse und neuen Werkzeuge einem breiteren Firmenkreis präsentiert werden. Da für die optimale Nutzung der entwickelten Werkzeuge spezifische Anpassungen wünschenswert sind, wird so zunächst der überregionale Kontakt zwischen Wirtschaft und akademischen Partnern gefördert. Kombiniert mit der bereits vorhandenen exzellenten regionalen Vernetzung der Universitäten, soll so die Basis für weitere überregionale Firmenprojekte und Forschungsvorhaben geschaffen werden.

Achievements (EN):

Measurement campaigns & complexity reduction: Common communication standards used in the IoT industry (e.g. Wi-Fi, BLE and LoRa) have been analysed in terms of their interference capability. Using measurements at different locations, typical traffic scenarios were abstracted. With this knowledge, various sources of interference (e.g. modulated noise) were investigated through simulations and experiments. The latest results can be found under the following links: Fault recording and reproducing: To support the evaluation of RF interference in application configurations, one of the objectives of the project is to provide a publicly available design of a software-defined radio (SDR)-based interference emulator. To ensure high flexibility for a wide range of application measurements, the SDR emulator has been designed as a modular device that has a powerful FPGA SoC and supports commercially available RF frontends for different frequency bands. Nonlinear interference models: A collection of mathematical models focusing on nonlinearity can be found in this section. Pilot studies: In order to assess InterOP’s interoperability modelling and mitigation concepts, please take a look at our pilot study reports.

Achievements (DE):

Messkampagnen & Komplexitätsreduktion: Gängige Kommunikationsstandards, die in der IoT-Branche verwendet werden (zB WLAN, BLE und LoRa), wurden hinsichtlich ihrer Interferenzfähigkeit analysiert. Anhand von Messungen an verschiedenen Orten wurden typische Verkehrsszenarien abstrahiert. Mit diesem Wissen wurden verschiedene Störquellen (zB moduliertes Rauschen) durch Simulationen und Experimente untersucht. Die neuesten Ergebnisse finden Sie unter den folgenden Links: Störungsaufnahme und -wiedergabe: Um die Bewertung von HF-Interferenzen in Anwendungskonfigurationen zu unterstützen, besteht eines der Ziele des Projekts darin, ein öffentlich verfügbares Design eines auf Software definierten Funks (SDR) basierenden Interferenzemulators bereitzustellen. Um eine hohe Flexibilität für eine Vielzahl von Anwendungsmessungen zu gewährleisten, wurde der SDR-Emulator als modulares Gerät konzipiert, das über einen leistungsstarken FPGA-SoC verfügt und kommerziell erhältliche HF-Frontends für verschiedene Frequenzbänder unterstützt. Očekávané cíle projektu Interop jsou: 1. Soubor nástrojů vývojového prostředí pro simulace a emulace a metody měření, které slouží jako základ pro další vývoj. 2. Kontakt pro regulační orgány, průmysl a vědecké instituce k tématu interoperability / koexistence. Partneři projektu zajistťují udržitelnost znalostí know-how o projektu i po jeho dokončení. K tomu slouží webové stránky, které obsahují informace o seminářích a službách, výsledky a postupy, které budou volně přístupné. 3. Tři veřejné semináře a výměna kontaktů mezi průmyslovými a výzkumnými partnery regionů. 4. Návazná spolupráce v aplikovaném výzkumu (Horizont 2020 atd) a výměny vědeckých pracovníků. Jako cílová hodnota byly stanoveny dva společné výzkumné návrhy projektu. 5. Integrace vývojového prostředí do výuky.

Expected Outputs (DE):

Die zu erwartenden Ziele des Projekts InterOP sind: 1. Eine Entwicklungsumgebung von Simulations-, Emulations-Tools und Messverfahren, sie dient als Grundlage für weitere Entwicklungsdienstleistungen. 2. Ansprechpartner für Regulierungsbehörden, Industrie und Wissenschaft für Fragen der Interoperabilität/Koexistenz mittels Ausarbeitung von Studien. Die Projektpartner sichern das Know-how über das Projektende hinaus. Dazu dient eine Web-page, die über Seminare, Ergebnisse und Verfahren sowie über Dienstleistungen informiert, die frei zugänglich sein werden. 3. Drei öffentliche Seminare und Vermittlung von Industrie- und Forschungskontakten zwischen den Partnerregionen. 4. Fortsetzung der Zusammenarbeit in angewandter Forschung (Horizon 2020 etc.) und Austausch von wissenschaftlichem Personal. Als Zielwert werden zwei gemeinsame Forschungsanträge zu Projektende angestrebt. 5. Einbindung der Entwicklungsumgebung in die Lehre.
