For the economic development of the Danube Region (DR) it is decisive that SMEs have a strong competitive position & innovation performance (Regional Analysis-DR 2014, p.203)Considering digital revolution & disruptive technologies, SMEs in every industry of the participating regions are under intense pressure to rethink their business models, customer value propositions & operations. Smaller enterprises from less developed areas of the DR (rural area and small cities from East European countries of the DR) suffer more from the digital revolution than companies from more developed areas (normally strong urban communities).There is a strong need in the participating regions to develop solutions together and qualify SMEs from these underdeveloped areas to fully use digital opportunities. The approach of this project aims to create the necessary framework to develop a new project that includes specific activities that respond to Priority 8 Competitiveness of Enterprises. Topic. 3.Strengthening of SMEs capacities to improve their competitiveness and profitability. Available funding opp., like Horizon 2020 RURAL RENAISSANCE with open calls in 2018 – 2020, can offer the framework to develop innovative training measures for a better use of ICT tools and skills for entrepreneurs in less developed areas of the DR. The new project will forge a transnational alliance for the management of digital transformation with focus on rural area and small cities. The consortium will consist of leading digital innovation experts and scientists, well networked regional development actors and regional policy makers to assure a knowledge and different experiences transfer from the German and Austrian regions of the DR to less developed regions from DR. The new project will appeal at expertise from Business support organisations, research institutions, universities and NGO’s and will look for a close contact with relevant stakeholders such as Loc. and Reg. Auth., local SME’s etc.

Investment Priority: (11 ETC) ETC specific for transnational cooperation: enhancing institutional capacity of public authorities and stakeholders and efficient public administration by developing and coordinating macro-regional and sea-basin strategies
