Relativamente ai rivestimenti decorativi, le industrie utilizzano la galvanica per la deposizione dei film metallici e la vernice liquida per lo strato protettivo. Il processo in vuoto Phisycal Vapour Depositon ha avuto successo per trattamenti funzionali mentre per rivestimenti decorativi non si è affermato. L’idea progettuale nasce dall’esigenza di abbattere i costi ed incentivare l’uso delle tecnologie eco-compatibili, individuando il miglior metodo che accorpi le tecniche del vuoto per realizzare un rivestimento decorativo che soddisfi gli standard estetici e di resistenza chimico/meccanica richiesti dalle montature per occhiali e da molti altri articoli.

Bei Dekorverkleidungen verwenden die meisten Industriebetriebe bei der Metallfilmbeschichtung und beim Überzug von Schutzlacken galvanische Prozesse.Der Vakuumprozess Physical Vapour Deposition konnte bei funktionellen Beschichtungen von Oberflächen schon erfolgreich eingesetzt werden. Bei Dekorverkleidungen aber hat er sich noch nicht durchgesetzt. Der Projektanlass ergibt sich aus der Notwendigkeit, die Kosten zu senken und den Einsatz von umweltfreundlichen Techniken zu fördern, indem man einer Methode ausarbeitet, die die PVD- und PECVD – Vakuumtechniken für die Dekorbeschichtung umschließt, welche den ästhetischen Standards gerecht wird und die eine für Brillengestelle und viele andere Artikel notwendige mechanische und chemische Widerstandsfähigkeit aufweist.
