Description (EN):

This project will create a network of collections of microalgae and cyanobacteria in all the archipelagos of Macaronesia that will complement and expand the different collections that in a fragmented way coexist in this region. The network will serve as a basis for the promotion of collaborations and synergies that allow for different coordinated actions towards the conservation of biodiversity. In addition, it will serve as an embryo to the development and implementation of an industry associated with the blue economy in an area that has climatic conditions (light, temperature) and physical (sea) unbeatable for the cultivation of these organisms. These actions can benefit directly from public administrations, research centres and the industrial sector (cosmetic, nutraceutical, bioplastic,...), being able to generate direct and indirect jobs throughout the Macaronesian region. The project will also have a cooperation line in regions at risk of social exclusion.

Este proyecto creará una red de colecciones de microalgas y cianobacterias en todos los archipiélagos de la Macaronesia que complementará y ampliará las diferentes colecciones que de forma fragmentada coexisten en esta región. La red servirá de base para el fomento de colaboraciones y sinergias que permitan diferentes acciones coordinadas hacia la conservación de la biodiversidad. Además, servirá de embrión al desarrollo e implantación de una industria asociada a la economía azul en una zona que posee unas condiciones climáticas (luz, temperatura) y físicas (mar) inmejorables para el cultivo de estos organismos. De estas acciones se pueden beneficiar de forma directa las administraciones públicas, los centros de investigación y el sector industrial (cosmética, nutraceútica, bioplásticos,...), pudiendo generar puestos de trabajo directos e indirectos en toda la región Macaronésica. Asimismo, el proyecto contará con una línea de cooperación en regiones con riesgo de exclusión social.
