In the project Border as Attraction, we work together with tourism organisations and managers for protected nature in Bohuslän, Dalsland and Østfold to further develop the sustainable crop industry in the border region and contribute to creating new long-term business collaborations. We are working to promote the development of cross-border cooperation and the development of cross-border products, thereby increasing the attractiveness and competitiveness of the border region.

I projektet Gränsen som attraktion arbetar vi tillsammans med turistorganisationer och förvaltare för skyddad natur i Bohuslän, Dalsland och Østfold för att vidareutveckla den hållbara beöksnäringen i gränsregionen och bidra till att skapa nya långsiktiga företagssamarbeten. Vi arbetar för att främja utvecklingen av det gränsöverskridande samarbetet och utvecklingen av gränsregionala produkter för att därigenom öka gränsregionens attraktion och konkurrenskraft.

Achievements (EN):

Bohuslän, Dalsland and Østfold attract a large number of visitors each year. However, few tourists choose to take part in the border region’s total offer, either holidays in Sweden or in Norway. The actors in the region want to change that. The Svinesund Committee and Visit Østfold collaborated with local tourism organisations and companies in the project Gränsen as an attraction with the aim of contributing to new long-term business collaborations in the hospitality industry. Authorised cross-border guides. While it is important for residents and visitors to experience the unique nature of the border region, such as the three national parks Kosterhavet, Outer Hvaler and Tresticklan, it is also important to protect our natural values. A sustainable way to take part in nature is on a tour with a trained guide. The project developed a guide course focusing on protected nature and border history. In total, 24 guides took the course and they are now gathered in a common guide pool. These guides are the first to be authorised by both the Swedish and Norwegian Guide Associations. Five new tourism companies were also started by participants in the guide courses. They offer new products to visitors who broaden the range of destinations. Tours in borderland. The border as an attraction also worked on joint marketing including a border regional tourist map and cross-border tour proposals. The concept of “Tours in Borderland” offers the opportunity to discover new spots in the region. For example, cultural tour of the borderland through forested Dalsland to historic Halden and wonderfully hang out in the marine national parks with tips on three-day Saltkråkan experiences! Networks between tourism companies were strengthened. The project also developed networks between tourism organisations in the border region into a forum where colleagues can exchange experiences with each other. The project organised many activities, such as photography with mobile camera, social media and study trips. For several companies, this was the first meeting with colleagues on the other side of the national border. This was important in order to give companies an opportunity to get to know each other, learn from each other and perhaps eventually cooperate with each other. The project owner was the Svinesund Committee and Visit Østfold. Interreg celebrates 30 years, as we highlight in a series of articles. The Border as Attraction project belongs to the theme we all have neighbors.

Bohuslän, Dalsland och Østfold lockar tillsammans ett stort antal besökare varje år. Men få turister väljer att ta del av gränsregionens samlade utbud, antingen semestrar man i Sverige eller i Norge. Aktörerna i regionen vill ändra på det. Svinesundskommittén och Visit Østfold samarbetade med lokala turistorganisationer och företag i projektet Gränsen som attraktion med målet att bidra till nya långsiktiga affärssamarbeten inom besöksnäringen. Auktoriserade gränsöverskridande guider. Samtidigt som det är viktigt att invånare och besökare får möjlighet att uppleva den unika naturen i gränsregionen, till exempel de tre nationalparkerna Kosterhavet, Ytre Hvaler och Tresticklan, är det också viktigt att skydda våra naturvärden. Ett hållbart sätt att ta del av naturen är på en tur med en utbildad guide. I projektet utvecklades en guidekurs med fokus på skyddad natur och gränshistoria. Totalt gick 24 guider kursen och de finns nu samlade i en gemensam guidepool. Dessa guider är de första som auktoriserades av både Sveriges och Norges guideförbund. Fem nya besöksnäringsföretag startades dessutom av deltagare i guidekurserna. De erbjuder nya produkter till besökarna som breddar destinationernas utbud. Turer i gränsland. Gränsen som attraktion arbetade också med gemensam marknadsföring som bland annat inkluderar en gränsregional turistkarta och gränsöverskridande turförslag. Genom konceptet ”Turer i gränsland” erbjuds möjligheten att upptäcka nya smultronställen i regionen. Till exempel kulturtur i gränslandet genom skogsklädda Dalsland till historiska Halden och härligt häng i de marina nationalparkerna med tips om tredagars Saltkråkan-upplevelser! Nätverk mellan besöksnäringsföretagen stärktes. Genom projektet utvecklades även nätverk mellan turistorganisationerna i gränsregionen till ett forum där kollegor kan byta erfarenheter med varandra. Projektet arrangerade många aktiviteter som handlade om exempelvis fotografering med mobilkamera, sociala medier samt studieresor. För flera företag var detta första mötet med kollegor på andra sidan riksgränsen. Detta var viktigt för att ge företagen en möjlighet att lära känna varandra, lära av varandra och kanske i förlängningen samarbeta med varandra. Projektägare var Svinesundskommittén och Visit Østfold. Interreg firar 30 år vilket vi uppmärksammar i en artikelserie. Projektet Gränsen som attraktion hör till temat alla har vi grannar.
