Description (SV):

Projektets mål: Projektets huvudmål är dokumentera, bevara och upprätthålla miljöns tillstånd och naturens mångfald vid Tana älven. Projektet kommer att främja ett bra ekologiskt tillstånd i älven och därmed bidra till målen för EU:s vattendirektiv. Miljömyndigheter, forskningsinstitut, kommuner och fiskeorganisationer i Finland och Norge ska förena sin miljökompetens och nyttja den i förvaltningen av Tanaälven. Projektet har ett tydligt gränsöverskridande mervärde. Det långsiktiga målet är att förbättra älvens skyddsnivå vilket utgör grunden för gränsområdets sociala och ekonomiska utveckling. Projektets delmål är: - att utveckla webbaserade verktyg för fiskevården genom att skapa ett gemensamt datasystem över förekomstområden för vandringsfiskens yngel samt naturmiljön i och kring Tana älvens vattendragsområde. - att förbättra fiskens habitat genom att avlägsna vandringshinder/vägtrummor och bedöma den tidigare restaureringsverksamhetens inverkan genom informationsutbyte om bästa metoder. - att utveckla ett gemensamt övervakningsprogram för vattenkvaliteten och det ekologiska tillståndet i Tana älv och publicera övervakningsresultaten inklusive resultaten från kontroll av avloppsreningsverkens effekter på vattendraget. - att öka kännedomen om Tanadalens mångfald och förbättra styrverktygen för biodiversitet som stöd för kommuners planering och beslutsfattande på den lokala och regionala nivån. En gemensam kunskapsplattform är en förutsättning för framtida styrning av den biodiversiteten. Förväntat resultat Projektets resultat ska användas till att uppdatera nationella naturskyddsprogram och kommunerna kan använda projektets resultat som ett stöd när de fattar beslut om näringslivsutveckling. Projektbeskrivning Tana älven är ett vidsträckt älvsystem på gränsen mellan Finland och Norge. Älven är en av de viktigaste fortplantningsområdena för lax och havsöring i Atlanten. Lagstiftning, arbetssätt och skötsel av Tana älven och dess naturmiljö skiljer sig åt mellan länderna. Ett gränsöverskridande harmoniserat arbete är nödvändigt för att främja en hållbar utveckling av Tana älvens ekosystem.

Description (EN):

Objectives of the project: The main objective of the project is to document, preserve and maintain the state of the environment and the diversity of nature at the Tana River. The project will promote a good ecological condition in the river and thus contribute to the objectives of the EU Water Directive. Environmental authorities, research institutes, municipalities and fisheries organisations in Finland and Norway must combine their environmental competence and use it in the management of the Tana River. The project has a clear cross-border added value. The long-term objective is to improve the river’s level of protection, which forms the basis for the social and economic development of the border area. The project’s milestones are: — to develop web-based tools for fisheries management by creating a common computer system on presence areas for migratory fish’s juveniles and the natural environment in and around the Tana river basin. — improving the habitat of fish by removing migratory barriers/road drums and assessing the impact of previous restoration activities through exchange of best practices. — to develop a joint monitoring programme on water quality and the ecological state of the Tana River and to publish the monitoring results including the results of monitoring the effects of wastewater treatment plants on the watercourse. — to raise awareness of the diversity of the Tana Valley and improve biodiversity governance tools to support local and regional planning and decision-making; A common knowledge platform is a prerequisite for future governance of biodiversity. Expected results The results of the project will be used to update national nature conservation programmes and municipalities can use the project’s results as a support when making decisions about business development. The Tana River is a vast river system on the border between Finland and Norway. The river is one of the most important breeding areas for salmon and sea trout in the Atlantic Ocean. Legislation, working methods and management of the Tana river and its natural environment differ from one country to another. Cross-border harmonised work is necessary to promote the sustainable development of the Tana river ecosystem.

Achievements (SV):

Mål: Projektets huvudmål var att dokumentera, bevara och upprätthålla miljöns tillstånd och naturens mångfald vid Tana älven. Resultat: - Forskningsdata om distributionen av unga laxfiskar som samlats på båda sidor av den finska och norska gränsen har organiserats i en enda databas och visas på digitala kartor: Teno River Salmon Maps (kalahavainnot.luke.fi). Den nya laxbaserade databasen hjälper finska och norska myndigheter och lokala fiskeriorganisationer att formulera fiskeregler baserade på biologiska data i floden Tana och bifloder. - Projektet utvärderade hindren som orsakades av vägkulvertar för fiskmigration och fortsatte eliminering av migrationshinder från bifloder till floden Tana som började på 2000-talet. Den uppdaterade bedömningen av fiskmigrationsbarriärerna som bildas av vägkulvertar i bifloder till floden Tana finns i rapporten Gemensam miljöledning för floden Tana - WP2 Migrationsbarriärer. - De norska och finska miljömyndigheterna har sammanställt ett gemensamt övervakningsprogram för floden Tana. Miljöstatusbedömningar och övervakningsdata om utsläpp och effekter av avloppsreningsverk i avrinningsområdet finns på webbplatsen för finsk-norska gränsöverskridande vattenkommission: Jätevedet SuomalaisNorjalainen rajavesistökomissio). - Kommuner och miljömyndigheter har utbytt information om hotade arter och skyddade livsmiljöer. Achievements (EN):

Objective: The main objective of the project was to document, preserve and maintain the state of the environment and the diversity of nature at the Tana River. Results: - Research data on the distribution of young salmonids collected on both sides of the Finnish and Norwegian borders has been organised in a single database and displayed on digital maps: Teno River Salmon Maps (kalahavainnot.luke.fi). The new salmon-based database helps Finnish and Norwegian authorities and local fisheries organisations to formulate fisheries rules based on biological data in the Tana River and tributaries. - The project evaluated the obstacles caused by road culverts for fish migration and continued the elimination of migration barriers from tributaries to the river Tana beginning in the 2000 @@ century. The updated assessment of the fish migration barriers formed by road culverts in tributaries of the river Tana can be found in the report “Common Environmental Management for the Tana River — WP2 Migration Barriers”. - The Norwegian and Finnish environmental authorities have put together a joint monitoring programme for the river Tana. Environmental status assessments and monitoring data on emissions and effects of sewage treatment plants in the catchment area can be found on the website of the Finnish-Norwegian Transboundary Water Commission: Jätevedet SuomalaisNorjalainen rajavesistökomissio). - Municipalities and environmental authorities have exchanged information on endangered species and protected habitats. The collaborative project gathered information on rare habitats of poorly known species, such as small flies.
