The main objective of the second phase of the Visit Arctic Europe project is to increase the profitability of tourism companies, create new year-round jobs and increase opportunities to start businesses and invest in the Arctic region. The aim of the project is to strengthen cross-border networking and commercial cooperation so that the Visit Arctic Europe area can be further developed and that the region becomes a high-quality and sustainable tourist destination all year round. The project’s activities focus on three main areas: — marketing (image and tactical) — development of accessibility (internal and external) — development of the region and competitiveness of businesses (digitalisation, sustainable development, market awareness and product development). All activities in the project focus on cross-border networking and sustainable development. The Finnish Lapland Tourist Board, Swedish Lapland Visitors Board and Northern Norway Tourist Board are partners in the project. Approximately 110 participating companies and organisations related to the tourism industry in Finnish Lapland, Norrbotten and parts of Västerbotten in Sweden, Nordland, Troms and Finnmark in Norway are participating in the project. VAE II is the next step in the cross-border cooperation project Visit Arctic Europe, which achieved good results through cross-border cooperation. The project plan for VAE II is drawn up on the basis of the results of the previous project.

Den viktigaste målsättningen i projektet Visit Arctic Europes andra fas är att öka turistföretagens lönsamhet, skapa nya året runt-arbeten och öka möjligheterna att starta företag och investera i det arktiska området. Projektets målsättning är att stärka gränsöverskridande nätverkande och det kommersiella samarbetet så att Visit Arctic Europe-området kan utvecklas ytterligare och att regionen blir ett högklassigt och hållbart turistmål året runt. Projektets verksamhet koncentreras på tre huvudområden: - marknadsföring (image och taktisk) - utveckling av tillgängligheten (internt och externt) - utveckling av regionen och företagens konkurrensförmåga (digitalisering, hållbar utveckling, marknadsmedvetenhet och produktutveckling). All verksamhet i projektet fokuserar på det gränsöverskridande nätverkandet och hållbar utveckling. Finnish Lapland Tourist Board, Swedish Lapland Visitors Board och Northern Norway Tourist Board är partner i projektet. Ungefär 110 deltagande företag och organisationer med koppling till turistnäringen i finska Lappland, Norrbotten samt delar av Västerbotten i Sverige, Nordland, Troms och Finnmark i Norge deltar i projektet. VAE II är nästa steg i det gränsöverskridande samarbetsprojektet Visit Arctic Europe, där man uppnådde goda resultat genom gränsöverskridande samarbete. Projektplanen för VAE II är upprättad på basis av resultaten från föregående projekt.

Achievements (EN):

Visit Arctic Europe II (VAE II) is a cross-border cooperation project for tourism between Finnish and Swedish Lapland and Northern Norway. VAE II is funded by Interreg Nord and launched in 2018 as a continuation of the VAE I project, which was carried out in 2015-2018. The project involves 120 tourism companies and regional organisations from three countries. Cooperation partners are Lapin Matkailuelinkeinon liitto (LME), Swedish Lapland Visitors Board and Northern Norway Tourist Board. The main objective of the project is to develop the UAE region into a sustainable, high-quality destination that can be visited throughout the year. The project is also working on promoting a new tourist season – the Arctic autumn. The measures consist of tourism marketing, which includes both tactical marketing in collaboration with tour operators and image marketing according to the This is Arctic concept. VAE II is also working on improving the accessibility of the area, which includes both the internal and external accessibility of the UAE area from the market areas. In the course of the project, direct flights to the VAE area were opened and the Arctic Route was launched to promote mobility within the area. During the coronavirus pandemic, the project managed to adapt the measures within the project and quickly develop new ways of operating. Among other things, the study visits of tour operators in the UAE area were digitised as part of the project. The project was able to carry out 21 digital visits, involving a total of 373 tour operators. In addition, the project carried out both physical and digital sales events (sales workshops) to which the companies and tour operators involved in the project were invited. In addition, webinar series on digitalisation and sustainable development were organised within the framework of VAE II.
