Description (DE): Projektaktivitäten und Maßnahmen zur Stabilisierung und Förderung einer weiteren Verbreitung der durch Aussterben bedrohten Population des Steinkauzes (Athene noctua) im sächsisch-tschechischen Grenzgebiet.

Achievements (DE):

Der Steinkauz (Athene noctua) gehört zu den am meisten bedrohten mitteleuropäischen Vogelarten. Ziel des Projektes war es, dem rasanten Bestandsrückgang der Steinkäuze in Sachsen (11 Brutpaare) und Tschechien (100-130 Brutpaare) entgegenzuwirken. Projektergebnisse: Maßnahmen auf dem Gebiet der öffentlichen Information. Platzierung von 42 Nistkästen im Kreis Ústí nad Labem und Veröffentlichung von Bauanleitungen. Zahl stieg auf 113 Nistkästen (1.11.2021). Animierung und Anleitung zur unkomplizierten Mitwirkung der Bevölkerung durch Flyerkampagnen und Jahreskalender „Von Käuzen und Menschen“. Beratung von Flächen- und Grundstücksbesitzern zur Beseitigung potenziell tödlicher Fallen. Zusammenfassung von Informationen und Mitmachmaterialien unter www.birdlife.cz/athene Monitoring. Überprüfung der Verbreitung des Steinkauzes im Kreis Ústí nad Labem an 516 Standorten mittels Klangattrappen, an 20 Standorten jährlich, an 50 Standorten zumindest einmalig Steinkauz beobachtet – aktuell noch sehr wenige Territorien im Vergleich zur Situation vor 60 Jahren. Beobachtung, Nestsuche und -kontrolle sowie Spurensuche – Ermittlung der aktuellen Paare und Jungtiere: Anstieg der Zahl der Jungtiere in den Projektnistkästen von 9 auf 46. Individuenidentifizierung durch Rufanalyse. ausgearbeitete, feldtaugliche Methodik. Zusammenstellung einer erweiterbaren Rufbibliothek von an 48 Standorten ansässigen Steinkauzmännchen. Feststellung der Standorttreue und der Überlebensrate einzelner Tiere. Erforschung und bedürfnisgerechte Anpassung der Lebensräume. GIS-Kartierung der festgestellten Steinkauzvorkommen und Charakterisierung der Biotope. 58% der Standorte im Kreis Ústí landwirtschaftlich geprägt: Bauernhöfe, Scheunen; hohe Rate aber auch in Plattenbauten korreliert mit Vorhandensein von landw. Gebäuden, Obstwiesen, Gärten, Weideland, Grasflächen, und Ackerboden (kein Wald). Analyse der Nistplatzeignung anhand eigener Nistkästen, bisher dominant deutsche Nistkästen platziert, Ausgleich durch Kästen holländischer und englischer Bauart. Sicherstellung der steinkauzverträglichen Bewirtschaftung von Wiesenflächen in Absprache mit Bauern. auf 15,55 ha Streifen- und Mosaikmahd, auf 29,8 ha Reduzierung der Anzahl an Weidetieren pro Fläche. Beseitigung hunderter technischer Fallen und Einrichtung von Sitzwarten an geeigneten Stellen. Hängenbleiben in hohlen Objekten und Behältern als sehr häufige Todesursache erkannt (39,1 % der anthropogenen Todesursachen). Genetische Untersuchungen. Erforschung der genetischen Populationsstruktur der ansässigen Steinkäuze zur Einschätzung z.B. von Wanderbewegungen. Genpool kleiner Populationen wie des Steinkauzes neigt zur Verarmung: 76 identifizierte Individuen, Genpool der größeren, tschechischen Population zeigt gute Parameter. sächsische Population genärmer + für weitere Analysen nicht genügend Material vorhanden. Achievements (EN):

The stone rabbit (Athene noctua) is one of the most endangered Central European bird species. The aim of the project was to counteract the rapid decline in the stock of the stone cheeks in Saxony (11 breeding pairs) and the Czech Republic (100-130 breeding pairs). Project results: Measures in the field of public information. Placement of 42 nesting boxes in the district of Ústí nad Labem and publication of building instructions. Number increased to 113 nest boxes (1.11.2021). Animation and guidance on the uncomplicated participation of the population through flyer campaigns and annual calendar “From cheeks and people”. Analysis of nesting site suitability using own nest boxes, previously dominant German nesting boxes placed, offset by boxes of Dutch and English construction. Ensuring the sustainable management of meadows in consultation with farmers. on 15.55 ha of strip and mosaic mahd, to a reduction of 29.8 ha in the number of grazing animals per area. Eliminate hundreds of technical traps and set up seating rooms in suitable places. Hanging in hollow objects and containers recognised as a very common cause of death ( 39.1 % of anthropogenic causes of death). Genetic testing. Research into the genetic population structure of the resident stone cheeks to assess e.g. migratory movements. Gene pool of small populations such as the stone rabbit tends to impoverish: 76 identified individuals, gene pool of the larger, Czech population shows good parameters.
