Achievements (EN):

The abbreviation GECON stands for three words — Geology, Cooperation, Network — i.e. geology, cooperation, network. The aim of the project was to connect all institutions and individuals dedicated to the exploration, protection or popularisation of geological heritage in the Saxon-Czech border area, thanks to an informal platform. The participants included universities, geoparks, associations, nature conservation authorities and environmental education centres, museums and interested researchers. Events within this network led the participants to little known but important geological phenomena of the Euroregion Neiße. A key point here was the mutual exchange on the results of geoscientific research, and possibilities for an appropriate presentation and protection of these special geotopes. Project activities: Numerous excursions or terrain workshops in the Euroregion Neiße on the Saxon and Czech sides on the following topics: Vulcanism, Quaternary and tertiary sediments, historical mining, tectonic phenomena and fractures, Sources, Pseudocarster symptoms, etc. Workshops on museum exhibition concepts, Geoparks: Transfer of knowledge and geotope protection, GIS, geosites, modern technology to geol. Field research Study trips: Geopark Ralsko in Bohemian Paradise, Bavarian-Czech Geopark, Saxon-Bohemian Switzerland, Geopark Muskauer Folding Arch Other actions: two summer schools, two conferences. Project results: functioning network that continues to live in new smaller and larger projects, GECON web portal as a basis for the promotion of events, Publicity, joint strategy paper, Brochure on the findings gained in the team. Achievements (DE):

Die Abkürzung GECON steht für drei Wörter – Geology, Cooperation, Network – d. h. Geologie, Kooperation, Netzwerk. Projektziel war es, alle Institutionen und Personen, die sich der Erforschung, dem Schutz oder der Popularisierung des geologischen Erbes im sächsisch-tschechischen Grenzraum widmen, dank einer informellen Plattform zu vernetzen. Zu den Teilnehmern zählten Hochschulen, Geoparks, Vereine, Naturschutzbehörden und Umweltbildungszentren, Museen und interessierte Forscher. Veranstaltungen im Rahmen dieses Netzwerks führten die Teilnehmenden zu kaum bekannten, aber dafür bedeutenden geologischen Phänomenen der Euroregion Neiße. Ein Kernpunkt war hier der gegenseitige Austausch über Ergebnisse der geowissenschaftlichen Forschungen, und Möglichkeiten einer geeigneten Präsentation und Schutz dieser besonderen Geotope. Projektaktivitäten: Zahlreiche Exkursionen bzw. Geländeworkshops in der Euroregion Neiße auf sächsischer und tschechischer Seite zu folgenden Themen: Vulkanismus, Quartär- und Tertiärsedimente, historischer Bergbau, tektonische Phänomene und Brüche, Quellen, Pseudokarsterscheinungen u. a. Workshops zu musealen Ausstellungskonzepten, Geoparks: Vermittlung von Wissen und Geotopschutz, GIS, Geosites, moderner Technologie zur geol. Feldforschung Studienreisen: Geopark Ralsko im Böhmischen Paradies, Bayrisch-Tschechischer Geopark, Sächsisch-Böhmische Schweiz, Geopark Muskauer Faltenbogen Weitere Aktionen: zwei Sommerschulen, zwei Konferenzen. Projektergebnisse: funktionierendes Netzwerk, das in neuen kleineren und größeren Projekten weiterlebt, GECON-Webportal als Basis zur Promotion von Veranstaltungen, Publizität, gemeinsames Strategiepapier, Broschüre zu den im Team erlangten Erkenntnissen.
