Ziel des Projekts ist es, das Interesse an Naturwissenschaften und Technik bei Schüler/-innen der teilnehmenden Schulen sowie bei Lehrpersonen deutlich und langfristig zu erhöhen. Um dies zu erreichen, wird das Projekt Industieunternehmen, Schulen und Hochschulen zusammenbringen. Das Projekt „MINT macht Schule“ soll Schüler/-innen für MINT-Fächer (Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften, Technik) begeistern, Industrieunternehmen mit Schulen und Hochschulen vernetzen und ein innovatives und nachhaltiges fachdidaktisches MINT-Begleitprogramm für Oberstufenzentren (CH) und Schulen der Sekundarstufe I (Mittelschulen, A) in der Alpenrhein-Bodensee-Region entwickeln und erproben. Schüler/-innen werden grundlegend und nachhaltig motiviert, indem Industrieunternehmen ihnen konkret zeigen, wo MINT-Wissen in der Praxis nützlich ist und welche interessanten beruflichen Möglichkeiten daraus resultieren. Lehrpersonen erhalten praktische Eindrücke von MINT-Anwendungen, welche es ihnen ermöglichen, Schüler/-innen besser zu motivieren. Hochschulen und Schulen werden gemeinsame Umsetzungen im Unterricht planen sowie gemeinsam die Laborausstattung der Schulen optimieren. Es wird eine Austauschplattform erstellt, um die beteiligten Schulen, Unternehmen und Hochschulen zu vernetzen. In Kooperation der PH St. Gallen mit der PH Vorarlberg werden nachhaltige Lösungsstrategien entwickelt, um den Mangel an MINT-Fachkräften zu verringern. Fachexpertisen werden gebündelt, Netzwerke ausgedehnt, um die lokalen Eigentümlichkeiten der Bildungslandschaft in den MINT-Bereichen besser zu verstehen und deren notwendige Entwicklung nachhaltig zu begleiten. Dieses Entwicklungsprojekt fügt sich in die bereits lancierte MINT-Initiative des schweizerischen Partners ein und unterstützt die MINT-Initiative und die Wissenschaftsstrategie des Landes Vorarlberg. Der Erfolg des Wirtschaftsstandortes Bodenseeraum basiert auf gut ausgebildeten Fachkräften, besonders in den Bereichen Technik und Naturwissenschaften. Schüler/-innen haben aber kaum Interesse für Wissenschaft und Technik und für eine entsprechende Berufskarriere. Nur 9 % der Jugendlichen in der Schweiz planen eine Laufbahn als Ingenieur/in oder in ICT-Berufen (OECD, PISA in Focus, 2012, 14). In Österreich haben 40 % der Industrieunternehmen Probleme, genügend Fachkräfte im Bereich Technik & Produktion zu beschäftigen und 54 % haben Probleme, genügend Hochqualifizierte für Forschung und Entwicklung zu finden. Es besteht also dringender Handlungsbedarf. Im Rahmen dieses Projekts werden ein spezifisches MINT-Begleitprogramm für Schulen entwickelt, 10 Schulen laufend beraten, deren Lehrpersonen aus- und weitergebildet, enge Partnerschaften mit 10 Industrieunternehmen etabliert und die Einstellung von Schüler/-innen und Lehrpersonen zu MINT-Themen vor und nach diesen Maßnahmen evaluiert.

Description (EN):

The “MINT in schools” project is intended to inspire pupils with regard to MINT subjects (mathematics, information technology, natural science and technology), to network industrial companies with schools and universities, and to develop and test the innovative and ongoing didactic MINT support programme for sixth form centres (CH) and secondary schools (middle schools, Austria) in the Alpine Rhine / Lake Constance region. Pupils are essentially motivated in the long term, in that industrial companies show them specifically where MINT knowledge is useful in practice, along with the interesting professional opportunities that might result from this. Teaching staff gain practical impressions of MINT applications, enabling them to better motivate pupils. Universities and schools will jointly plan how to implement this in lessons as well as jointly optimising laboratory equipment in schools. An exchange platform will be created to network participating schools, companies and universities. In a cooperation between PH St. Gallen and PH Vorarlberg, lasting solutions are being developed to address the lack of MINT specialists. Technical experts are being brought together and networks are being expanded to better understand the local characteristics of the educational environment in the MINT areas and what is required to support their development in the long term. This development project can be integrated into the MINT initiative of the Swiss partner, which has already been launched and which supports the MINT initiative and science strategy of the state of Vorarlberg. The success of the Lake Constance economic area is based on well-educated specialists, particularly in the fields of technology and the sciences. However, pupils demonstrate little interest in science and technology as a relevant professional career. Only 9% of young people in Switzerland are planning a career as an engineer or in the ICT professions (OECD, PISA in Focus, 2012, 14). In Austria, 40% of industrial companies are having problems employing sufficient numbers of specialists in the field of technology and production, and 54% are finding it problematic to employ enough highly qualified people in research and development. There is therefore an urgent need for action. In the context of this project, a specific MINT support programme is being developed for schools, and 10 schools are being advised on an ongoing basis. The teaching staff in these schools are also being trained or further trained, close partnerships are being established with 10 industrial companies and the attitude of pupils and teaching staff is being evaluated with regard to MINT topics before and after these measures.

Dieses Projekt dient dazu, Schülerinnen und Schüler für MINT-Fächer (Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften, Technik) nachhaltig zu begeistern und im Idealfall einen Berufswunsch zu wecken. Damit leistet das Projekt einen Beitrag zum Angebot an MINT-Fachkräften, die in der Region dringend benötigt werden. Im Projekt MINT macht Schule“ wurde mit längerfristigen Partnerschaften zwischen Wirtschaftsunternehmen und Schule ein Programm entwickelt, mit dem die Begeisterung von Schülerinnen und Schülern für MINT-Fächer (Mathematik, Informatik, Naturwissenschaften, Technik) langfristig gesteigert werden kann. Dadurch, dass die Schülerinnen und Schüler konkret sehen, wie Themen aus den MINT-Fächern im täglichen Einsatz in einem Unternehmen relevant sind, erhöht sich ihre Bereitschaft, sich auch in der Schule mit diesen MINT-Fächern zu befassen. Konkret wurden in Vorarlberg und St. Gallen 15 mehrjährige Partnerschaften zwischen Schulen und Industrieunternehmen (bzw. kleinen Wirtschaftsbetrieben) etabliert und vertraglich gefestigt. Innerhalb dieser Partnerschaften gab es zahlreiche Aktionen, an denen Schülerinnen und Schüler mit den Unternehmen zusammenkamen, deren Produktionsstätten und Lehrlingsausbildungsstätten besichtigt haben und in den Betrieb mit kleinen Aufgaben eingebunden wurden. Dabei konnten die Schülerinnen und Schüler viele interessante und konkrete Tätigkeiten aus dem internen Betrieb der Unternehmen besichtigen / erleben und daran teilhaben, z.B. Bauen von Werkstücken, Umgang mit Messgeräten und Konstruktionswerkzeugen, Konstruktion und Einsatz von Robotern, und vieles andere mehr. Ein wesentlicher Erfolgsfaktor ist die vertragliche Vereinbarung der Aktivitäten über einen Zeitraum von drei Jahren. Dadurch können von Schule und Partnerbetrieb mehrere Aktivitäten geplant und durchgeführt werden. In eigenen Netzwerktreffen konnten alle beteiligten Schulen und Unternehmen ihre Aktivitäten vorstellen und sich über Erfolgsfaktoren austauschen. Für Lehrpersonen wurde ein grenzüberschreitendes Fortbildungsprogramm durchgeführt, zu dem stets Lehrpersonen beider Länder eingeladen waren und welche von Angehörigen beider beteiligten Hochschulen gemeinsam durchgeführt wurden. Zweimal wurde ein spezieller MINT-Tag, zu den Themenschwerpunkten „Forschendes Lernen“ und „Mathematik“ veranstaltet. Es wurden Seminare und Fortbildungen für Lehrpersonen durchgeführt zu den Themen Werkboxen, naturwissenschaftlich-physikalische Experimente und Einsatz von Kleincomputern. Eine eigene Projekt-Webseite gibt den Projektpartnern und allen Interessierten Auskunft über Weiterbildungsveranstaltungen, Vorträge, Vernetzungstreffen, gemeinsame Aktionen und alle Partnerschaften (http://mintmachtschule.org) Die Erfahrungen aus dem Projekt wurden in einer Broschüre mit Best Practice Beispielen aus exemplarischen Partnerschaften und Aktivitäten publiziert. Die Broschüre ist für Interessierte über die Projekt-Homepage abrufbar. Das Projekt wurde auf internationalen wissenschaftlichen Fachtagungen und Kongressen vorgestellt und mit Experten diskutiert. Die Projektleiter haben entsprechende Artikel für die Scientific Community publiziert. In diesem Projekt wurde speziell auf Gleichstellung von Frauen und Männern, Chancengleichheit und auf soziale Inklusion über Grenzen hinweg geachtet. Dadurch, dass Schülerinnen und Schüler gleichermaßen für MINT-Themen begeistert werden, wurden veraltete Geschlechterrollen und Vorurteile abgebaut.

Achievements (EN):

This project aims to inspire pupils for STEM subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology) and, ideally, to arouse a career wish. Thus, the project contributes to the supply of STEM professionals who are urgently needed in the region. In the project MINT macht Schule" a programme was developed with longer-term partnerships between business enterprises and school to increase the enthusiasm of pupils for STEM subjects (mathematics, computer science, natural sciences, technology) in the long term. The fact that the pupils see concretely how topics from STEM subjects are relevant in daily use in a company increases their willingness to deal with these STEM subjects also at school. More specifically, 15 multi-year partnerships between schools and industrial enterprises (or small business enterprises) were established and contracted in Vorarlberg and St Gallen. Within these partnerships, there have been numerous actions involving pupils and companies whose production facilities and apprenticeships have visited and were involved in the company with small tasks. The students were able to visit/experience and participate in many interesting and concrete activities from the company’s internal operations, e.g. building workpieces, dealing with measuring instruments and construction tools, design and use of robots, and much more. A major success factor is the contractual arrangement of the activities over a period of three years. As a result, several activities can be planned and carried out by the school and partner company. In their own network meetings, all participating schools and companies were able to present their activities and exchange views on success factors. For teachers, a cross-border training programme was carried out, to which teachers from both countries were always invited and which were carried out jointly by members of both participating universities. A special STEM Day was held twice, focusing on “Researching Learning” and “Mathematics”. Seminars and training courses for teachers were conducted on the topics of work boxes, scientific and physical experiments and the use of small computers. A dedicated project website provides the project partners and all interested parties with information about further education events, lectures, networking meetings, joint actions and all partnerships (http://mintmachtschule.org) The experiences from the project were published in a brochure with best practice examples from exemplary partnerships and activities. The brochure is available for interested parties via the project homepage. The project was presented at international scientific conferences and congresses and discussed with experts. The project managers have published corresponding articles for the Scientific Community. This project focused on equality between women and men, equal opportunities and social inclusion across borders. As pupils become equally enthusiastic about STEM topics, obsolete gender roles and prejudices have been reduced.

Expected Results (DE):

Im Projekt werden in den beiden Ländern gemeinsam 10 Schulen intensiv beraten. 20 Lehrpersonen werden involviert sein. 10 Industrieunternehmen mit ihren Lehrlingsbeauftragten werden im Projekt involviert sein. 200 Schüler/-innen werden an Veranstaltungen an Industrieunternehmen teilnehmen. 100 Personen werden an den Tagungen zur wissenschaftlichen Dissemination der Ergebnisse teilnehmen. 50 Personen werden an den Weiterbildungsangeboten teilnehmen.
