Project - New shape and drives for the tourism sector: supporting decision, integrating plans and ensuring sustainability

Description

Description (EN): Shapetourism improves the tourism knowledge framework, providing analysis and operational tools to pinpoint an integrated methodology to shape and drive tourism sustainable growth, particularly for Cultural Destinations. It supports policymakers and private operators to achieve: attractiveness, growth and sustainability, taking into account the major challenges of global competition. Starting from the capitalization of scientific studies and from tourism established patterns, the project gears towards the balance between divergent public and private interests with the final scope to drive tourism development to an holistic, highly operational and sustainable approach. Project provides: 1) Smart Tourism Data System, to arrange recommendations and scenarios, to improve attractiveness and competitiveness of territorial assets. 2) Planning Solutions to tackle territorial assets sustainable exploitation, while balancing conflicts between landscape conservation and tourism growth pressures and tailoring responses to destinations life cycle. 3) ShapeTourism Protocol based on a Participative decisional support system able to create effective synergies and cooperation mechanisms for a responsible coastal and maritime integrated management. Actually, SHAPETOURISM enables to fill up some structural gaps providing: open-data/BigData processing; new sample survey; business ecosystem analysis; DSS leveraging on opportunities/facing risks and providing tools to develope ICZM and MSP.
Expected Results (EN): 1 R1 KNOWLEDGE framework and effective responses : Creation of a Smart Tourism Data System (STDS), for an improved knowledge framework on MED Tourism health and trends, with a particular focus on Cultural Coastal destinations. The STDS represents an innovative observatory, created to support stakeholders and decision makers to arrange policies and recommendations, plan scenarios and improve attractiveness of territorial Med assets within a balanced TOURISM perspective. The data and big data elaboration allows to assess tourism ecosystem business dynamics and trends, provide effective responses to enhance operational capabilities and well to face persistent emerging problems deriving from tourism pressures on a coastal fragile ecosystems.1 R1 KNOWLEDGE framework and effective responses : Creation of a Smart Tourism Data System (STDS), for an improved knowledge framework on MED Tourism health and trends, with a particular focus on Cultural Coastal destinations. Planning solutions are designed: - To define a common approach to coastal and maritime tourism planning and management. - To reduce tourism impact, both locally and transnationally. - To tackle territorial assets sustainable exploitation, balancing conflicts between ecosystem services conservation and tourism growth pressures and tailoring responses to destinations life cycle.3 R3 SHAPETOURISM PROTOCOL : Establishment of a ShapeTourism Protocol generated on the basis of a pretesting of the participative decisional support system PDSS (grounded on the Tourmedassets DSS). The protocol is arranged creating effective synergies and cooperation mechanisms for a responsible coastal and maritime integrated management. It enables the improvement of the tourism business ecosystem sustainability in the long run, as it is based on a participative approach and it leads the testing and capitalization processes of the SITDS, the planning solutions and the PDSS as well.
