Description (EN): EduFootprint intends to raise capacity of owner and managers of public buildings for better management of energy; it will be done considering not just direct energy impacts of buildings (consumption), but also indirect ones (public procurement or general awareness and behavior). Activities will be concentrated in the test and transferability of an integrated energy strategy with a Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) approach in schools, consisting in the elaboration and implementation of energy efficient practices integrated with local Sustainable Energy Action Plans (SEAPS). Transnational action is vital because the project will test the EduFootprint model in different MED countries and it will disseminate the innovative solutions involving public authorities and owners, private sectors and end-users in seven MED regions. The less experienced areas would have the opportunity of acting upon well-proven basis from the pre-existing know-how of other partners, and the model would be test in countries with different ways of public buildings management. The project will allow to cut energy costs for public buildings in MED area. The use of an approach that considers the school in its complete life cycle, assures a multiplying effect of actions, so a sustainable low-carbon citizen lifestyles and educational and cultural growth and promotion of eco-innovation solutions for various stakeholders (students, their families, teachers, public institutions, energy services providers).
Description: EduFootprint entend augmenter la capacité pour une meilleure gestion de l'énergie, faible émission de carbone et l'empreinte environnementale dans les bâtiments de l'école publique, en tenant compte non seulement des impacts directs en énergie, mais aussi indirects (marchés publics, transports). Cela se fera à travers l'élaboration d'une stratégie intégrée de l'énergie avec une approche de cycle de vie pour augmenter la capacité des propriétaires et gestionnaires de bâtiments publics pour élaborer et mettre en œuvre des pratiques efficaces d'énergie intégrés dans les plans d'action pour l'énergie durable local. Action transnationale est vital parce que le projet permettra de tester le modèle dans différents pays MED pour le suivi de la consommation et de la gestion de l'énergie, et il va diffuser les solutions innovantes associant les pouvoirs publics et les propriétaires, le secteur privé et les utilisateurs finaux. Les régions les moins expérimentés auraient la possibilité d'agir sur base éprouvée du savoir-faire des autres partenaires pré-existante, et le modèle serait essai dans les pays avec différents modes de gestion des bâtiments publics. The projet permettra de réduire les émissions de GES et de réduire les coûts de l'énergie pour les bâtiments publics. L'utilisation d'une approche qui considère l'école dans son cycle de vie complet, assure aussi les modes de vie des citoyens durable, la croissance et la promotion éducative, etc.
Expected Results (EN): 1 An innovative model of assessment and management of school buildings that allows to reduce their environmental footprint and to strengthen local SEAPs : The EduFootprint model consists on tools to assess the environmental footprint of schools: an automatic calculator with School Environmental Footprint Guidelines (SEFGs) for owners and managers and a pre-defined package of actions for reducing the footprint (these actions are the sum of activities tested in the past in different previous experiences and other tested at transnational level with this project). The tools will allow to monitor and reduce the environmental footprint of school buildings and as a consequence energy consumption and GHG emissions for a big part of public buildings in MED area. The final scope of the implementation of the EduFootprint model is the elaboration and adoption of energy efficient practices, structured in a school plan that will be integrated with the local Sustainable Energy Action Plan (SEAPs). In this way the project will also support public authorities to better connect these activities, so the link between single school initiatives and actions foreseen in the SEAPs will the reinforced. So in this way SEAPs will be strengthened; their content will be improved with low-cost actions, avoiding refurbishment/retrofitting activities regarding buildings, and increasing the involvement of the school community (students, their family, workers, suppliers), and therefore of citizens, in the achievement of objectives2 Competence of buildings owners and managers to develop and implement energy efficiency practices in public school buildings in the MED area : With the EduFootprint approach owners and managers will be able to assess energy management of buildings and identifying low-cost actions, with a strong involvement of citizens (as said before, through the school community) and to create immediate positive effects. These capacities will be developed thanks to the participation to training courses and project promotion events, and the availability of the tested model and tools. So the project, enhancing the skills of public authorities and school managers to asses, define, adopt and implement sustainable energy plans and lead them to success, obviously contributes to the programme result indicator: school energy efficiency plans will increase and/or related actions will be included in local SEAPs in MED area. Local energy efficiency help desks will be created to achieve this project result. We have already identified the involvement in the project: at least 61 schools based in 39 municipalities, 27 covered by an approved SEAP that will be improved with project actions. In all that municipalities help desk will be activated and the model could be implement in the rest of the cities' school buildings.3 A transnational EduFootprint network of schools to assure the transferability of the model in all the Mediterranean area : The test of the integrated energy strategy with a LCA approach developed by the partnership for its implementation in schools will allow to adapt the EduFootprint model and tools (already existing and just developed an used in a limited local area in Italy) to specific conditions of different MED regions. This will make easier the transferability of the model and spread information about its advantages for schools, public institutions (frequently owners/managers of public buildings as schools) and for the territory. To reinforce the transferability and allow the replication of the approach a transnational EduFootprint network will be created, from the begining with the 61 that we will involve in the Testing. So this will allow the dissemination of the model in all MED area and, for sure, here will be increased the rate of local energy plans and/or the actions included in existing SEAPs.
