Description (EN): The project will address common Latvia’s and Estonia’s cross-border challenges related to social exclusion of women who stay at home with their pre-school-age children, do not participate in labour market and belong to largest ethnic minorities, such as the Russians, Belarusians, Ukrainians and Poles. These women often suffer from a variety of factors, including post-natal depression, limited social circle, the need to perform routine unsatisfying tasks every day, low self-esteem and self-confidence, inability to realize their potential through work or other activities, no income.
The project will create a holistic model for social inclusion of target group representatives (TGRs) through employability, entrepreneurship, volunteering and networking, as well as develop an interactive ICT platform offering mentoring, networking, matchmaking and self-learning possibilities. A total of 14 events will be alternately carried out during the project life-time: Round-table discussions on employment, Entrepreneurship Days “Running own business is an option!” and Networking people-to-people events. Volunteering options will also be provided.
Innovative approach will be applied to networking events (“Turn a simple activity into a business”), Volunteering (“Tell an employer what to do”) and mentoring, which will be organized like a marathon and contain elements of employment and entrepreneurship simulation.
As a result of project activities, social inclusion of TGRs along with their satisfaction level will significantly improve. Having happier self-fulfilled mothers would mean having healthier, stronger and more stable families and, therefore, communities in general. It is expected that 460 TGRs will be influenced by the project and 100-120 stakeholders will be involved in the activities. Thus, better visibility and increased awareness of problems and needs faced by TGRs will also be achieved.

As its main result, project ActiveMoms developed a holistic model for social inclusion of women who stay at home with their pre-school-age children, do not participate in labour market and belong to Latvia’s and Estonia’s largest ethnic minorities. The model aims to support the social integration of target group through employment, entrepreneurship, volunteering and networking and can be used by other organisations supporting similar target groups. All methods used in the model were piloted with the target group.
ActiveMoms also developed an ICT platform which made it possible to find a mentor from another country and get support based on international experience, as well as communicate with a mother from another country and discuss with her the possibilities of a common business. Volunteer opportunities in in both countries were also provided and used by mothers.
Active Moms was a good example of a project where joint activities were implemented for target groups from different countries. Thereby, the cross-border effect was achieved in a very practical way. Project participants (young mothers) were able to compare their situation and possible solutions for social and labour market integration with people in similar situation in neighbouring country. Participation in the cross-border events provided the target group from Latvia and Estonia an opportunity to get to know stakeholders and entrepreneurs from both countries, to learn about the various possibilities for entering the labour market after a significant break, including through starting their own business.
Finally, the cross-border approach allowed the target group representatives to better understand each others’ mentality, differences and similarities and build personal relationships. This has a positive impact on the social inclusion and labour market entry of moms in both countries and contributes to the well-being of their families in the Programme area.

Expected Results (EN): R4.1. Communities with improvements
Expected Outputs (EN): As a result of project activities, social inclusion of women who stay at home with their pre-school-age children, do not participate in labour market and belong to Latvia’s and Estonia’s largest ethnic minorities will be significantly improved.
It is expected that at least 460 TGRs from Riga and Zemgale in Latvia (230 persons) and Kirde-Eesti in Estonia (230 persons) will participate in project activities. Thus, 460 TGRs together with their familities, friends and colleagues will be influenced by the project.
The total number of TGRs involved was calculated the following way:
- 80 TGRs (20 x 4) will take part in round-table discussions on employment;
- 120 TGRs (30 x 4) will attend Entrepreneurship Days;
- 120 TGRs (20 x 6) will participate in networking events;
- 120 TGRs will actively use the ICT platform during the project life-time;
- 20 TGRs (10 x 2) will take advantage of volunteering opportunities.
100-120 stakeholders will be involved in project activities.
Holistic model for social inclusion of TGRs through employment, entrepreneurship, volunteering and networking will be developed, piloted and released for all interested parties. Therefore, relevant organizations, such as educational institutions, municipalities, social services, business support organizations and NGOs will be able to serve the needs of TGRs more effectively.
ICT platform for TGRs will be developed, piloted and updated to the final version based on feedback received.
Better visibility and increased awareness of problems and needs faced by TGRs will be achieved.
Due to the project, communities in Riga, Zemgale and Kirde-Eesti will become stronger, cohesive, healthier and more resilient, as the social and professional well-being of TGRs will increase as a result of a more active engagement in social and work life. Risk of marginalization will be decreased.
