In RESANAT werken zeven kleine en grote bedrijven uit Nederland en Vlaanderen samen met kennisinstelling Deltares en de Openbare Vlaamse Afvalmaatschappij (OVAM) om de herontwikkeling van verontreinigde locaties in Nederland en Vlaanderen te stimuleren. Conventionele sanerings- en beheerstechnieken zijn kostbaar, energie-intensief, langdurig en vergen dikwijls veel grondwater. RESANAT zal inzetten op innovatie van nature-based saneringstechnieken, waarbij planten, micro-organismen, natuurlijke materialen, en wind- en zonne-energie worden ingezet om restverontreiniging te beheersen. Duizenden locaties in Vlaanderen en Nederland die nog met (rest)verontreiniging kampen, zouden dankzij deze vernieuwende technieken op termijn opnieuw duurzaam inzetbaar kunnen worden.

Description (EN):

In RESANAT, seven small and large companies from the Netherlands and Flanders work together with the Deltares knowledge institution and the Public Waste Agency of Flanders (OVAM) to stimulate the redevelopment of contaminated locations in the Netherlands and Flanders. Conventional remediation and management techniques are costly, energy-intensive, long-term and often require a lot of groundwater. RESANAT will focus on innovation in nature-based remediation techniques, in which plants, microorganisms, natural materials, and wind and solar energy are used to control residual pollution. Thousands of locations in Flanders and the Netherlands that are still struggling with (residual) pollution could, thanks to these innovative techniques, become sustainable again in the long term.

Achievements (NL):

Conventionele sanerings- en beheerstechnieken zijn kostbaar, energie-intensief, langdurig en vergen dikwijls veel grondwater. RESANAT zet in op innovatie van nature-based saneringstechnieken, waarbij planten, micro-organismen en natuurlijke materialen en -processen worden ingezet om restverontreiniging te beheersen. Op de drie testlocaties zijn onderzoeken naar het type vervuiling en de verspreiding van deze vervuiling reeds uitgevoerd. Op locatie Carcoke in Zeebrugge (BE) is inmiddels nieuwe beplanting geplaatst en geïnoculeerd in het kader van fytoremediatie. Op locatie Envisan in Gent (BE) werden phytopiles aangelegd, ingezaaid en geïnoculeerd in het kader van fytoremediatie. Op locatie De Lieve in Gent (BE) zijn zelfontworpen reactieve matten geplaatst die vervuiling uit de waterloop houden. Op locatie ’s Gravenmoer in Noord-Brabant (NL) is een duurzame biologische waterzuivering geplaatst als vervanging van de bestaande traditionele zuivering. De 2 anaerobe pilots lopen op dit moment. De komende periode staat in het teken van het monitoren van de effecten. Duizenden locaties in Vlaanderen en Nederland die nog met (rest)verontreiniging kampen, zouden dankzij deze vernieuwende technieken op termijn opnieuw duurzaam inzetbaar kunnen worden.

Conventional remediation and management techniques are costly, energy-intensive, long-lasting and often require a lot of groundwater. RESANAT is committed to innovation in nature-based remediation techniques, using plants, microorganisms and natural materials and processes to control residual contamination. Studies on the type of pollution and the spread of this pollution have already been carried out at the three test sites. On site Carcoke in Zeebrugge (BE) new planting has now been placed and inoculated in the context of phytoremediation. At the Envisan location in Ghent (BE), phytopiles were created, sown and inoculated in the context of phytoremediation. On location De Lieve in Ghent (BE) self-designed reactive mats have been placed that keep pollution out of the watercourse. At location 's Gravenmoer in Noord-Brabant (NL) a sustainable biological water treatment has been placed as a replacement for the existing traditional purification. The two anaerobic pilots are currently running. The coming period will focus on monitoring the effects. Thousands of locations in Flanders and the Netherlands that still suffer from (residual) pollution could in the long run become sustainable again thanks to these innovative techniques.
