TrailGazersBid pretende medir os impactos socioeconómicos do investimento e promoção em trilhos em áreas de património natural. Este projeto visa estabelecer um conjunto comum de indicadores-chave a nível económico, social e ambiental, desenvolver tecnologias e sistemas inovadores para captar as atividades nos trilhos e desenvolver planos para a gestão sustentável dos mesmos. Os principais resultados esperados são a produção de um painel dos trilhos, ferramentas para registar os visitantes e o aumento do número de turistas.

TrailGazersBid pretende evaluar los impactos socioeconómicos de la inversión y la promoción en caminos en áreas de patrimonio natural. Este proyecto pretende establecer un conjunto de indicadores clave a nivel económico, social y ambiental, desarrollar tecnologías y sistemas innovadores para captar las actividades en los senderos y desarrollar planes para la gestión sostenible de los mismos. Los principales resultados esperados son la producción de un cuadro de mando, herramientas digitales para registrar a los visitantes y el aumento del número de turistas en el Atlántico.

TrailGazersBid vise à mesurer les impacts sociaux économiques générés par la valorisation des sentiers de randonnée dans les zones de patrimoine naturel. Le projet a pour objectif d’établir un ensemble commun d’indicateurs de performance, développer des outils innovants pour mesurer la fréquentation sur les sentiers et de mettre en œuvre des programmes pour une gestion durable. Les principaux résultats attendus sont la création d´un tableau de bord des sentiers, des outils numériques pour cibler les visiteurs et finalement une croissance du nombre de touristes sur la façade Atlantique

The Atlantic Area sparsely populated regions rely heavily on the economic spin-offs from tourism to generate employment and wealth for these communities, resulting in significant investment into the development of trails infrastructure that capitalise on the region´s rich natural and cultural heritage. However, there has been limited research into quantifying the economic and social return from such investments or policy on how to promote and sustainably manage these assets for future generations. TrailGazersBid will measure socio-economic impacts from investing & promoting trails in areas of rich natural heritage in the Atlantic Area. The project will establish a common set of economic, social & environmental key indicators, develop innovative technologies & systems to capture trails activity, as well as plans to sustainably manage trails, via a ‘Trails Dashboard’. TrailGazersBid will explore how new technologies, such as Go Procameras, drones and Talking Heads can be used to showcase trails to Atlantic tourist visitors via virtual experiences, aiming at developping Destination Management Plans to preserve natural and cultural assets for future generations.

This results in a significant investment in the development of trails infrastructure that capitalises on the region’s rich natural and cultural heritage. However, there has been limited research into quantifying the economic and social return from such investments or policy on how to promote and sustainably manage these assets for future generations. The TRAILGAZERSBID project measured socio-economic impacts from investing and promoting trails through Trail User Surveys and this data will be used to inform the trail multiplier. A trails dashboard will also inform policy makers with real time data in relation to future development options. The project has developed digital marketing and virtual tourism materials to encourage both domestic and overseas walkers, cyclists and outdoor enthusiasts to these sites and surrounding catchment areas. It has also developed bottom up Community Trail Plans and Community Trail Ambassadors to ensure a better future trail management and protection of its environmental assets, and Business to Consumer Initiatives to encourage visitors to explore the surrounding towns and villages. Several events have taken place on each pilot trail to engage with the local communities and key stakeholders. A series of informative Trail Care Packs were produced and the Lost Stories of each trail were captured for future generations in an interactive consumer facing app. TRAILGAZERSBID impacted policy makers with a framework that identifies the required levels of investment, programming and management required to assist trails to become more economically and socially driven, thus increasing and attracting more visitors to the Atlantic regions. Expected Results (EN):

TrailGazersBid will target an increase of 200 visitors per annum in each region through monitoring, sensors and survey, targeting local communities, business networks & associations, local & regional environmental & tourism agencies, transnational, regional & local development agencies, local government bodies, policy makers, Atlantic Tourist visitors. The project will impact on policy makers with a framework that identifies the required levels of investment, programming and management required to assist trails to become more economically and socially driven, thus increasing and attracting more visitors to the Atlantic regions.

Expected Outputs (EN):

• 1 pilot implemented in 4 partner regions; • 2 technical research publications on ‘Using technology measure the impact of investing in trails’, ‘Developing virtual trail tourism in AA regions’, 5 case studies on economic value of trails in AA regions; • 1 ‘trail dashboard’ visualising real time trail metrics, 2 trail apps on enhancing virtual trail experiences & developing asset management tools, 5 bespoke destination management plans,• 5000 online audiences & visitors in the 4 regions;
