Bien que fonctionnels pour de nombreux usages, les plastiques exercent une pression considérable sur nos ressources environnementales. Il est ainsi important d'augmenter le taux de leur recyclage, nécessitant de leur trouver des débouchés techniques suffisants et une valeur économique justifiant leur réemploi. En parallèle, la fabrication additive polymère connaît un regain d’intérêt notable, avec la démocratisation des machines par dépose de fil fondu et le développement récent de technologies innovantes en la matière. Le projet DOUDOU s'inscrit dans ce contexte : son objectif est de proposer des solutions techniques pour le recyclage des plastiques par impression 3D par une approche transfrontalière globale. Il associe ainsi 4 centres de recherche aux compétences et réseaux industriels complémentaires.

Although functional for many uses, plastics exert considerable pressure on our environmental resources. It is therefore important to increase their recycling rate, which means that sufficient technical outlets and a high enough economic value are found to justify their reuse. At the same time, polymer additive manufacturing is experiencing a significant revival of interest, with the democratisation of molten wire deposit machines and the recent development of innovative technologies in this field. The DOUDOU project is part of this context: its objective is to propose technical solutions for the recycling of plastics via 3D printing using a global cross-border approach. It does so by creating a partnership between 4 research centres with complementary skills and industrial networks.

Ondanks hun functionele nut voor tal van toepassingen leggen kunststoffen een aanzienlijke druk op onze hulpbronnen en het milieu. Het is dus belangrijk hun recyclagepercentage op te drijven, maar dat vereist voldoende technische afzetmogelijkheden en een economische waarde die hun hergebruik rechtvaardigt. Tegelijkertijd neemt de belangstelling voor de additieve fabricage van polymeren weer sterk toe, met de democratisering van machines met afzetting van gesmolten draad en de recente ontwikkeling van innovatieve technologieën in dit gebied. Het project DOUDOU past in deze context. Het doel is technische oplossingen voor te stellen voor de recyclage van kunststoffen door 3D printen met een globale, grensoverschrijdende aanpak. Het verenigt vier onderzoekscentra met complementaire competenties en industriële netwerken.

Expected Results (FR):

Les résultats attendus sont (i) l’identification, dans la zone couverte, de gisements pertinents, (ii) le développement de méthodologies de séparation, broyage, compoundage/formulation pour redonner à ces matériaux des fonctionnalités et donc de la valeur économique pour certains marchés de niches (iii) la mise en place d’un réseau transfrontalier de partenaires industriels intégrant l’ensemble des filières de collecte, de tri, de recyclage et de compoundage, PME et TPE plasturgistes (spécialistes ou utilisateurs de technologies d’impression 3D polymères) ou utilisateurs finaux. 8 entreprises bénéficieront d'un soutien concret, dont deux d'entre elles pour introduire des nouveaux produits.

Expected Results (EN):

The expected outcomes are (i) the identification of relevant supplies in the area covered (ii) the development of separation, grinding, compounding/formulation methodologies to restore the functionalities and therefore the economic value of these materials for certain niche markets (iii) the establishment of a cross-border network of industrial partners integrating all collection, sorting, recycling and compounding sectors, plasturgist SMEs and VSEs (specialists or users of 3D polymer printing technologies) or end users. Eight companies will be eligible for concrete support, two of which to introduce new products.

Expected Results (NL):

De verwachte resultaten zijn (i) de identificatie, in het betrokken gebied, van relevante afvalstromen, (ii) de ontwikkeling van methoden voor de scheiding, het malen en de compounding/formulering om deze materialen functionaliteit en dus een economische waarde te geven voor bepaalde nichemarkten en (iii) de oprichting van een grensoverschrijdend netwerk van industriële partners dat alle inzamelings-, sorteer-, recyclage- en compoundingketens, micro-ondernemingen en kmo’s die kunststoffen verwerken (specialisten of gebruikers van 3D-printingtechnologieën met polymeren) of eindgebruikers omvat. Acht ondernemingen zullen concrete steun krijgen, twee ervan voor de introductie van nieuwe producten.

Expected Outputs (FR): Accompagner des entreprises transfrontalières dans les secteurs du recyclage plastique. Le projet contribuera à pérenniser les collaborations entre l'IMT Lille Douai et Armines avec CTP et Certech. L'objectif est d'aboutir à un transfert industriel de chaque côté de la frontière.

Expected Outputs (EN): Supporting cross-border companies in the plastic recycling sectors. The project will help further foster cooperation between the ITM Lille Douai and Armines with CTP and Certech. The aim is to secure an industrial transfer on both sides of the border.

Expected Outputs (NL): Begeleiding van grensoverschrijdende ondernemingen in de sectoren van recyclage van kunststoffen. Het project zal bijdragen aan de voortzetting van de samenwerking tussen het IMT Lille Douai en Armines met CTP en Certech. Het doel is een industriële overdracht aan beide zijden van de grens.
