La culture de la pomme de terre revêt une importance spécifique dans la zone transfrontalière, alimentant toute une filière commerciale (producteurs, obtenteurs, négociants, sociétés phytopharmaceutiques et industries de transformation). Pour assurer la durabilité de cette production des points de vue compétitif et environnemental, il est important de maîtriser les pathogènes fongiques foliaires. Le projet SYTRANSPOM, en rassemblant l’expertise transfrontalière de quatre partenaires, ambitionne de protéger les cultures des pathogènes fongiques en élaborant un diagnostic précoce des infestations. Le projet prévoit la création d’une plateforme de collaboration transfrontalière afin de centraliser des informations existantes et de l’enrichir de données nouvelles issues des expérimentations de terrain, des résultats expérimentaux de laboratoire et de données provenant de l’agriculture de précision ; (2) le développement de nouvelles méthodes moléculaires (méthodes de détection et analyses quantitatives) pour caractériser les pathogènes fongiques du feuillage ; (3) la mise en place d’essais expérimentaux en champ pour obtenir un diagnostic précoce des infections, le suivi du développement des maladies et l’amélioration des méthodes de protection ; (4) le développement d’un système complet d’aide à la décision (SAD) intégrant les systèmes d’avertissement de plusieurs pathogènes foliaires. Le projet fait appel à des équipes d’agronomes de terrain, de spécialistes en phytopathologie, en biologie moléculaire et d’informaticiens.

Potato crops are of particular importance in the cross-border area, feeding an entire commercial chain (producers, breeders, traders, plant protection companies and processing industries). To ensure the competitive and environmental sustainability of this production, it is important to control foliar fungal pathogens. By bringing together the cross-border expertise of four partners, the SYTRANSPOM project aims to protect crops from fungal pathogens by developing an early diagnosis of infestations. The project provides for the creation of a platform for cross-border collaboration to centralise existing information and enrich it with new data from experiments in the field, experimental laboratory results and data from precision agriculture; (2) the development of new molecular methods (detection methods and quantitative analyses) to characterise fungal leaf pathogens; (3) the implementation of experimental field trials to obtain early diagnosis of infections, monitoring of disease development and improvement of protection methods; (4) the development of a comprehensive decision support system (DSS) integrating warning systems for several leaf pathogens. The project involves teams of field agronomists, plant pathologists, molecular biologists and computer scientists.

De aardappelteelt speelt een belangrijke rol in de grensstreek. Hij voedt een hele handelsketen (producenten, kopers, onderhandelaars, fytofarmaceutische ondernemingen en transformatiebedrijven). Om de duurzaamheid van deze productie in termen van concurrentievermogen en milieu te verzekeren, is het belangrijk de pathogenen die bladschimmel veroorzaken te beheersen. Het project SYTRANSPOM verzamelt de grensoverschrijdende expertise van vier partners met de ambitie de teelten te beschermen tegen schimmelpathogenen door middel van een vroegtijdige diagnose van de besmetting. Het project voorziet de creatie van een grensoverschrijdend samenwerkingsplatform om de bestaande informatie te centraliseren en aan te vullen met nieuwe gegevens, afkomstig van experimenten op het terrein, de resultaten van laboratoriumexperimenten en gegevens van de precisielandbouw; (2) de ontwikkeling van nieuwe moleculaire methoden (detectiemethoden en kwantitatieve analyses) om de schimmelpathogenen van de bladeren te kenschetsen; (3) de implementatie van experimentele tests op de velden om een vroegtijdige diagnose van de besmettingen te verkrijgen, de opvolging van de ontwikkeling van de ziekten en de verbetering van de beschermingsmethoden; (4) de ontwikkeling van een volledig beslissingsondersteunend systeem met verwittigingsmechanismen voor meerdere bladpathogenen. Het project doet een beroep op teams van agronomen op het terrein, experts in fytopathologie en moleculaire biologie, en informatici.

Achievements (FR):

Durant les quatre premières années du projet, des résultats ont été collectés sur le terrain et en labo, et ont été progressivement analysés. Certaines tendances ont pu être retirées et les résultats ont été expliqués et partagés entre tous les partenaires. Les résultats sont disponibles sur la plateforme collaborative du projet (SharePoint hébergé́ par INAGRO) et seront rendus publics dès que possible après leur confirmation. D'autres documents ont déjà̀ été partagés sur la plate-forme comme les PV de réunions, PDF de posters, etc... Les premiers résultats consolidés pour les trois versants (2018 et 2019) ont fait l'objet d'une publication dans la revue Phytoma (n° 731, février 2020) : (1) les traitements fongicides trop précoces (effectués avant le 8 ou le 20 août en 2018, dates optimales du premier traitement, déterminées par le modèle d'avertissement) n'ont pas été utiles, apparition très tardive des symptômes de l'Alternariose, et en particulier A. solani (quelques symptômes caractéristiques observés en fin de saison, début septembre) ; (2) tous les modes d'action fongicides (contact, systémique, préventif ou curatif) ont montré́ des efficacités comparables sur les 3 versants ; (3) une apparition aussi tardive de la maladie ne permet pas de voir un effet significatif sur les rendements, le calibrage ou la teneur en matière sèche des tubercules. Les résultats comparables pour les trois versants (obtenus en 2018, 2019 et 2020), confirment le caractère secondaire de la maladie et l'inutilité́ des traitements avant le mois d'août (dans la grande majorité́ des cas). Les résultats de la campagne 2021 ont été analysés. Les partenaires ont participé́ à différents événements (comme les salons Potato Europe, Qualipom, journée technique pomme de terre, colloques, séminaires,...) afin de présenter le projet et la problématique des maladies fongiques foliaires de la pomme de terre (et plus particulièrement l'Alternariose). Des visites de champ d'essais ou des coins de hangars ont également été organisées afin de présenter cette problématique. Un événement de communication sur le projet Sytranspom a été organisé lors de l'événement Potato Europe. Le premier comité́ de consultation du projet a eu lieu le 17 décembre 2019 à la Chambre d'agriculture Nord-Pas-de-Calais à Lorgies en France. Ce comité́ a permis d'exposer et d'expliquer les premiers résultats de recherche pour les années 2018 et 2019 à un public de professionnels du terrain. Des échanges ont également eu lieu entre les partenaires du projet afin d'améliorer certaines techniques de laboratoire (détection précoce, quantification, identification des souches). Les événements (réunions, colloques, ...) de 2020 et 2021 ont dû être annulés à cause de la pandémie de Coronavirus. Un premier ringtest a été organisé entre laboratoires et les échanges de protocoles sont toujours en cours. Ils ont été testés lors de la saison de culture 2020 et un deuxième ringtest a été organisé afin d'améliorer les conclusions. Les analyses de ce deuxième ringtest ont eu lieu au 6ème semestre et un troisième ringtest a été organisé et analysé au 7ème semestre. Pour résumer, grâce à la mise en commun des informations transfrontalières, via la création d'une plateforme collaborative (SharePoint), les partenaires ont pu comparer leurs observations sur les trois versants Interreg (France, Wallonie, Flandre) durant quatre années. Les résultats obtenus ont permis de mettre en évidence plusieurs points : - dans les trois versants, est constatée une apparition tardive (généralement après le 15 août) des symptômes attribués à la présence d'Alternaria solani sur les feuilles de pomme de terre ; - différentes espèces des sections Alternaria et Porri ont été identifiées en France, ce qui suggère que l'Alternariose pourrait être provoquée par plusieurs espèces du genre Alternaria ; - des résistances à tous les modes d'action fongicides (utilisés dans les essais) sont observées en Flandre, ainsi que la présence de phénotypes avec double résistance ; - les modèles offrent des informations pertinentes et doivent être affinés pour proposer un ou des traitements fongicides adaptés/efficaces à appliquer au moment opportun. L'efficacité́ des modèles repose également sur les données de captages de spores dans l'air et le monitoring de la maladie, données qui peuvent alimenter ces outils d'aide à la décision via la plateforme d'échanges transfrontalière.

Achievements (EN):

During the first four years of the project, results were collected in the field and in the lab, and gradually analysed. Some trends could be removed and the results explained and shared among all partners. The results are available on the project’s collaborative platform (SharePoint hosted by Inagro) and will be made public as soon as possible after their confirmation. Other documents have already shared on the platform such as meeting minutes, PDF posters, etc. The first consolidated results for the three sides (2018 and 2019) were published in Phytoma (No. 731, February 2020): (1) Too early fungicidal treatments (performed before August 8 or 20 in 2018, optimal dates of the first treatment, determined by the warning model) have not been useful, very late onset of symptoms of Alternariosis, and in particular A. solani (some characteristic symptoms observed at the end of the season, early September); (2) all fungicidal modes of action (contact, systemic, preventive or curative) have shown comparable efficacy on the 3 sides; (3) such a late onset of the disease does not show a significant effect on yields, sizing or dry matter content of tubers. The comparable results for the three sides (obtained in 2018, 2019 and 2020) confirm the secondary nature of the disease and the uselessness of treatments before August (in the vast majority of cases). The results of the 2021 campaign were analysed. The partners participated in various events (such as Potato Europe, Qualipom, potato technical day, symposia, seminars, etc.) in order to present the project and the problem of leaf fungal diseases of potatoes (especially Alternariosis). Test field visits or hangar corners have also been organised to present this issue. A communication event on the Sytranspom a e-te” project is organised during the Potato Europe event. The first consultation committee of the project took place on 17 December 2019 at the Chamber of Agriculture Nord-Pas-de-Calais in Lorgies in France. This committee allowed to exhibit and explain the first research results for the years 2018 and 2019 to an audience of field professionals. Exchanges were also held between the project partners in order to improve certain laboratory techniques (early detection, quantification, identification of strains). The events (meetings, symposia,...) of 2020 and 2021 had to be cancelled due to the Coronavirus pandemic. A first ringtest organised between laboratories and protocol exchanges are still ongoing. They tested during the 2020 growing season and a second ringtest organised to improve the conclusions. The analyses of this second ringtest took place in the 6th semester and a third ringtest organised and analysed in the 7th semester. To summarise, thanks to the sharing of cross-border information, through the creation of a collaborative platform (SharePoint), the partners were able to compare their observations on the three sides Interreg (France, Wallonia, Flanders) over four years. The results made it possible to highlight several points: — in all three slopes there is a late appearance (usually after 15 August) of the symptoms attributed to the presence of Alternaria solani on potato leaves; — different species in the sections Alternaria and Porri have been identified in France, suggesting that Alternariosis could be caused by several species of the genus Alternaria; — resistances to all fungicidal modes of action (used in the tests) are observed in Flanders, as well as the presence of phenotypes with double resistance; — models offer relevant information and need to be refined to offer suitable/effective fungicidal treatment(s) to be applied at the appropriate time. The effectiveness of the models is also based on spore capture data in the air and disease monitoring, which can feed into these decision-making tools via the cross-border exchange platform.

Les opérateurs organiseront des journées d'informations techniques et de vulgarisation à destination des professionnels du monde agricole pour présenter les nouvelles pratiques phytosanitaires. Chaque année, une session de formation technique sera organisée conjointement et dispensée dans chacune des régions. Le principal résultat sera la création de la plateforme de collaboration transfrontalière, créant une base de donnée commune. Un système complet d'aide à la décision sera réalisé dans les trois versants. Au ttoal, 2420 entreprises bénéficieront des avancées du projet.

Expected Results (EN):

Operators will organise technical information and extension days for professionals in the agricultural sector to present new plant health practices. Each year, a technical training session will be jointly organised and delivered in each of the regions. The main result will be the creation of the cross-border collaboration platform, creating a common database. A complete decision support system will be implemented on all three sides. A total of 2420 companies stand to gain from the outcome of the project.

De operatoren zullen technische informatie- en popularisatiedagen voor professionelen uit de landbouwsector organiseren om de nieuwe fytosanitaire praktijken voor te stellen. Elk jaar zal in elk van de regio’s gezamenlijk een technische opleidingssessie worden georganiseerd en gegeven . Het voornaamste resultaat zal de creatie zijn van een grensoverschrijdend samenwerkingsplatform met een gemeenschappelijke gegevensbank. In de drie regio’s komt er een volledig systeem voor beslissingsondersteuning. In totaal zullen 2420 ondernemingen van de vooruitgang van het project kunnen profiteren.

Expected Outputs (FR):

L'expérience du travail collectif des 4 opérateurs du projet constituera un tremplin pour répondre à d'autres appels à projet et pérenniser la synergie transfrontalière entamée. Des entreprises ou associations agricoles seront invitées à participer au comité de concertation et de valorisation une fois par an. Leur apport d'informations de terrain seront destinées à assurer l'adéquation de la plateforme avec les préoccupations des agriculteurs. Une base de donnée commune sera créée avec la plateforme. Les pathogènes phongiques seront détectés grâce à des méthodes de biologie moléculaire.

Expected Outputs (EN):

The experience of the collective work of the 4 project operators will serve as a springboard to respond to other calls for projects and build on the cross-border synergy initiated. Agricultural companies or associations will be invited to participate in the consultation and development committee once a year. Their contribution of information from the field will be aimed at ensuring that the platform is relevant to farmers' concerns. A common database will be created with the platform. Phonological pathogens will be detected using molecular biology methods.

De ervaring van het gezamenlijke werk van de vier operatoren van het project zal een springplank vormen om te antwoorden op andere projectoproepen en de gecreëerde grensoverschrijdende synergie een blijvend karakter te geven. Landbouwondernemingen of -verenigingen zullen worden uitgenodigd om eenmaal per jaar deel te nemen aan het overleg- en valorisatiecomité. Hun inbreng van informatie van het terrein zal bijdragen tot het afstemmen van het platform op de noden van de landbouwers. Er komt een gemeenschappelijke gegevensbank met het platform. De schimmelpathogenen zullen worden gedetecteerd met methoden uit de moleculaire biologie.
