L’ensemble du bassin Haut de France-Wallonie-Flandre est une région riche en activités agricole et agroalimentaire. Cependant, ces dernières années, le développement et la pérennité de la filière viande sont mis à mal. L'une des mesures les plus contraignantes provient de l’interdiction de l’usage d’antibiotiques/facteurs de croissance dans les élevages. De plus, les consommateurs recherchent en priorité des produits de qualité (organoleptique et nutritionnelle mais aussi indemne de résidus quelconques) sans toutefois toujours pouvoir accepter une hausse conséquente du coût de ces aliments. Pour essayer de répondre à cette double contrainte, le projet ADAGIO propose de créer et de mettre en évidence l’impact d’une solution nutritionnelle permettant de favoriser la mise en place de mécanismes intestinaux conduisant à une bonne santé digestive chez l’animal de rente. Le premier objectif est la mise à disposition de cette solution pour l’alimentation animale mais aussi d’étudier la possibilité que cette solution puisse être la base de compléments alimentaires à destination humaine, le bassin France-Wallonie Flandre étant également une des régions où la prévalence des pathologies digestives figure parmi les plus élevées d’Europe.

In het hele bekken Hauts-de-France-Wallonië-Vlaanderen zijn de landbouw- en de agrovoedingsactiviteiten sterk vertegenwoordigd. De laatste jaren komen de ontwikkeling en de duurzaamheid van de vleessector echter in het gedrang. Een van de meest beperkende maatregelen komt voort uit het verbod op het gebruik van antibiotica en groeibevorderaars in de kwekerijen. Bovendien zoeken de consumenten vooral naar kwaliteitsproducten (organoleptische en nutritioneel, maar ook vrij van residuen), zonder evenwel bereid te zijn hiervoor een hogere prijs te betalen. Om te proberen te antwoorden op deze dubbele beperking, stelt het project ADAGIO voor een nutritionele oplossing te creëren en de impact ervan te bewijzen die het mogelijk maakt de implementatie van darmmechanismen te bevorderen die leiden tot een gezonde spijsvertering bij gebruiksdieren. Het eerste doel is deze oplossing voor diervoeders ter beschikking te stellen, maar ook de mogelijkheid te bestuderen dat deze oplossing de basis kan vormen voor voedingssupplementen voor de mens. Het bekken Frankrijk-Wallonië-Vlaanderen is immers ook een van de regio’s met de hoogste prevalentie van spijsverteringsziekten van Europa.

The entire Haut de France-Wallonia-Flanders basin is a region rich in agricultural and agri-food activities. However, in recent years, the development and sustainability of the meat sector has been compromised. One of the most restrictive measures comes from the ban on the use of antibiotics/growth factors in livestock farms. In addition, consumers are primarily looking for quality products (organoleptic and nutritional but also free of any residues) but are not always willing to accept a significant increase in the cost of these foods. To try to respond to this double constraint, the ADAGIO project proposes to create and highlight the impact of a nutritional solution to promote the implementation of intestinal mechanisms leading to good digestive health in livestock. The first objective is to make this solution available for animal feed but also to study the possibility that this solution could be the basis for food supplements for human use, as the France-Wallonia Flanders basin is also one of the regions with the highest prevalence of digestive diseases in Europe.

Le projet ADAGIO consiste à proposer une solution nutritionnelle composée d’ingrédients aux effets bénéfiques complémentaires pour améliorer l’état sanitaire des animaux de rente en améliorant leur santé digestive. Ce projet ambitionne également d’étudier la possibilité d’utiliser cette solution pour une consommation humaine sous forme de compléments alimentaires pour le même objectif d’améliorer la santé digestive. Parmi les opérateurs du projet, la société Sanluc fournit les produits et apporte sa connaissance de ceux-ci ainsi que du marché associé, UniLaSalle assure un certain nombre d’analyses et cordonne le projet en impliquant l’université de Gand qui pilote et héberge les essais sur le porc et la société Lilloise Genoscreen qui porte les analyses sur le microbiote. Au cours des semestres précédents, le travail des différents opérateurs du consortium a consisté à définir dans un premier temps les caractéristiques physico-chimiques des composants de la solution et ceci pour les molécules prises individuellement et en mélange. A ce stade ce travail doit être achevé pour le mélange et notamment pour définir si les propriétés du mélange ne sont pas altérées par rapport aux propriétés des molécules seules. Ce travail de caractérisation a été couplé à une double évaluation des propriétés biologiques de la solution in vitro et in vivo. In vitro le travail a consisté jusque-là à définir et à mettre en place les modèles d’étude, à savoir un modèle de coculture de cellules reproduisant les conditions intestinales et un modèle d’étude de l’impact de la solution nutritionnelle sur la croissance de souches bactériennes représentatives du microbiote. In vivo, le projet consiste en une évaluation sur 2 espèces d’animaux de rente : le porc et le poulet. Les évaluations sur le porc ont été réalisées entre octobre et décembre 2021. Les analyses moléculaires issus de cet essai sont en cours, tandis que les essais sur le poulet sont programmés. Plusieurs actions de valorisation ont été mises en place, que ce soit au niveau scientifique (participation à des congrès) ou au niveau du grand public et des professionnels du secteur (participation à un salon professionnel et communication via les réseaux sociaux). Au cours du semestre de janvier à juin 2022, le travail s’est poursuivi sur les différents aspects du projet. Les analyses physico-chimiques ont permis de montrer que lorsque les composants de la solution nutritionnelle sont présents ensembles, les caractéristiques des molécules prises individuellement sont conservées. Il n’y a donc pas de dégradation lorsqu’on assemble les différents composants de la solution. L’analyse des propriétés de la solution nutritionnelle se poursuit in vitro et in vivo. In vitro le modèle de culture cellulaire est maintenant au point et le prochain semestre devrait permettre d’avoir des résultats sur l’impact cellulaire des composants de la solution. In vitro également des analyses sont en cours pour mesurer l’impact de la solution et de ses composants sur la croissance de certaines bactéries représentatives de celles présentes au sein de l’intestin. Ces résultats seront à mettre en rapport avec les résultats in vivo sur les animaux. Après les essais réalisés sur le porc au semestre précédent, les analyses sur les échantillons collectés sont en cours par différents opérateurs du projet. Enfin, un certain nombre de communications scientifiques ou de participations à des congrès permettant une mise en avant du projet ont été réalisées ou sont planifiés pour le prochain semestre. Les résultats du projet seront également mis en avant grâce aux outils de communication comme le site internet qui est aujourd’hui disponible (https://www.unilasalle.fr/projet-adagio) et qui décrit le projet et permet de retrace ses actualités. Enfin pour le prochain semestre, des rencontres entre les membres du projet et ouvert à des personnes extérieures au projet sont en préparation.

The ADAGIO project consists of proposing a nutritional solution composed of ingredients with complementary beneficial effects to improve the health of farm animals by improving their digestive health. This project also aims to explore the possibility of using this solution for human consumption in the form of dietary supplements for the same objective of improving digestive health. Among the operators of the project, Sanluc supplies the products and brings its knowledge of them as well as the associated market, UniLaSalle carries out a number of analyses and links the project by involving the University of Ghent which pilots and hosts the tests on pork and the company Lilloise Genoscreen which carries out the analyses on the microbiota. During the previous semesters, the work of the various operators of the consortium has been to first define the physico-chemical characteristics of the components of the solution and this for the molecules taken individually and in mixture. At this stage this work must be completed for the mixture and in particular to define whether the properties of the mixture are not altered compared to the properties of the molecules alone. This characterisation work was coupled with a double assessment of the biological properties of the in vitro and in vivo solution. In vitro the work has so far consisted of defining and implementing study models, namely a model of coculture of cells reproducing intestinal conditions and a model to study the impact of the nutritional solution on the growth of bacterial strains representative of the microbiota. In vivo, the project consists of an evaluation of 2 species of productive animals: pork and chicken. The pig evaluations were carried out between October and December 2021. Molecular analyses from this trial are ongoing, while chicken trials are scheduled. Several enhancement actions have been put in place, either at the scientific level (participation in congresses) or at the level of the general public and professionals in the sector (participation in a trade show and communication via social networks). During the six months of January to June 2022, work continued on the various aspects of the project. Physico-chemical analyses showed that when the components of the nutritional solution are present together, the characteristics of individual molecules are preserved. There is therefore no degradation when the different components of the solution are assembled. Analysis of the properties of the nutritional solution continues in vitro and in vivo. In vitro the cell culture model is now in development and the next semester is expected to yield results on the cellular impact of the components of the solution. In vitro also analyses are underway to measure the impact of the solution and its components on the growth of certain bacteria representative of those present in the intestine. These results will be linked to in vivo animal results. After testing on pigs in the previous six months, analyses of the collected samples are ongoing by different project operators. Finally, a number of scientific papers or participations in congresses to highlight the project have been carried out or are planned for the next semester. The results of the project will also be highlighted thanks to communication tools such as the website which is now available (https://www.unilasalle.fr/projet-adagio) and which describes the project and allows to trace its news. Finally, meetings between project members and open to people outside the project are being prepared for the next semester.

L'association engagée entre les différents acteurs est suceptible d'être pérennisée en vertu de leur complémentarité, spécialement entre l'université de Gand et ALGOFIT. Le projet vise ainsi à répondre à une problématique d'agriculture durable et aux attentes des consommateurs tout en respectant le bien-être animal et en limitant les impacts environnementaux.

De samenwerking tussen de verschillende actoren kan mogelijk permanent worden vanwege hun complementaire karakter, in het bijzonder tussen de Universiteit Gent en ALGOFIT. Het project wil zo inspelen op de problematiek van duurzame landbouw en de verwachtingen van de consumenten, maar tegelijk ook het welzijn van de dieren respecteren en de milieu-impact beperken.

The cooperation nurtured between the various stakeholders is likely to gain a lasting foothold thanks to their complementarity, especially between the University of Ghent and ALGOFIT. The project thus aims to meet sustainable agricultural issues and consumer expectations while respecting animal welfare and limiting environmental impacts.

Deux sociétés pourront à l'issue de ce projet proposer une nouvelle gamme de produits en nutrition animale et sous forme de compléments alimentaires pour l'Homme. La collaboration dans le domaine de la recherche sur les aliments santé. Trois entreprises bénéficieront directement du soutien du programme. L'objectif est d'obtenir au moins une solution nutritionnelle pour chaque espèce animale pour renforcer l'offre de solutions alternatives à vocation santé auprès de la filière alimentation animale.

Na afloop van dit project kunnen twee ondernemingen een nieuw gamma van dierenvoerproducten en voedingssupplementen voor de mens voorstellen. Samenwerking in het onderzoek naar gezonde voedingsmiddelen. Het programma zal rechtstreekse steun verlenen aan drie ondernemingen. Het doel is voor elke diersoort minstens één voedingsoplossing te verkrijgen om het aanbod van alternatieve oplossingen voor gezonde voeding in de keten van dierenvoer te versterken.

At the end of this project, two companies will be able to offer a new range of animal nutrition products and in the form of food supplements for humans. Collaboration in the field of health food research. Three companies will benefit directly from the programme's support. The objective is to obtain at least one nutritional solution for each animal species to increase the number of alternative health solutions available to the animal feed sector.
