Description (NL): Door de zeer hoge verstedelijking (93%) wordt de grensstreek Frankrijk-Wallonië-Vlaanderen dagelijks onderworpen aan massale stromen van landbouwproducten, water en energie, afkomstig van conventionele landbouwsystemen (42 tot 67% van het grondgebied). Deze systemen genereren grote hoeveelheden CO2, afvalwater en ander afval. Om de overdracht en verspreiding van goede praktijken in de groene sector in het algemeen en meer bepaald in de landbouw te bevorderen, is het nodig de grensoverschrijdende onderzoeks- en innovatienetwerken te herstructureren en zo de voedselzekerheid te verhogen, milieu-, economische en sociale verbeteringen door te voeren en tegelijk de ontwikkeling van innovatieve oplossingen aan te moedigen. Acuaponics is een relevante oplossing voor de problemen van de grensstreek Frankrijk-Wallonië-Vlaanderen inzake waterbeheer en voedselzekerheid. Het is een techniek die zowel in de landelijke als stedelijke landbouw kan worden gebruikt en in één geïntegreerd systeem de teelt van planten en vis combineert, voor de duurzame productie van verse en gezonde vis en groenten. Het doel van het project SMART AQUAPONICS is de bevordering van de overdracht en inburgering van deze landbouwtechniek in het grensoverschrijdende economische weefsel. Het project beoogt de implementatie en demonstratie van een intelligent beheersysteem voor aquaponics, evenals de creatie van nieuwe producten die op de markt kunnen worden gebracht om de ontwikkeling in de grensstreek te bevorderen (beheersoftware, serious game), hetgeen gepaard moet gaan met organisatorische en sociale innovatie (nieuwe zakenmodellen, nieuwe gebruikstoepassingen) en de verspreiding van goede praktijken (opleidingsprogramma). De intersectorale samenwerking in het kader van dit project stimuleert de innovatie en het concurrentievermogen van de grensoverschrijdende ondernemingen, die partner zijn van dit project, en meer in het algemeen de actoren uit de professionele en stadslandbouw.

Ces systèmes génèrent de grandes quantités de CO2, d’eaux usées et autres déchets. Pour accroître le transfert et la diffusion des bonnes pratiques dans la filière verte en général et spécifiquement dans le domaine agricole, il est nécessaire de réaliser une structuration des réseaux transfrontaliers de Recherche & Innovation, permettant ainsi d’améliorer la sécurité alimentaire, d’apporter des bénéfices environnementaux, économiques et sociaux tout en encourageant l'élaboration de solutions innovantes. L’aquaponie est une solution pertinente pour répondre aux problématiques de la région transfrontalière France-Wallonie-Flandres en matière de gestion de l’eau et de sécurité alimentaire. Il s'agit d'une technique agricole rurale et urbaine qui associe dans un même système intégré la culture de végétaux et l’élevage de poisson pour la production durable, fraîche et saine de poissons et de légumes. L’objectif du projet SMART AQUAPONICS est de promouvoir le transfert et l’adoption de cette technique agricole dans le tissu économique transfrontalier. Le projet vise à encourager le développement et la démonstration d’un système de gestion intelligent des systèmes aquaponiques, la création de nouveaux produits à mettre sur le marché pour accompagner son déploiement dans la région transfrontalière (logiciel de gestion, serious game) tout en soutenant l’innovation organisationnelle et sociale (nouveaux modèles d’affaire, nouveaux usages) et la diffusion des bonnes pratiques (programme de formation). Read more Description (EN): Due to its very high rate of urbanisation, 93% of the France-Wallonia-Flanders cross-border region is subject to massive daily flows of agricultural products, water and energy from conventional agricultural production systems (42% to 67% of the territory). These systems generate large quantities of CO2, wastewater and other waste. To increase the transfer and dissemination of good practices in the green sector in general and specifically in the agricultural sector, it is necessary to structure cross-border Research & Innovation networks, thus improving food security, providing environmental, economic and social benefits while encouraging the development of innovative solutions. Aquaponics is a relevant solution to address the problems of the France-Wallonia-Flanders cross-border region in terms of water management and food security. It is a rural and urban agricultural technique that combines plant and fish farming in a single integrated system for the sustainable, fresh and healthy production of fish and vegetables. The SMART AQUAPONICS project sets out to promote the transfer and adoption of this agricultural technique in the cross-border economic fabric. The project aims to encourage the development and demonstration of an intelligent management system for aquaponic systems, the creation of new products to be marketed to support its deployment in the cross-border region (management software, serious game) while supporting organisational and social innovation (new business models, new uses) and the dissemination of good practices (training programme). Intersectoral collaboration within the project stimulates innovation and competitiveness of cross-border companies that are partner operators in the project, and more generally stakeholders in the field of professional and urban agriculture.
Read more Achievements (FR): Le projet Smart Aquaponics a pour objectif d'encourager le développement de l'aquaponie professionnelle par le biais d'une application (smart phone et PC) comprenant trois outils connectés : -Outil de formation en ligne -Outil d'aide à la conception -Outil de monitoring. L'outil de formation en ligne est composé d'un jeu éducatif (serious gaming) et de modules de cours théoriques. Le jeu permettra à l'utilisateur de manipuler des systèmes aquaponiques virtuels de complexité variable et d'expérimenter un riche éventail de situations. Le jeu intègrera à la fois les aspects pratiques et les notions de biologie nécessaires au design et à la conduite d'un système aquaponique. Les publics ciblés sont les niveaux d'enseignements secondaires techniques, supérieurs et universitaires et dans une certaine mesure les autodidactes et le milieu associatif. À terme, un réseau de formation pratique pourrait également être mis en place. L'outil d'aide à la conception des systèmes aquaponiques permet à l'utilisateur de composer des systèmes aquaponiques virtuels et de réaliser des simulations. Les simulations estimeront les rendements et la stabilité des systèmes et permettront donc d'affiner leurs conceptions. La simulation intègrera la conception complète des systèmes aquaponiques et également l'achat en ligne des différents composants. Cet outil se veut adaptable à un maximum de systèmes aquaponiques. L'outil de monitoring des systèmes aquaponiques pourra permettre à l'utilisateur de suivre l'état du système, mais aussi d'anticiper les problèmes potentiels. Ce monitoring se fera sur base de capteurs (sonde pH, température, NH4, niveau d'eau, ...) connectés et sera adapté aux systèmes artisanaux et petites structures commerciales. La particularité de ce système de monitoring est qu'il sera basé sur un modèle dynamique qui, en suivant l'évolution des paramètres, pourra anticiper les accidents. Lors des trois premières années du projet, les partenaires ont commencé à identifier et rassembler une communauté de personnes intéressées par les outils développés par Smart Aquaponics. En particulier, les objectifs de la communication sont de rassembler des beta testeurs de l'application et de potentiels utilisateurs pour l'application finale. Ceci a été réalisé grâce à l'organisation, à la participation à différents évènements, la réalisation d'un site internet (www.smart-aquaponics.com) et les réseaux sociaux Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/SmartAquaponics/), Twitter (https://twitter.com/SmartAquaponics) et LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/smart-aquaponics). Une stratégie de communication du projet a été mise en place. Les aspects de communications sont menés par Groupe One, Uliège, Vito et le Pôle Aquimer. Du point de vue technique, les partenaires ont sélectionné et installé des capteurs permettant de collecter des données sur les systèmes aquaponiques du PTI, Junia, PCG et Uliège. Ces capteurs permettront aux partenaires de collecter les données de l'application. L’operateur Howest a développé une chaine d'acquisition de donnée, c.-à-d. un ensemble d'outils permettant de transférer les données des capteurs au serveur de Smart Aquaponcics. L'élément central est un agrégateur de donnée, intégrant toutes les informations des capteurs avant de les envoyer sur le serveur. Cet agrégateur de donnée pourra se connecter à quatre systèmes différents faisant l'interface entre l'agrégateur de données et quatre types de capteurs/ordinateurs commerciaux : capteurs analogiques, capteurs numériques, ordinateurs de contrôle de serre à signal analogique (Hortimax ou Priva) et ordinateur de contrôle de serre à signal numérique (IKS et Campbell). Ainsi, Howest a finalisé la conception de l'agrégateur de données, l'interface avec les capteurs analogiques et l'ordinateur de contrôle de serre analogique. Ces systèmes sont ont été installés dans les systèmes aquaponiques des différents partenaires, à savoir le PTI, PCG, Uliege, Atelier de Bossimé et Junia. Howest travaille également à la création d’un module universel qui pourra être utilisé par des aquaponistes en dehors des partenaires du projet. Actuellement, Howest a suivi de près le fonctionnement des agrégateur et la connexion des installations aquaponiques des différents opérateurs afin d’acquérir ces données sur le serveur de Junia et de les transférer ensuite dans le back office de l’application. Les dernières optimisations pour l’ensemble du système d’acquisition de données devraient être finalisées pour tous les sysètmes des opérateurs mentionnés durant la 9ème période. Junia a investi dans un serveur et créé une base de données permettant d’accueillir les données des systèmes aquaponiques. Uliège a réalisé le modèle informatique simulant les systèmes aquaponiques. Ce modèle est actuellement implémenté sur les serveurs de Junia et accessible sur demande via une interface web. Vigo Universal, de son côté a initié le développement du back-office de l'application. Chez Vigo Universal, l’interface a continué à être développée afin de pouvoir faire la démonstration de l’application en temps réel et en ligne (notamment lors de l’Expo universelle de Dubaï). L’application peut maintenant montrer le monitoring d’au moins un système des opérateurs du projet. L’application est prête à accueillir les modules de cours au niveau de l’interface. L’application ne peut présenter au niveau du Front office des simulations. Par contre, moyennant accès au « back office », nous pouvons encoder tous les paramètres d’un système permettant d’effectuer une simulation. Différentes sessions de brainstorming ont été réalisées en vue de définir le contenu didactique et utilisation de l'application. En plus d'atteindre ces objectifs, ces sessions ont permis aux partenaires de développer une réelle vision commune autour du projet. Les équipes didactiques du PTI, Junia, Odisee et Uliège sont actuellement en train de rédiger le contenu didactique de l'application. Un document didactique dédié à l’hydroponie avait déjà été rédigé lors du précédent semestre. Aujourd’hui, les éléments de cours sont finalisés également pour les instrumentations mais pas encore pour la partie aquaculture.. Enfin, le nouveau site internet est maintenant opérationnel pour le grand public. Le projet a été mis en avant lors de différentes manifestations régionales, transrégionales et internationales (Expo universelle de Dubaï) et sur les réseaux sociaux et certains médias.
Read more Achievements (EN): The Smart Aquaponics project aims to encourage the development of professional aquaponics through an application (smart phone and PC) comprising three connected tools: —Online Training Tool -Design Help Tool -Monitoring Tool. The online training tool consists of an educational game (serious gaming) and theoretical course modules. The game will allow the user to manipulate virtual aquaponic systems of varying complexity and experience a rich range of situations. The game will incorporate both the practical aspects and the notions of biology necessary for the design and conduct of an aquaponic system. The target audiences are technical, higher and university secondary education levels and to some extent self-taught and associative communities. In the long run, a practical training network could also be set up. The aquaponic system design support tool allows the user to compose virtual aquaponic systems and perform simulations. The simulations will estimate the yields and stability of the systems and will therefore make it possible to refine their designs. The simulation will integrate the complete design of aquaponic systems and also the online purchase of the various components. This tool aims to be adaptable to a maximum of aquaponic systems. The aquaponic system monitoring tool will allow the user to monitor the state of the system, but also to anticipate potential problems. This monitoring will be based on sensors (pH wave, temperature, NH4, water level,...) connected and will be adapted to artisanal systems and small commercial structures. The peculiarity of this monitoring system is that it will be based on a dynamic model that, following the evolution of the parameters, will be able to anticipate accidents. During the first three years of the project, the partners began to identify and bring together a community of people interested in the tools developed by Smart Aquaponics. In particular, the objectives of the communication are to gather beta testers of the application and potential users for the final application. This was achieved through the organisation, participation in various events, the creation of a website (www.smart-aquaponics.com) and social networks Facebook (https://www.facebook.com/SmartAquaponics/), Twitter (https://www.linkedin.com/company/smart-aquaponics) and LinkedIn (https://www.linkedin.com/company/smart-aquaponics). A communication strategy for the project has been put in place. Communications aspects are led by Groupe One, Uliège, Vito and the Aquimer Pole. From a technical point of view, the partners selected and installed sensors to collect data on the aquaponic systems of the PTI, Junia, PCG and Uliège. These sensors will allow partners to collect application data. Howest Operator developed a data acquisition chain, i.e. a set of tools to transfer sensor data to the Smart Aquaponcics server. The central element is a data aggregator, integrating all sensor information before sending it to the server. This data aggregator will be able to connect to four different systems making the interface between the data aggregator and four types of sensors/commercial computers: analog sensors, digital sensors, analog signal greenhouse control computers (Hortimax or Priva) and digital signal greenhouse control computer (IKS and Campbell). Thus, Howest finalised the design of the data aggregator, the interface with analog sensors and the analog greenhouse control computer. These systems have been installed in the aquaponic systems of the various partners, namely the PTI, PCG, ULiege, Atelier de Bossimé and Junia. Howest is also working on the creation of a universal module that can be used by aquaponists outside the project partners. Currently, Howest has closely monitored the operation of the aggregator and the connection of the aquaponic installations of the various operators in order to acquire this data on the Junia server and then transfer it to the back office of the application. The latest optimisations for the entire data acquisition system should be finalised for all the systems of the operators mentioned during the 9th period. Junia invested in a server and created a database to host data from aquaponic systems. ULiège realised the computer model simulating aquaponic systems. This model is currently implemented on Junia’s servers and accessible on request via a web interface. Vigo Universal, for its part, initiated the development of the back office of the application. At Vigo Universal, the interface continued to be developed in order to demonstrate the application in real time and online (especially at the Dubai World Expo). The application can now show the monitoring of at least one system of project operators. The application is ready to accommodate course modules at the interface level. The application cannot present simulations at Front Office level. On the other hand, with access to the “back office”, we can encode all the parameters of a system to perform a simulation. Various brainstorming sessions were conducted to define the didactic content and use of the application. In addition to achieving these objectives, these sessions allowed the partners to develop a real common vision around the project. The teaching teams of the PTI, Junia, Odisee and Uliège are currently writing the didactic content of the application. A didactic document dedicated to hydroponics had already been written in the previous semester. Today, the course elements are also finalised for instruments but not yet for the aquaculture part. Finally, the new website is now operational for the general public. The project has been highlighted at various regional, trans-regional and international events (Universal Expo Dubai) and on social networks and certain media.

Expected Results (NL): De resultaten zullen worden bekendgemaakt en doorgegeven om de ontwikkeling en inburgering van aquaponicssystemen te promoten. Aan de ontwikkeling, demonstratie en verspreiding van de resultaten van het project zullen vier ondernemingen en vier onderzoeksinstellingen deelnemen. De opleidingssessies zullen de landbouwers en landbouwondernemers instrumenten verstrekken om de inburgering van deze systemen in de hand te werken.
