The Project is initiated by the Zlatograd Municipality, in partnership with the Xanthi Prefecture, Republic of Greece. Its main goal is to contribute to the development of road networks as a means for social and economic development of the cross-border region. Specific goals deal with ensuring access to currently developing key road networks on the national level, optimizing the movement of goods, services and people across the border, and creating an environment conducive to active business networking in the programme area.
Main activities include: Project management, construction and required supervision activities (following Bulgarian legislation), development of a joint strategy for traffic management and prevention of illegal traffic of goods and people, information and publicity, audit and reporting.
The Project complemented initiatives undertaken at the National level of both Member States. Well-developed infrastructure serves to activate flows of goods, services and people, promotes entrepreneurship, strengthens economic integration and cooperation in the border area, and is a key precondition for sustainable growth.
