Project - Information Technology based Nursing Education Network

Description

Description: ITENEDNET intends to set up a permanent training mechanism in Southern Albania in order to proactively counter and, in some cases, redress the employment inequalities that will be caused by the introduction of Information Technology (IT) in the medical services market. It will also establish a life-long education and skills enhancement programme, which will help nurses keep up with state-of-the-art developments in their field. ITENEDNET aspires to create a critical mass of skill that will promote the introduction of Medical Informatics in Albania. The ITENEDNET immediate impact, therefore, will be to create a critical mass of trained personnel that will facilitate the successful introduction of IT in the area hospitals and result in a quantum leap in the local provision of medical services. The ITENEDNET goals – in regards to nursing staff – are to: - Upgrade their hospital IT skills, - To preserve their employability, in the face of the changing nature of the nursing profession - To combat discrimination on the basis of gender and educational background - To introduce the necessary changes in hospital corporate culture so that the introduction of IT in the medical establishment occurs with the minimum possible disruption.
Expected Results: The immediate direct results and effects expected from ITENEDNET will be: (1) Advisory services for the planning and implementation of short term actions that will improve the IT and the nursing skills of hospital personnel (2) Introduction of life-long learning technologies and techniques into the routine operation of hospitals and health care organizations / authorities in South Albania and Epirus (3) Curricula for the upgrading of the IT skills as well as their nursing knowledge for nurses with substandard qualifications (e.g., self taught nurses, nurses with secondary education level vocational training, older nurses that are not close enough to retirement) (4) Setting up of an integrated, self contained hospital IT vocational training programme (5) Development and implementation of hospital IT skills retraining certification by the University "Fan S. Noli" (6) Provision of a modern set of 10 textbooks for training and re-training in nursing and (7) Provision of 10 computer based courses for training and re-training in nursing.
