Objectif général : L’étendue et l’influence de la culture normande persistent dans presque tous les domaines sociaux des deux côtés de la Manche, dans des secteurs aussi variés que l’architecture, la langue, le système judiciaire, l’habillement, la nourriture, les questions militaires etc. Le projet NORMAN CONNECTIONS vise à créer un réseau transfrontalier de professionnels travaillant sur des sites patrimoniaux normands de chaque côté de la Manche, afin d’échanger savoir-faire et meilleures pratiques concernant l’interprétation, le développement et l’archéologie de site, l’élargissement de la clientèle du tourisme, ainsi que les connaissances universitaires. Le projet propose de forger une nouvelle approche pour le développement et la recherche et la promotion du patrimoine commun. Ainsi, un circuit touristique de patrimoine normand couvrant les deux côtés de la Manche sera mis en place afin d'encourager les visiteurs à découvrir le patrimoine normand commun anglais et français. Principales actions : - Mise en valeur du monde normand grâce à des techniques innovatrices : mises en place de fouilles archéologiques ; organisation de visites virtuelles etc. - Coordination transfrontalière et échanges professionnels : création d’un réseau transfrontalier de sites anglo-normands : mise en place d’ « Eductours » et organisation d’un parcours touristique transfrontalier.

Main objective : The reach and influence of Norman culture lasts to this day in almost every area of society on both sides of the Channel, in areas as diverse as architecture, language, legal systems, dress and food as well as in military matters. The Norman Connections project intends to create a new cross-border network that will bring together professionals working on Norman Heritage sites on both sides of the Channel, in order to share experience and best practices relating to site interpretation, site development and archaeology, audience development & tourism, and academic understanding. The overall objective of the project is to forge a new approach to developing, researching and promoting our shared Norman heritage. In this respect, a Norman Heritage Tourism Trail which would span both sides of the Channel will be implemented in order to encourage visitors, French or English, to discover their common Norman heritage. Main actions : - Enhancement of the Norman world via innovative techniques: archaeological excavations, virtual tours etc. - Cross-border coordination and professional exchanges: creation of a cross-border network of Anglo-Norman sites: implementation of ‘Study Tours’ and organisation of a cross-border tourist tour.

Achievements (EN):

“The Epic Adventure” - a bilingual tourist tour set up as a result of NORMAN CONNECTIONS, which connects French and English Anglo- Norman heritage sites. The project enabled the re-interpretation of displays in the Anglo-Norman sites of Caen and Falaise (Calvados), Rochester (Kent), Colchester (Essex) and Norwich (Norfolk), as well as archaeological excavation and renovation work in castles.
