Objectif général : Le projet DIESE a pour but d’évaluer le risque de perturbation endocrinienne (modification des fonctions hormonales), l’immunotoxicité et la cancérogénicité dans les écosystèmes aquatiques continentaux et marins des régions éligibles afin d’assurer un développement durable de l’aquaculture et une bonne qualité des eaux. Le projet vise à générer des outils communs et des bases de données sur les effets des perturbations endocriniennes, de la modulation du système immunitaire et des mutagènes (changement du patrimoine génétique) chez les poissons et mollusques bivalves des eaux européennes. Ces recherches permettront de mieux comprendre l’impact sur la santé des modifications de ces espèces vivantes, incluant celles à valeur économique (bar, huitres et coquillages). Ceci devrait conduire à des recommandations, scientifiquement argumentées, à l’intention des utilisateurs finaux. Principales actions : - Identification des composés impactant les poissons et invertébrés aquatiques dans les effluents urbains et les eaux usées. - Expérimentations en laboratoire afin d’identifier les mécanismes impactant les populations concernées. - Expérimentations de terrain afin de cartographier les contaminations dans les régions éligibles et d’évaluer les risques environnementaux s’y afférant.

Description (EN):

Main objective : The DIESE project aims to assess the threat of endocrine disruption (ED), immunotoxicity and carcinogenicity in freshwater and marine ecosystems of the eligible regions in order to ensure a sustainable development of aquaculture and better water quality. The project aims at generating common tools and data bases on the effects of EDC, immune system modulation and carcinogens (modification in the gene pool) in both fish and molluscan shellfish from European waters. These researches will provide a better understanding of threats to the health of species of economic value (including sea bass, oysters and clams). This would lead to sound scientifically-based recommendations that will be of use for end-users. Main actions : - Identification of active compounds impacting fishes and aquatic invertebrates in sewage effluent and wastewaters - Laboratory experiments to identify mechanisms impacting certain species - Field experiment to create a map of contamination in eligible regions and to assess ensuing environmental risks

Principales réalisations et résultats : - 1 nouvelle méthode d’extraction des composés anti-androgènes dans les sédiments développée conjointement entre les chercheurs de TOXEM et des Universités du Havre et du Sussex + MBA - Etude réalisée sur les métabolites, protéomes et génomes. - Travaux scientifiques présentés à plusieurs congrès scientifique : PRIMO15 et ISTA14. - Intervention dans le cadre d’émissions télévisées : « Une rivière de médicaments » (Global Mag, Arte - juin 2009) ; « Estuaire de la seine, une pollution invisible » (Thalassa, France 3 - mai 2009), « Du poison dans l’eau du robinet » (France 3, mai 2010)

Main achievements : - Development of a method for the extraction of anti-androgenic (feminizing agent) compounds from sediments samples (jointly conducted by TOXEM researchers and universities of Le Havre and Sussex)+ MBA - Realization of analyses of metabolites, proteomes and genomes - Presentation of scientific works during several scientific conferences: PRIMO 15 and ISTA 14 - Participation to several TV shows: “Une rivière de médicaments” (Global Mag, Arte – June 2009); “Estuaire de la Seine, une pollution invisible” (Thalassa, France 3 – May 2009), “Du poisson dans l’eau du robinet” (France 3, May 2010)
