Objectif général : Espace maritime partagé par le Royaume-Uni et la France, la Manche est le lieu d'un trafic maritime intense avec un risque potentiel réel de pollution accidentelle. Les répercussions d'un tel accident maritime sont graves en raison des multiples usages du milieu marin, en particulier pour la pêche, l'aquaculture, les loisirs et le tourisme. Le projet CHRONEXPO a pour but de contribuer à la préservation de la qualité de l’environnement en Manche en regroupant des équipes de scientifiques complémentaires autour de l’étude des conséquences de l’exposition chronique des espèces marines aux polluants générés par l’homme. La moule, l'huître, l'ormeau et la seiche sont des modèles de mollusques choisis pour leur intérêt économique puisqu'ils sont pêchés ou élevés par l'homme. Les compétences des différents partenaires permettent d'analyser en parallèle les paramètres biologiques macroscopiques traduisant l'état de santé apparent des organismes (survie, développement, croissance, étude des tissus affectés) et des paramètres moléculaires susceptibles de traduire des dommages précoces et subtiles au niveau cellulaire (expression de gènes ciblés, dommages à l'ADN, activité d'enzymes spécifiques). Les polluants étudiés comprennent les métaux lourds, les radionucléides et les pesticides utilisés en culture maraîchère. Principales actions : - Mise en œuvre de la phase expérimentale pilote du projet et recrutement d’étudiants. - Acquisition des données expérimentales et organisation d’échanges entre des étudiants. - Obtention des diplômes de doctorat et communication des résultats vers la communauté scientifique.

Description (EN):

Main objective : The Channel, whose coastline is shared by the United-Kingdom and France, is extensively used by seaborne traffic, which poses a significant risk of accidental pollution. The consequences of such an accident are very serious, due to the multiple uses of this marine environment like fishing, aquaculture, leisure and tourism. The present project aims to contribute to preservation of the Channel environment by bringing together complementary scientific teams in order to evaluate the consequences of chronic exposure of marine species to human-generated pollutants. The mussel, the oyster, the abalone and the cuttlefish are molluscan biological models selected for their economical interest because they are fished or bred for human seafood. The complementary skills brought by the different partners make it possible to investigate in parallel macroscopic parameters, reflecting the apparent good health of organisms (survival, development, growth, histopathology) and molecular parameters, expected to reflect more subtle and earlier possible damages at the cellular level (targeted gene expression, DNA damage, activities of specific enzymes). The studied contaminants include trace metals, radionuclides and some organic compounds used in market gardening. Main actions : - Implementation of the pilot experiment phase and students hiring - Acquisition of experiment data and students exchanges - PhD graduation and dissemination of the results to the scientific community

Principales réalisations / résultats : - Mises en place de 6 protocoles de mesures des paramètres biologiques. - 5 étudiants en doctorat recrutés. - 5 expériences pilotes d’exposition à long-terme à un contaminant. - 1 formation organisée en histopathologie chez les bivalves pour les étudiants partenaires du projet au CEFAS de Weymouth. - 1 communiqué publié dans la revue « Repère », journal de communication interne IRSN.

Main achievements : - Implementation of 6 measurement protocols of biological markers - 5 Phd students recruited - 5 pilot experiments of long-term exposure to a contaminant - Organisation of a histopathology training session for the students partners of the project, in the CEFAS of Weymouth. - 1 press release in “Repère”, internal journal of the IRSN.
