Description (EN):

It is challenging to provide a low carbon energy supply in cities in a style of energy storages. Especially in historical urban centres it is very difficult to achieve these results, because interventions in this specific area meet strict architectural protection constraints, involve higher implementation costs and often come in conflict with town planning policies. Therefore, the main objective is to improve and enrich energy and spatial planning strategies targeting historical city centres by focusing on integration of energy storage systems to enhance the public institutional and utility capabilities. The pilot actions implemented in specific sites will demonstrate the various energy storages that can be adapted and transferred to other local or regional environments. The storages will provide good show-cases to the local authorities which can benefit in sense of improved energy efficiency and increase usage of renewable energy sources and lower costs for energy. The transnational strategy will provide the recommendations for improving the energy and spatial planning. The energy management tool will enable to monitor all features that proof the effectiveness of the pilot installations. Additionally, the autarky rate tool will indicate the economic and reasonable utilisation of storages. By establishing the stakeholder deployment desk Store4HUC will reach the relevant players to share the knowledge and also transfer it to other additional audience. It will enable to gain wider consensus of the pilot instalment and further tool usage, especially with the signed memorandums of the future tool utilisation. The project approach foresees also peer review actions, mutual learning within project consortium and exchange of experiences and knowledge with target groups what can enhance the transnational added value. Innovative energy storage installation and storing of renewable energy sources determines the innovative aspect of Store4HUC.

Achievements (EN):

Up to 80% of total energy consumption in the EU is in urban areas, most of which have historic urban centers. At the same time, energy storage, especially in these areas, is a rarity in Central Europe. This is mainly due to strict architectural protection requirements, higher implementation costs and frequent conflicts with urban planning policies. The STORE4HUC project aimed to improve territorial low-carbon energy planning strategies. It enriched policies that support climate mitigation in historic urban centers by developing policy recommendations for implementation and sharing lessons learned in our four pilot sites. There, we realized storage solutions in historic urban areas and experienced and overcame difficulties firsthand. We also developed energy management tools for various stakeholders to help them make decisions about investing in an energy storage solution. Together, we have developed policy recommendations and identified appropriate technological solutions to overcome barriers to low-carbon development in historic centers.

Expected Results (EN): R 2.2 Status of capacities of the public sector and related entities for territorially based low-carbon energy planning and policies achieved through transnational cooperation.

Expected Outputs (EN):

Store4HUC will produce transnational plan for implementation and capitalisation of the energy storage in HUC which will provide the recommendations and action to be further exploited or implemented. This document will improve the energy planning, the awareness on innovate energy technologies and measures for improving EE and increase usage of RES. Additionally, the energy management tool and autarky rate tool will enable to efficiently plan new measures, the city representatives will gain a new knowledge which can be exploited in the further actions. By involving them into the project consortium they will benefiting by achieved developed skills through exchange of experiences and mentoring between advanced and learning countries, increased knowledge and management competences to develop and implement sustainable energy storages measures. Project will implement actions to be integrated in political strategies (on regional and local level which are responsible for e.g spatial planning) and in work agenda. Additionally, the project enables policy, including human resources, development through mutual learning and internal trainings and municipalities’ directly project’s involvement thereby degree and extent of knowledge and expertise will be totally ensured. Four pilot actions will be implemented on 4 sites to act as a show practise for local, regional and transnational players. By piloting the evaluated and selected KPIs improvements will be enabled.
