Description (EN):

The project team attention will be on the Danube river as it passes Iron Gates Natural Park and Djerdap National Park, and two specific nature sites, Balta (Delta) Nera and Carska Bara Nature reserve. Project objectives are: 1. Evaluation of environmental current situation in cross border “sister” Danube banks nature reservation Djerdap (Serbia) and national parks Iron Gate (Romania). In this objective surface water quality will be evaluated on Danube and Danube tributaries from both countries. 2. Raising the awareness of young generations on both sides of the border on the immediate need to protect the region remarkable natural heritage and also raising the awareness of local society on the advantages of sustainable use of natural resources and environmental protection. 3. Development of state universities - University Politehnica Timisoara and Technical Faculty in Bor - infrastructure thru state-of-art analytical equipment for environmental analysis, to increase their research capabilities in order to assure their goals for the future: significant contribution to education of next generation of experts. The objective outputs are: - Scientific study on surface water quality in Djerdap/Iron gate protected area - Study on evaluation of surface water quality in two regional significant and unique sites, Carska-Bara special nature reserve and Delta (Balta) Nera nature reservation, the newest delta in Europe - Extensive Study on the influence of the copper mining activities in Majdanpek on Danube river.Intensive copper mining and processing in Majdanpek - State-of-art equipment acquisitions for University Politehnica Timisoara and Technical Faculty in Bor - Organization of 2 major Conferences for project results dissemination to experts, NGO’s and general public with a focus on the promoting the eco-sustainable development of cross-border area and protection of our natural heritage - Awareness campaigns and Information seminars in schools

Achievements (EN):

The most important challenge of the project was to raise the awareness of society on the need for natural heritage protection and conservation. The scientific state-of-the-art tools for surface water quality monitoring in cross-border areas were bought and they were put to good use by the future scientists through case studies and onsite measurements. DEGREE OF ACHIEVEMENT OF INDICATORS : Infrastructure, equipment built/ installed/ modernized in the field of cross border services for environmental protection. 100%. Participants to project initiatives and events for information and awareness rising. 142,70%. Studies in the field of environmental protection and emergency management. (technical and scientific studies, researches in the relevant fields). 100%. RESULTS ACHIEVED: 2 Equipment acquisitions performed. 100%. 2000 participants in awareness raising campaigns. 142,70%. 3 Studies on surface water quality in cross-border protected areas. 100%.

Expected Results (EN): PA2-RI 1 Awareness on the potential of environmental resources and the benefits of protection. Resident population informed on quality and quantity of environmental resources in the eligible area, and on the benefits of protection actions.

Expected Outputs (EN):

Project results: 1. Scientific study on surface water quality in Djerdap/Iron gate protected area. 2. Study on evaluation of surface water quality in two regional significant and unique sites, Carska-Bara special nature reserve and Delta (Balta) Nera nature reservation, the newest delta in Europe. 3. Extensive Study on the influence of the copper mining activities in Majdanpek on Danube river. 4. Awareness raising campaigns - conferences, events and trainings, the Project team intend to educate scientists, experts, students and children in on the importance of environmental protection, especially on the protection of our rich natural heritage, natural protect areas and Natura 2000 sites in conjunction with sustainable economic development. 5. Greening activities. The project results and expected outputs contribute directly to programme result indicators: PA2.OI1, PA2.OI2 and PA2OI3.
