The Danube region is still very fragmented and presents great disparities in prosperity, jobs opportunities and innovation capacities. DA-SPACE addresses these challenges by piloting a model of open innovation lab in which companies, PA, Universities and the civil society, can create fundaments for innovation together with young talents. The DA-SPACE labs promote a cross-disciplinary and transnational cooperation among different stakeholders able to generate new solutions and nurture the entrepreneurial skills of all the actors involved. The project will pilot 7 open innovation labs in 7 regions: here seekers (PA, Universities, companies, young talents) will define a challenge that will be addressed by solvers (young talents) on a transnational level. Through co-creation methods, young talents will develop new solutions and business ideas within the lab and they will furthermore benefit from an Entrepreneurship training. The exchange among these actors in the DA-SPACE labs will profit both side: - young talents will work on real business cases and will be able to test and prototype their ideas in a safe environment, acquiring entrepreneurial skills; - seekers (e.g.SMEs, PA etc) will test co-creation and open innovation methods and will benefit from the exchange with young innovators. Besides, their employees – involved as mentors in the lab - will improve their business competences responding to market requirements and developing skills for future job needs. The results from the pilots will serve to define a transnational strategy to boost innovation and entrepreneurship in the Danube that will be declined in regional actions plan. All knowledge acquired in DA-SPACE will be transferred to up to 4 further Danube regions through transferability workshops. The consortium will also define a sustainability strategy to finance the lab after the end of funding, taking into consideration public-private-partnership, sponsorship or national/European funds.

Achievements (EN):

What is innovation and co-creation? How do interdisciplinary teams develop innovative ideas? How will companies remain competitive in the future? How can policy makers support these topics? The DA-SPACE Open Innovation Labs are working on answers to these questions since 2017. Young talents are working together with regional companies to develop creative solutions for an innovative future. After a successful two year implementation of the Danube Transnational Programme Project DA-SPACE we want to share our journey and success stories with you. Seven Open Innovation Labs were launched in the Danube Region, offering companies an easy and uncomplicated way to test out Open Innovation and to get to know the bene fi ts. Expected Results (EN): Intensity of cooperation of key actors in the programme area in order to increase competences for business and social innovation (survey based composite indicator)

Expected Outputs (EN):

One of the main results of DA-SPACE will be the creation of an open innovation ecosystem around the labs on a regional and transnational level. Labs will in fact be the meeting point of stakeholders coming from different domains that will find here a suitable setting to co-create and innovate. In that respect, DA-SPACE clearly contributes to the intensity of cooperation of key actors in order to increase the competences for business and social innovation (result ind 1.2). The circle of classical innovator actors will be extended, creating connections among education institutions, companies, talents, business and public authorities that will be able to co-create in a cross-disciplinary setting. The private sector will be directly involved in the lab by sharing real business cases and by acting as mentor. This non-conventional learning environment will foster also the competences of employees making them adapting to market requirements. The cooperation among these actors will be promoted also within the entrepreneurship training offered to the participants of the lab. With this open innovation approach, DA-SPACE aims to contribute to growth of jobs and the reduction of brain drain. By creating a learning and socially innovation culture in local business, DA-SPACE aims to offer better perspective to high-educate people and to foster competence and skills of innovation, business and creativity not only in young people, but also in companies and in the entire local environment.
