Description (EN):

The target area of Gotse Delchev-Drama remained intact and pristine for many years due to restricted accessibility. However during the last years the situation changed radically. This has led to an increase of human activity resulting in the decline of many local animal species which are now endangered and must be protected. The preservation of the cross border animal population, especially of the protected species, is of prime importance for the environment in the area of Gotse Delchev – Drama. In addition the area boasts a substantial number of Natura 2000 areas; seven in Bulgaria

Expected Results (EN):

Within the project a network will be created. It will include 13 zones of the Natura 2000 - 7 in Bulgaria and 6 in Greece. Eight seminars will be held on both sides of the border with a total of 320 participants. An area will be guarded of 1371 square kilometers from the Bulgarian side (within the 4 municipalities - Gotse Delchev, Garmen Satovcha and Hadjidimovo) and 3,468 km2 of the Greek side within the area of Drama. Groups will be created to protect nature and raise awareness of the population in this territory through the issuance and distribution of promotional and informational materials and regular transmission in local media. At the same time the living conditions of wild animals will improve as they provide food and relaxation. Some of protected populations we can see below are :
