Dieses Projekt hilft Nordwesteuropa (NWE) SME’s Ocean Energy (OE) Technologie in Meeresumgebungen zu testen und zu beweisen, dass Energie wirtschaftlich aus dem Ocean erzeugt werden kann. Die Partners des Projektes, kommend aus den Randgebieten von Nordschottland, Westirland, Westfrankreich und West Holland, repräsentieren die Umfelder mit den höchsten Meeresenergie-Ressourcen in Europa. um die wirtschaftliche Entwicklung in diesen am Rande liegend, wirtschaftlich benachteiligten Gebieten zu stimulieren, die sich nicht auf die Vielfalt der Industrie in den traditionellen "Motor Regionen von NWE verlassen kann. Die Kosten für das vorkommerzielle Testen und Demonstration für OE ist hoch, und die Investoren zögern zu investieren, bis sich die Technologie im Meer bewährt hat. Das NWE-Gebiet besitzt die weltweit führende OE-Test-Infrastruktur. Bisher liegt der Focus der meisten EU-F&E für OE bei der Technologie allein, aber nicht beim Testen. Die von DP Ozean koordinierten Teststandorte werden damit längerfristige Prüfungen und Risikoabbau der Technologie fördern. DP Ozean ermöglicht mindestens 30 vorkommerzielle Demonstrationen der OE-Technologie, über 60 000 Betriebsstunden, Arbeit für mehr als 60 KMU und wird mehr als 60 Arbeitsplätze erhalten. Es werden €30M in OE Firmen investiert werden.FORESEA wird darüber hinaus auch die Expertise und Infrastruktur in NWE verbessern. Das Ergebnis ist eine NWE OE Roadmap, welche den regionalen Wirtschafts- und Entwicklungsbehörden zur Verfügung gestellt wird.

Ce projet aidera les PME de l’Europe du Nord-Ouest (ENO) à tester leurs technologies Energies Marines Renouvelables (EMR) dans des environnements maritimes réels à prouver que de la production EMR peut être compétitive. Situés dans les régions périphériques du nord de l’Ecosse, de l’ouest de l’Irlande, de la France et des Pays-Bas, les partenaires représentent les zones aux ressources océaniques les plus importantes d’Europe. Le développement d’une industrie EMR leader au niveau international représente une opportunité de développement économique dans ces régions moins bien dotées que les régions motrices de l’ENO. Assurer la sécurité énergétique et combattre le changement climatique sont aussi des enjeux majeurs pour l’Europe et les EMR représentent une ressource conséquente, renouvelable, et encore sous-exploitée à ce jour. Le coût d’un test pré-commercial dans les EMR est important et les investisseurs exigent que la technologie soit validée en mer à échelle 1. L’ENO possède les infrastructures de test les plus avancées au niveau international et ce projet mettra en relation des sites aux Pays-Bas (hydrolien), en Grande-Bretagne (hydrolien et houlomoteur), en France (houlomoteur et éolien flottant) et en Irlande (houlomoteur et éolien flottant), dans le but de créer un réseau qui placera l’ENO au cœur de cette industrie émergente. À ce jour, la R&D s’est concentrée sur la technologie et pas sur la démonstration. Les sites coordonnés dans le cadre de FORESEA soutiendront des tests qui permettront de réduire le risque. FORESEA aura pour résultats le test d’au moins 30 technologies impliquant plus de 60 PME, le développement de plus de 60 emplois, et contribuera à apporter plus de 30 millions d’euros d’investissement dans les PME. FORESEA permettra aussi l’amélioration de l’expertise et des infrastructures et la définition d’une feuille de route pour l’ENO qui sera mise en œuvre par les agences régionales de développement économique.

Description (EN):

This project will help North West Europe (NWE) SME’s test ocean energy (OE) technology in real sea environments and prove power can be economically generated from the ocean. Located in the peripheral regions of Northern Scotland, Western Ireland, Western France and Western Holland, the partners in this project represent the areas of highest ocean energy resource in Europe. The development of a world leading OE industry in these regions represents a fantastic opportunity to stimulate economic development in these more peripheral, economically disadvantaged areas that are not able to rely on the variety of industry found in the traditional motor regions of NWE. Combating climate change and securing energy supply are also major issues for Europe and OE represents a substantial and as yet largely untapped asset which will help reduce GHG emissions by bringing highly productive renewable technologies closer to market. The cost of pre-commercial testing and demonstration for OE is high and investors are reluctant to invest until the technology has been proven in the sea at scale. The NWE area possesses world leading OE testing infrastructure and this project will connect sites in the Netherlands (tidal), UK (tidal and wave), France (wave and floating wind) and Ireland (floating wind and wave) to create a network which will place NWE at the heart of this emerging industry. To date most EU R&D for OE has focused on technology, not testing. The FORESEA coordinated test sites will encourage longer term testing and technology de-risking. FORESEA will result in a minimum of 26 OE technology pre-commercial demonstrations, over 60,000hrs of operation, work with over 60 SME´s, sustaining 60+ jobs and helping to secure €30M investment into OE companies. FORESEA will also enhance the expertise and infrastructure in NWE and put in place a NWE OE Roadmap so ensure the long term impact of this project.

Achievements (EN):

The initiative benefited of over 6.5 M ERDF and provided free access to North-West Europe’s world-leading network of marine energy test centres via its voucher scheme. Since its launch, FORESEA has increased real-sea testing activity in the sector, with 30 technologies successfully deployed at NWE test centres with the project support. Amongst FORESEA’s set of demo projects is “Orbital’s SR2000” floating tidal turbine, which was deployed at EMEC in October 2016 and tested was until September 2018. During the testing period, SR2000 operated on site continuously and generated over 3 GWh of electricity, supplying on average 7% - with peaks of up to 25% - of the Orkney Islands’ (Scotland) total electricity demand. Also, the installation, maintenance and recovery operations were carried out with small vessels, verifying the economic potential of floating tidal energy at full commercial scale. “The success of Orbital Marine Power is evidence to the impact FORESEA has played on the sector. The SR1-2000 2MW floating tidal turbine proved to be one of the key players in harnessing tidal energy in recent years. Orbital Marine Power aims to continue to prove their concept with the Orbital O2 device currently in construction as they branch out to commercialisation”, Nicolas continues. The project efforts were widely recognised in 2019. FORESEA was among the runner-ups of the EU Sustainable Energy Innovation Award and was granted with the follow-up project “Demonstration Programme for Ocean Energy Pilot Farms and Supporting Technologies” (OceanDEMO).

Expected Outputs (EN):

According to the targets the different EU National Renewable Energy Action Plans, a combined tidal and wave energy capacity of 2250 MW was expected by 2020. However, by 2018 only about 40 MW of tidal and 26 MW of wave energy capacity will be deployed. The project need 45 months of implementation to allow three periods of 12 months to access testing and demonstration facilities. The deployment of OE low carbon technology is requiring important preparation work.
