L’industrie manufacturière est un pilier important pour l'Europe, car elle influe sur l'économie, le bien-être au travail et l'environnement. Elle consomme environ 30% de l'énergie totale produite, utilise des matières premières et est responsable d’émissions. Ainsi, l'adoption de pratiques écologiques dans le secteur manufacturier est une priorité importante de nombreuses régions. Même si l'Europe est un leader mondial dans la recherche sur le green manufacturing, sa capacité d'innovation devrait être fortement améliorée. La disponibilité d'un réseau européen d'usines pilotes accessibles aux PME pourrait contribuer à cet objectif. La configuration d’un tel réseau interconnecté d'usines pilotes nécessite l'identification de défis communs et la mobilisation de nombreuses ressources. Pour ces raisons, les régions doivent coopérer pour atteindre cet objectif dans le cadre de la spécialisation intelligente. Dans la "VANGUARD Initiative", une méthodologie, pour le montage de projets transnationaux d'usines pilotes, a été conçu, mais n'a pas été testé sur une base structurée et sur une grande échelle. Sur la base de cette expérience, GREENNOMED vise à tester et à transférer cette méthodologie dans les régions MED, compte tenu de leurs particularités ainsi que leur lien avec d'autres régions européennes, en particulier avec l'Allemagne. GREENNOMED abordera les clusters, les entreprises, les PME, les organismes de R&D, les autorités régionales publiques, ainsi que le grand public.

Description (EN):

Manufacturing is an important pillar for Europe, since it impacts significantly on economy, occupation welfare and environment. It consumes about the 30% of the total energy produced, uses as input critical raw materials and is responsible for environmental emissions. Thus, the adoption of green practices in manufacturing is a top-priority of several European Regions. However, even if Europe is a global leader in green manufacturing research, its innovation capacity should be strongly improved. The availability of a European network of pilot plants accessible to SMEs could significantly contribute to this goal. The setup such an interconnected network of pilot plants requires the identification of common challenges and the mobilization of considerable resources. For these reasons, Regions should cooperate to reach this goal under the paradigm of smart specialization. In the “VANGUARD Initiative”, a Clusters-governed methodology for the setup of trans-national projects of pilot plants was conceived, but was not tested on a structured basis and on a large scale. Based on this experience, GREENOMED aims at testing and transferring this methodology in the MED Regions, considering their peculiarities and also their link with other relevant EU manufacturing Regions, in particular with Germany. GREENOMED will address business support organizations (Clusters), enterprises, SMEs, research and innovation organizations , Public Regional Authorities, as well as the general public. Information added on 2020-05-27, regarding the mitigation of the effects of COVID-19 (the coronavirus pandemic that started in 2019) (English language only): GREENOMED has implemented measures to support supply chains for green recovery, contributing to the provision of solutions for a green relaunch after the COVID crisis.

Achievements (EN):

Testing activities proceeded as planned during the 5th RP and specific efforts were dedicated to internationalisation of created WGs in different regions and creation of inter-regional links among the stakeholders to promote potential synergies and opportunities of inter-regional collaboration. The main steps to achieve this goal were taken through organisation of testing seminar, 2nd conference, 2 inter-regional living lab events (in Lyon and Barcelona) and several trans-regional dissemination activities. Testing seminar was organised in Jan 2019 in Lyon attended by 27 participants including external clusters and GREENOMED living labs. The methodology and mid-term results were presented and discussed. In addition the first step for transfer activity was taken by presentation of transfer methodology to external clusters and collecting their insights and feedback. 2nd conference was held in Apr 2019 in Barcelona attended by 65 participants including companies, clusters and RTOs. Regional stakeholders were engaged by partners and worked together in 5 parallel working sessions on the topics emerged during the testing activities. Living lab activities were progressed in synergy with testing activities and 4 regional living lab events (by TPLJ, CCE, ACMM and iBEC) and 2 inter-regional events (by Plastipolis and EURECAT) were organised.The testing evaluation was done by sharing 2 surveys: one to testing partners and the other to members of WGs.The First draft of GREENOMED handbook was developed by contribution of all partners.Transfer activities were accelerated by taking a first implementation step in Lyon testing seminar engaging external clusters. Three transfer training sessions were organised in Jan, Apr and Jun. Planning for transfer events took place and the first transfer to clusters was held in June in Milan co-organised by CNR, AFIL and ACMM. Dissemination activities went on(41 activities) with a significant focus at inter-regional and European levels ( and GREENOMED took part to Programme MED and SYNGGIlevels (51%). GREENOMED attended the GG event in Mar 2019 in Thessaloniki and 2 webinars of Programme MED. Moreover GREENOMED actively contributed in development of Green Growth book, white paper and policy paper.The organisation activities for the final GREENOMED conference were initiated by CNR. The conference is supposed to take place in Dec 2019 in Milano.
